Capturing Phelps Capturing Gold
Michael Phelps was going for his first gold medal of 2008 in the 400-meter individual medley, and photographers from around the world were on hand to capture it. He did in world-record fashion.
I shot this from photo position No. 2 in the swimming venue. The process of getting there has many layers. Here's how it works:
First, you need a credential (duh!), and then you have to sign up for a special ticket. Once you have the ticket, you have to stand in line to get a ticket for a position. Then, you can go get in another line for a seat. Whew, I'm tired already.
President Bush and his crew, including Henry Kissinger (bottom left), showed up at the event. Bush cheered and waved and looked like he was having a really good time.
