U.S. Sets World Record in 4x100

Well, it's just the prelims, and Michael Phelps didn't swim, but the American team set a world record in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay just now.

That squad: Matt Grevers, Nathan Adrian, Cullen Jones and Ben Wildman-Tobriner. They touched in 3 minutes, 12.23 seconds -- ahead of the mark of 3:12.46 the United States team set in August 2006 in Victoria, B.C.

All this came just moments after Bob Bowman, Phelps's coach, called France the favorite in the race. Phelps is expected to be included in the final of the event Monday morning here (Sunday night in the United States), when France and Australia will provide the stiffest competition.

When there are different swimmers in prelims and finals, do all the swimmers including the prelim swimmers get a gold if they win or only the 4 that swim in finals?

Yes, the prelim swimmers also get medels.
