Fake Footprint?
This story from The Daily Telegraph of London reveals that Chinese organizers faked some of the "fireworks" during Opening Ceremonies.

NBC made this clear as the Opening Ceremonies aired in the US. They called it a cinematic effect that matched the cinematic nature of the actual ceremony. :)
