Field Hockey Team Gets a Tie
The U.S. women's field hockey team returned to Olympic competition after a 12-year absence and earned a 2-2 draw against Argentina, the world's No. 2-ranked team, at the Beijing Olympic Green Field Hockey Stadium. At the 2007 Pan American Games, Argentina defeated the U.S., 4-2, in the finals.
The U.S. team fell behind, 2-0, just 10 minutes 46 seconds into the game.
Keli Smith (University of Maryland grad) scored a goal midway through the first half, and Angela Loy (Virginia Beach/ODU) scored the tying goal late in the second half.
The U.S. women now face Japan on Tuesday.
