Heptathlete Tests Positive; Could Mean U.S. Silver

The heptathlon silver medal winner tested positive for the steroid methyltestosterone last Saturday, the world track and field federation (IAAF) confirmed Wednesday, which means American Hyleas Fountain could see her Olympic bronze medal upgraded to a silver.

Lyudmila Blonska, who previously was banned two years for a steroid positive test, will be banned for life if the B sample of her urine confirms the A, IAAF spokesman Nick Davies said. The testing of the B, Davies said, would be done by Thursday.
Blonska, the reigning world championship silver medal winner, finished here with 6700 points, just ahead of Fountain, who scored 6619. She had previously been banned from June 8 2003 to June 8 2005.
