Rogers and Dalhausser: Golden at the Beach

Phil Dalhausser dominated the third and decisive set in the beach volleyball gold medal match, and he and Todd Rogers, his American partner, fell to the sand in a large hug when they completed a 23-21, 17-21, 15-4 victory over the Brazilian team of Marcio Araujo and Fabio Magalhaes.

Rogers and Dalhausser are each in their first Olympics. They ran to the stands to hug their wives almost immediately after congratulating each other.

Beach volleyball is a sport?????

Yes, beach volleyball is a sport, and legitimately so! Watch a match and I think you would find it hard to disagree. Imagine the speed and control of hands and arms necessary to keep the ball in the air, get it over the net in no more than three contacts (no two consecutive from the same side of the court) and prevent it from dropping to the ground, all with just TWO players over such a vast space. It is amazing to see the serves, kills, blocks and other maneuvers this game involves. A sport?? YES!!

Beach Volleyball is more of a sport than Field hockey!

sand is also considerably harder to play in (running, jumping, etc in sand is much harder than on a regular court), so their ability to do what they do is amazing!
