(Update) Rowing: Quad Sculls to Finals

The U.S. men's quad scull -- including Sam Stitt of McLean and Jamie Schroeder, who trains at the Potomac Boat Club -- advanced to the final Friday at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park.

The crew, which also includes Matt Hughes and Scott Gault, will race for the gold medal Sunday afternoon.

Three U.S. crews raced in B finals today, which determine overall places 7-12.

In the B final originally scheduled for Thursday, the men's four of Brett Newlin, Giuseppe Lanzone (Annandale), Paul Teti and David Banks (Potomac) finished third for a ninth-place finish overall.

New Zealand won the race with a time of 6:06.30, with the Netherlands finishing second in a 6:06.37 and the U.S. coming home in a 6:07.17.
