Table Tennis: Gao Advances

Gao Jun and her teammates are two wins from the bronze medal in table tennis after a 3-1 defeat of Romania this morning at the Peking University Gymnasium.

The Americans found themselves in an early hole when Elizabeta Samara defeated Chen Wang, 3-1, but came back to reel of three straight wins to pick up the victory. Gao, of Gaithersburg, defeated Daniela Dodean, 3-0, then combined with Crystal Huang for a 3-1 doubles win over Samara and Iulia Necula. Wang then came back and beat Necula in another singles match 3-0 to close out the victory.

The U.S. women will return to action Saturday morning at 10 a.m., playing the loser of the match between Korea and Singapore scheduled for this afternoon.
