(Update) Table Tennis: Gao, Chen to 4th Round

Gao Jun of Gaithersburg defeated Sayaka Hirano of Japan, 4-1, to advance to the fourth round of the women's singles table tennis tournament Wednesday evening at the Peking University Gymnasium.

Gao will play Wu Xue of the Dominican Republic Thursday morning.

The other American advancing to the fourth round, Chen Wang will face Kim Kyung Ah of Korea. Chen defeated Krisztina Toth of Hungary, 4-1, in the third round.

In team competition, Gao took the U.S. women's squad within one match of the bronze medal game, the best performance by the United States in the sport.
