(Updated) Tennis: Gold for Williams Sisters
Sisters Venus and Serena Williams defeated Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual, 6-2, 6-0, to win their second gold medal in women's doubles play at the Olympic Green Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. The pair also won gold at 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
Taking advantage of 17 double-faults by fellow Russian Dinara Safina, Elena Dementieva won the singles gold medal, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Some people are still drinking Hateraid from 55 gallon drums when it concerns the Williams sisters.
"We were really focused from the first point. We really wanted to win," said Serena, whose trophy cabinet includes 30 singles titles, eight of them Grand Slams. "We feel like we've contributed to our country in a huge way. That's really what it's all about."
Since CGG is complaining about lack of patriotic attire, where's your complaint about the pink leotard that Nastia Liukin wore during the all-around event?
Or does that ludicrous perception of 'lack of patriotism' based on apparel colors only apply to gold medal winning African-Americans?

Lack of patriotism because they did not have USA emblazoned on their clothing. Hummmm. Trust me whem I tell you that EVERYONE who was at the games (and those that were not) know who these beautiful young ladies represent.....THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Please examine yourself and look past the part where these extraordinary athletes are African American. Perhaps you should concentrate on their winning the GOLD.

cgg: get a life!!!! Obviously you're just looking for something to be bigoted about. Get over yourself and your idiot ways.

Umm... FYI, Nastia, the female US gymnast who won gold was wear a HOT PINK outfit with absolutely no "USA" to be found on it. Get your facts straight before you criticize the Williams sisters for wearing red, white and blue. Go USA!

I am a British and know that the Williams Sisters are proud americans who often mention "Home" in their interviews over here. Why are you americans so backward and full of hatred toward each other?

If they took the internet out of public libraries we would see less comments like tose posted by cgg.

British, it's because this country has not only never apologized to African-Americans for the involuntary boat ride, the 246 years of free labor that built this country and the bank accounts of white Americans, it sowed the seeds of negativity toward African Americans that are still prevalent even 143 years after emancipation. It poisons race relations here because many white Americans don't want to be reminded of that fact and African-Americans get pissed because we need the closure of talking about it in order to heal from it.
The negativity gets worse every time a Republican administration takes office.

I have always found the Williams sisters
extremely well spoken and proud of their country, which they represent well. I am proud to have them represent the USA.

Congratulations to the Williams sisters for their great doubles win,
They say that "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."
I think that questioning the patriotism of these athletes is the last resort of a mindless bigot,
by the way, I'm white.

I have always admired the Williams sisters, and have always rooted for them when they played. I feel that all Americans can be proud to be represented by those two ladies. I can think of no one who has represented their profession with more grace and professionalism than they do.

I traded for a ticket to see the Williams play together live for the first time ever ...
WOW !!
Seeing them play live is so much more impressive than watching on TV.
The Chinese (athletes) sitting around me greatly admired the Williams play and asked if I knew the Williams since I was from the States .. I had to say I was not so fortunate. The Chinese said I should be very proud to have athletes like the Williams playing for the States.

After reading these comments, I would hate to see the heart of those that had to post a negative comment. If you can't say anything nice, why say anything at all.

to cgg- I'm sure your Olympic medals, Athletic apparel with the USA logos, and the pictures of you wrapped in the American flag are on on display for all to see. Venus and Serena, Olympics 2008 tennis winners, are probably a little too busy to indulge your obvios jealousy.

I appreciate that most of the athletes show pride in the countries they represent by displaying the country names and flags on their uniforms. The women's doubles team from Spain had their country's name across the backs of their shirts. The colors of Nadal’s court apparel were not only those of his country's flag, but sported the flag on the front. The USA swimmers, gymnasts, track stars - we know they represent this nation, and can spot them in water, on the gym mats, down the track. The Williams sisters - the, "It's all about ME sisters"? No "USA", no flag, on their clothing. Okay, the articles were white, red, and blue. So are France's. These young women would do well to remember who they represent, who sponsored them, who supports them. Go USA. Thank you, Olympics.
