At least our (real) #1 rated women's beach volleyball team doesn't have to put up with subjective judging and then when there is a tie then they start eliminating the highest scores regardless whether judge a for girl#1 and judge d for girl #2.

BlueSky,
The loss on the womens gymnastic hurts a bit because it
is at the end of the day caused by subjective scoring,
but that has always been a problem in the subjective
events.
In the Clock events, it's all driven by the clock, a light beam
or a sensor measures the start, the clock and the camera
measure the end.
Now Cavic versus Phelps had to sting for the Serbs because
Cavic was ahead up until the very end, when Phelps
poured it on, but the underwater cameras showed
phelps winning by a hand span.
The clock ruled it all.
Now in the Judged events, it always hurts on a tight loss
because there is a measure of artistic opinion in there.
This is aways a problem in figure skating, when french
judges would down check americans, and in gymnastics
where chinese judges would downcheck russians.
I think the rules are the rules, and an exotic tie breaker it
may have been, but ultimately no different then having
a coin flip or a card draw or a mandatory rerun
to get to some decision.
I'm very proud of all of our athletes, without regard to
how they placed. To even qualify for the olympics
makes you one of the top 500 athletes in the world
at that time, and that's no small feat.
In the olympics small little changes result in big impacts
on the Gold, so, winning anything is still an amazing feat.
Besides, i love the women's beach volleyball, without
any prejudice to any team. I wish ESPN had that
as a dedicated channel. The Athleticism, the sun,
the sand, the sheer passion of play. oh yeah, the athletes too.
