2012 Trials Qualifying Begins -- Really
Dan Browne, an Olympian in 2004, leads a field of 20 men with personal bests of 2 minutes 20 seconds or faster in the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon this Sunday.
A field of 50 men are expected to compete in the race. Even though the Beijing Games ended less than two months ago, the race is the first opportunity to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Trials. Those who best the trials qualifying time of 2:19 will get a $2,000 bonus.
Among those joining Browne -- who won this race in 2002 -- on Sunday will be
Fernando Cabada, the U.S. record holder at 25k who has a personal best of 2:12:27 and sub-2:15 runners Justin Young, Matt Downin and Simon Sawe.
Kara Goucher, a 2008 Olympian, will be among those competing in the USA Women's 10 Mile Championships earlier in the day.
The USA Men's Marathon Championship is the final event of the season on the USA Running Circuit (USARC).
