Crews Wins Pan Am Gold
Boxer Franchon Crews of Capitol Heights, Md., won her second Pan American Championships gold medal Tuesday night, defeating Andreia Bandeira of Brazil, 11-4, in the light middleweight division.
Crews is from Baltimore but moved to Capitol Heights to train with Gary Russell Sr., father of Olympic fighter Gary Russell Jr. She had previously won Pan Am gold in the middleweight class; this is her first international title in her new division.
Three other U.S. fighters won gold in the competition at Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: light flyweight Marlen Esparza of Houston, light bantamweight Sacred Downing of Trenton, N.J., and bantamweight Cynthia Moreno of Phoenix.
