Local Skater Fourth at Cup of China
Ashley Wagner, 17, of Alexandria was in fourth place after the women's short program Thursday at the Cup of China in Beijing.
Kim Yu-na of South Korea led Japan's Miki Ando, with Laura Lepisto of Finland in third. Wagner (West Potomac High School) has some ground to make up to get on the podium; Lepisto has 58.60 points to Wagner's 55.40.
American Katrina Hacker is in fifth.
U.S. ice dancers Tanith Belbin and Benjmain Agosto were second after compulsories -- the Viennese Waltz -- behind European champions Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin of Russia.
China's Zhang Dan and Zhang Hao dominated the pairs short program with 67.12 points.
The men's short program, pairs free skating and the original dance is Friday. It's the third of six events in the International Skating Union's Grand Prix series.
