Sue Lowden now running TV ad claiming (wrongly) that chickens-for-checkups was "out of context"

Wow. If it's Friday afternoon, it's time for the latest installment in chickens-for-checkups. And this is one of the best yet.

Over a month after this controversy first cracked its way out of the shell and into national consciousness, Sue Lowden has now been forced to go up on the air with a TV ad trying to put it behind her.

But in the spot, she claims her initial remark was taken out of context, which it wasn't, ensuring that this story will keep going:

Lowden says that Harry Reid and her GOP primary opponent are attacking her because they are afraid.

"They want to make this about chickens and checks, a check I wrote decades ago, and a statement they've taken out of context," Lowden said. "That's what's wrong with Washington -- lies and dirty tricks."

Now, at first glance I thought that her use of the phrase "chickens and checks" suggested she couldn't even get "chickens and checkups" right. But it turns out that's a reference to her GOP primary opponent's claim that she wrote checks to Reid's campaigns at some points.

Be that as it may, Lowden's original chickens-for-checkups statements were not taken out of context. In her original quote, Lowden said that "bartering is really good" to "get prices down in a hurry," and even urged people to "go ahead and barter with your doctor."

Lowden subsequently doubled down, saying that in the old days, people traded chickens for health care, adding: "I'm not backing off of that system."

Nope, this chicken is going to keep on clucking.

Reid should send over a truckload of shovels to her campaign HQ. No matter how deep the hole, they'll keep digging.

Silver lining: if the Senate is going to suck, it might as well be fun to watch.

Lowden is a moron. If she - or anyone else on her staff - had any brains, she would keep her mouth shut. As it is, just when people are moving on from this story, she reminds everyone how stupid she really is.

Someone should really check to see if Lowden might possibly have a gaping head wound that has gone unattended. It would certainly explain many things.

Hilarious. It's nice to know that her entire platform consists of not chickens and checks and not a single issue of substance but simply two words: "small government." I can't wait for the debate, if there is one. I hope Harry doesn't go too soft on her, she is ridiculous and obviously doesn't understand the issues enough to support or dispute them.

Lowden defends comments:

The most amusing part of this is that Reid proved he is King of Bartering; what about the Louisiana Purchase which precluded to the health care legislation?

Reid, Pelosso, Obama are all out of touch! People who still think they are doing good for our country have to be hypnotized by the smooth talk and part of a Cult. Soft of Terror, Soft on Iran, Ill-informed with regard to Israel; Spending us into Oblivion, making judgements without evidence (the police and Obama's friend), Arizona's constitutional law, etc..; bringing us toward Socialism and our kids to poverty.. and these cult members still believe in him????

She was in trouble when she made the comment - a mistake that she'd take a hit on. Then she doubled down on it - a mistake that made her look really dumb. Then she tripled down on it - a mistake that made her a national punchline. Then she totally bungled the walkback - a mistake that makes her look like a totally inept politician.

Yeah. She's done. The local coverage has been raining down, and she's not going anywhere. Any posts about her at this point are just comic relief between ACTUAL news/political posts.

I think PROPT needs to get back to REHAB.

Gasman, have you ever had to run a huge business? For you to call her stupid or dumb is truly the pot calling the kettle black. The only way you cannot understand what Sue meant in context is if you are trying to find something wrong with her. You can dig and dig and dig and pull up any kind of crap you can find to use as you want to use. This Woman Is Brilliant and it's great that she exposes how Reid and his Obama-cult members try to find anything to find against someone and this PROVES that when they have no argument of substance they jump to something like this, "Chickens & Checks."

I don't think your I.Q. can even come close to her & what she has achieved in her life! I can't imagine anyone voting to drain out economy and duplicate what Greece has done. The people are also PISSED because their retirement age is increased a couple of years to about 53 years of age or so... This is what entitlements do to people, they make them dependent & expecting hand-outs rather than encourage success. Everyone wants to be a spoiled brat instead of work for their money!

..sorry for typo's...

First, she did write multiple checks multiple times to Harry Reid's campaign in the 80's. (Reid had a lot of sway over gaming licenses in Nevada at the time and she was looking to get one - proving she is not exactly on high moral ground to begin with).

Second, the boiler plate line of "I'm for small government" is BS. Her campaign manager went on TV last week and said that health care doesn't need to be fixed because everyone already can get care at the emergency room. Specifically saying that if he had a bullet hole in his chest he could go down to UMC (the one public hospital in Las Vegas) and get care. A PUBLIC hospital ER room. That is their solution.

She has no substantive idea for health care, or any other topic for that matter. Her entire campaign (as so many Republican campaigns are these days) is to just repeat "small government, no taxes" and hope people fall for it.

Here is the video of her campaign manager being an even bigger idiot:

PROPTREHAB a new troll emerges from the primordial muck...

Obama the socialist is the first clue.

We should be so lucky.

Wow...Sestak pulled even with Specter in a Muhlenberg tracking poll.

It's jumped around a little over the last few days, but it always had Specter ahead by a 4-9 margin. To list as even means something changed.

Maybe that new ad by Sestak is working? We'll see in a few days, to be sure. In the mean time...let's wait to see what Specter does. If we see some sort of reaction from him, then it means he's worried. If nothing, then they think this is an outlier.

PROPTREHAB I am ready for you to volunteer to give up your SS and medicare if you think entitlements are so evil....maybe you can work had enough to pay for medical care in your golden years...If we want to get rid of entitlements, lets start with farm subsidies and no bid military contracts.

After her intellectual tour de force that Lowden has put on over the course of the last month, if you are actually claiming that Lowden is NOT a moron, then you ARE a moron.

Lowden has proven that she is a feckless buffoon whose entire campaign staff consists of other feckless buffoons.

If she can't run a campaign any more competently than this, why should anybody believe that she could be an effective U. S. Senator?

She has stepped on that "chicken for checkups" rake, what, like a dozen times now?

Please cite anything that she has done as a candidate that did not exemplify her idiocy.

Posted by: Gasman1 | May 7, 2010 6:49 PM | Report abuse

Those of you defending Ms. Lowden because she has "run a business," her husband ran the casinos and she was on the board of a bank. One of her businesses laid off 200 workers while she took home a $200,000 bonus, inspiring her to say she had nothing to do with the layoffs. Well, either you run the business or you don't. For Chicken Sue, running the business is what she does when she needs to claim she has a talent for anything other than saying stupid things.

Anyone catch when she said they are "talking about A CHECK I wrote many years ago? In actuality she and her husband wrote 13 checks totaling $13,000 over 14 years to Reid.

Also, she talks about how Reid and Tarkanian are making this all about chickens. Maybe if she backed down on the SEVERAL opportunities she had this wouldn't have been such a big deal.

Vote Tarkanian

"Lowden says that Harry Reid and her GOP primary opponent are attacking her because they are afraid."

Afraid? She is the one that is afraid of Tarkanian. That is why her #1 fan and mouth piece - Chuck Muth - has developed an entire website to try and destroy Tarkanian. If Lowden wins the primary God help Nevada.

For all you folks that don't live in the Silver State, let me tell you what this all means: First, Lowden is a snob and is extremely weak in the rural areas of the state. Next, the Ron Paul crowd hates her guts and they are about 20% of Republican Primary voters here. About 75% of them like Sharron Angle. So, this means that Danny Tarkanian or Sharron Angle will be the Republican nominee against Harry Reid and Sue Lowden is toast!

My money (and vote) will be on Sharron Angle as she has won every Republican straw poll vote against the other two in all parts of the state (North & South). Angle recently won "The Great Debate at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas.

Lowden's "Chickens for Checkups" remarks are chickenfeed compared to her record as a "businesswoman" and her failure as the Republican Party State Chairwoman. Lowden and her family run a public casino company, Archon Corp. Check out the SEC reports and you'll see a very checkered record of imbroglios with their outside shareholders.

Finally, it's apparent that Sue Lowden is cognitively challenged when it comes to debating the issues. She has the same answer no matter what question she gets. On the other hand, Sharron Angle, the winner of the Tea Party Express endorsement (and money) knows the issues and can beat Harry Reid so that's where the smart money should be placed.

Sue Lowden thinks people are stupid.

First, for thinking they'd go for her "chickens for checkups" idea.

Second, for thinking she can lie about having proposed a "chickens for checkups" idea.

Someone should tell her about this new invention: Video.
