Sharron Angle still taking cash raised by ostracized Tea Party leader?

As you know, the Tea Party Express is under fire because its leader, Mark Williams, recently posted a satirical letter from "the Colored People" to President Lincoln praising slavery. The ensuing controversy got the group expelled from the Tea Party Federation, and the group continues to get pummeled by critics on all sides.

But there's one person who still has not disowned the Tea Party Express: Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle.

And she may even be taking their fundraising dollars, too: I can't get the Angle campaign to tell me whether they will continue taking money that the Tea Party Express is raising for her effort to topple Harry Reid.

To be fair, the Angle campaign did condemn the Tea Party Express leader's remarks -- sort of. After the story broke, the Angle campaign sent me and other reporters a statement claiming that she "denounces" such "inflammatory language."

But her statement also made it clear that she isn't disavowing the group at all. It said the statement of "one person" should not "represent the attitude of the hundreds of thousands of citizens" who make up the Tea Party movement.

What's more, the Tea Party Express continues to prominently raise money for Angle on the front page of its Web site. And the campaign won't tell me whether she'll refrain from taking money raised for her by this group. I asked a campaign spokesperson several days ago whether she would, and I still haven't received a reply.

The Tea Party Express was instrumental in enabling Angle's rise from obscurity during the Nevada GOP primary. And one Tea Party group is calling on candidates like Angle to completely disavow the support the Tea Party Express.

So it's fair to ask whether Angle is really going to continue to accept campaign funds raised by the group in the wake of the "satirical" Lincoln letter. If I ever get an answer, I'll update you.

This is part of the Sharon Angle psychosis.

She will do anything and say anything for money to run her campaign of lies and distortions. It doesn't matter if it is from a racist teabagger. It doesn't matter if she uses the media exclusively as a fundraising tool. It doesn't even matter if we all know that these are her tactics.

Check out this astounding revelation @cnn which dovetails nicely with this piece, Greg:

Angle: "The whole point of an interview is to use it like they say, 'earned media,' to earn something with it."

The candidate went on to explain how mainstream media interviews won't pay off for her campaign politically – or financially.

"Well I say I need a million people with $25 dollars and so that's really been the focus of using all that earned media to earn that $25 that we need to go really and be competitive in this race and so that's what we've been doing so we're not hiding,' she said.

Later, Angle asked this about "mainstream media" outlets: "Well, in that audience will they let me say I need $25 dollars from a million people go to Sharron Angle.com send money?"

[...]

Speaking with CNN after his Angle sit-down, Ralston criticized Angle's approach to the media. [...]

...you rarely hear politicians so explicitly say, 'I go and do interviews so I can get money for my campaign.' I've never seen anyone say that."

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/07/22/at-press-conference-angle-answers-no-questions/

She apparently thinks it is okay to openly admit that you are ONLY using the media as a means for fundraising.

NOT to explain your positions.

NOT to communicate directly with voters.

*ONLY* TO MAKE MONEY FOR HER CAMPAIGN.

Seriously. Re-read this.

Angle:

"the whole point of an interview is to use it like they say, 'earned media,' to earn something with it."

"will they let me say I need $25 dollars from a million people?"

As Ralston says, "I've never seen anyone say that."

"Tea Party Express" and "Tea Party Federation" are two seperate groups who both have the words "Tea Party" in their name. There are others out there also. These groups all try to say they speak for the huge mass of disparate individuals that make up what the general public views as the "Tea Party Movement". Nothing could be further from the truth.
What happened here is one wannabe group "kicked out" the other wannabe group. Words only. Both groups will continue believing their own version of the truth, and continue to say that they speak for the "Tea Party Movement".
This is no different than if this blog community "kicked out" a competing liberal blog community from the Democratic Party.

ot but can we can the 'lunatic left' bullshit from yesterday and an earlier thread today?

we on the left, unlike so many on the right, can note mistakes made by people on our side.

It's a good piece, Greg, but I would omit the part about getting the campaign to disclose whether they'll continue to take the money from the TPE. It appears that they will continue to do so.

The larger question is what do they expect from someone like Angle? What are they getting? The TPE is more than an anti-Reid group. They're bigots. Why do they love Angle so much?

Those who think this race is over, though, are crazy. There is a large segment that's frustrated and tired of looking for work and they'll blame the Democrats who promised them better jobs and more opportunities.

Sharron has sold her soul to the devil while claiming to buy the election as 'god's plan.'

She's not taking any money from them. TPX raises money for itself.

We now find ourselves 6 weeks out from the primaries. We still hold hope that Sharron Angle will win but with recent events a win seems to be slipping away. Angle to date is running an incredibly weak campaign. It is obvious we would have been far better off with a strong, conservative fighter who can stand up to Reid like Danny Tarkanian. That said we must remember that the Tea Party Express is at fault. They chose to back Angle and buy the election without truly knowing Sharron or her flaws. The $600,000 they spent in the last 8 weeks of the primary moved her from barely known to the winners circle. The Express is a corrupt group who is only out to make money for themselves. 75% of what they take in goes back to the parent company, Russo, Marsh and Rogers or their associated companies. If Sharron Angle fails to win we MUST hold the Tea Party Express accountable. Support the Tea Party Movement. Reject the Tea Party Express.

I love Harry's ads where he points out that he (not the taxpayers) funded a new veterans hospital and that he (not the taxes of my grandchildren and great grandchildren) "created" 2000 jobs at a solar panel facility. etc. The ads always end with large print on the screen saying "No one can do more for Nevada than Harry Reid." Well Harry, since Nevada is #1 in unemployment and #1 in foreclosures and #1 in bankruptcies, maybe you should consider not doing so much and retire back to Searchlight. Most Nevadans would likely be a lot better off if you stopped "doing more," Harry!

Thank you, progressives, for encouraging us to vote for Sharron Angle! If progressives demonize Sharron Angle, you encourage us vote for her. As a general rule, the more progressive demonize someone, the better that person is and the more able that person is to help us defend ourselves -- and our children and grandchildren -- from Obama, Reid and Pelosi and their job-killing, economy-killing, freedom-killing scams like Obamacare and cap and trade. We’ll vote for Sharron Angle!

We'll happily vote for Sharron Angle!

Don't worry, Bob Hastings. The more progressives hail Reid and demonize Angle, the more they encourage us to vote for Angle.

Progressives help us understand that we must vote for Angle. We must vote Reid OUT to defend ourselves -- and our children and grandchildren -- from job-killing, economy-killing, freedom-killing scams like Obamacare and cap and trade!

We have to vote Reid (and Obama and all their comrades) OUT before they achieve their goal of "radically transforming the U.S." into a failed socialist/Marxist country like Cuba or Venezuela. Angle offers us the HOPE that we may yet be saved from socialism/Marxism.

We'll vote for Angle!
