Still more proof Sarah Palin is toxic outside her bubble

Okay, here's still more evidence, as if you needed it, that Sarah Palin is increasingly toxic to voters who reside outside the Palin Nation bubble.

Pew Research just released a new poll finding that more than twice as many Americans see a Palin endorsement as a negative for a Congressional candidate than view it as a positive.

The numbers: Thirty eight percent say they are less likely to back a Congressional candidate if Palin "campaigns on their behalf." Less than half that amount, 18 percent, say they are more likely to do so. Forty two percent say it would make no difference, only slightly more than see it as a downer.

No one is contesting the fact that Palin is a major draw among GOP primary voters. But the larger story here -- one that goes directly to the heart of her presidential aspirations -- is that she's successfully tightening her emotional grip on her devoted legions of supporters at the expense of just about everyone else. Far more see her as a turn-off than as a turn-on.

Palin supporters get very, very angry when you point this out. But the evidence is overwhelming at this point:

* A recent NBC/WSJ poll reached the same conclusion as today's Pew poll: It found that a majority of adults nationwide would look negatively on candidates endorsed by Palin.

* A recent Gallup poll noted a striking disconnect in public attitudes towards Palin: While her favorability rating is far higher among Republicans than that of all the other 2012 GOP contenders, she's also far and away the least liked of all the 2012 hopefuls among Americans overall.

* A recent poll of New Hampshire voters from the Dem firm Public Policy Polling found that 51 percent say they're less likely to back a Palin-endorsed candidate. Tellingly, among moderates that number jumped to 65 percent.

* Multiple other polls have found her negatives on the rise with the broader electorate.

This all supports what I've argued here before: That Palin is better off staying in her current role of celebrity quasi-candidate. This has allowed her to insulate herself from direct media cross-examination and to communicate directly to the Palin Nation mob, which is growing more transfixed. But the rest of the world continues to sour on her. It's hard to see how she'll succeed if she ever steps outside the bubble she's crafted for herself.

There's a tremendous amount of media discussion about whether Palin will run for president and about how much of a political "rock star" she has become. It's odd that the larger and arguably more important story about what she has wrought for herself never enters into the conversation.

The correct answer is: Sarah who?

Well, that's a good thing for Democrats, because she's been a kingmaker in the GOP primaries. The folks she has endorsed have won consistently--something like 25 wins compared to 4 losses.

Now, if she's that big a turn-off in the national elections, that could be a huge positive for Democrats, because so many of the national campaigns feature candidates that Palin picked to win their primaries.

So, good news for the Dems. Bad news for Republicans, who will be desperate for her support in the primaries, but will want her to go away in the general.

Greg, from Pew, this also bolsters Reid's argument that you shared in the previous thread:

* Earmarks Could Help Candidates in Midterms *

A majority of Americans (53%) say they are more likely to vote for a candidate with a record of delivering earmarks for their districts; just 12% say they would be less likely to vote for such a candidate. A third of the public (33%) says this would make no difference in their vote either way.

Also, Greg, head-to-head for the question of "X campaigns on candidate's behalf," Obama beats Palin hands down on every metric.

Obama is more favored in general, more favored by the base, and less opposed by the other side than Palin is.

And if any of them do win election, will they eventually back away from Palin since she is basically unpopular and wacky to boot.

Quitter Palin does occasionally provide very useful information to the Public.

Just this weekend, on Fox News, she let the voters know that Republicans want to balloon the national deficit by another 3.8 trillion dollars, in order to make sure that Billionaries continue to grow richer and richer.

She also was the first to let us all know that Gov. Jan Brewer is not really a woman; but in fact has huge male genitalia.

I can't believe anyone in America still gives a hoot about Sarah Palin.

Dan Quale was a bit like Sarah Palin, but at least he had the good grace to get out of the national spot light once the election was over.

Palin can't do that. Well I guess she could, but her goal seems to be to cash in on her fame. I get that; there are a lot of stupid people clamoring for the opportunity to give her money. If she doesn't move quickly those people will go back to making wall art with their buggers. They, like most Goopers, have the attention span of a crack-addicted fruit fly. I'm guessing that is one of the reasons she quit her job as governor; the money was just too good, but to get it she had to move quickly.

Strategically, from a Democratic point of view, I'm guessing her nonsense will be a long term bonus for the Ds. But in the short term she may be able to help drive turnout.

While Sister Sarah epitomizes the phenomenon you've described Greg I believe it goes to the larger problem for all Republicans with leadership aspirations.

Palin has enough charisma that she has managed to hold off the inevitable as the public discovers who she truly is...but Sarah is probably a unique "celebrity" in our political sphere. She is obviously unelectable..thank heavens since she is just as obviously a lame brain...but her influence along with the broader influence of the Tea Party is doing some CRAZY things to the repubs.

And so we are faced with as BBQ pointed out earlier...Republicans griping about Obama playing fast and loose with the Constitution when they LITERALLY WANT TO REWRITE IT. NOT ONE BUT TWO AMENDMENTS. WHAT'S NEXT R'S? Mainstream R's like Kyl and McConnell not just the right wing wacks like Palin. And now Newt johnny on the spot to save us from Sharia Law...yeah we're all terrified of that!!!
Hey Newt...how about some help with my unaffordable health costs...about supporting two wars I am totally against and are draining our already weak economy...yeah Newt...we'd love to follow you...IF WE were all a bunch of cowards, haters and greedy losers.

Seriously all of the R's, even normally thoughtful and educated ones, are now being forced into saying some really stupid, demagogic stuff to pander to their base.

Only one man has survived selling his soul to the right wing devil. Charlie Crist!
He tried his best to sell out moving farher and farther to the right in response to Rubio and farther and farther away from his Centrist leanings. In an ironic twist the tea partiers tried to foist the crook Marco Rubio on we Floridians...pushed Charlie right out of the Republican Party and right into the lap of rational decision making.

She has a shot a winning the Republican nomination. She would be the only woman running against the usual collection of Republican male zombies. She already has a corner on the Right Wing Male Imbecile voters, who turn out for primaries.

Some behind the scene handlers, have laid out a plan for her, to make the candidates in Red states beholden to her, because she endorsed them, and she can then latch on to their already established election operations.

They know that she would get more than her share of the men, so that is why her behind the scenes handlers have had her wooing the Right Wing women voters. That is what all that Mama Grizzlies crap was all about.

She could very easily take the Iowa Caucuses, and a lot of the other early Republican primaries. By then; a lot of the men would have dropped out, and she might be hard to stop.

Conservatives tend to find any woman who believes in the same nonsense they do and is even a little attractive irresistible. For other examples see Ann (check out my adams apple) Coulter and Michele Malkin.

Since their appeal is solely to wingnuts, and since wingnuts judge books entirely upon what is on the cover, they really don't need to know anything. And they don't.

I've have been saying since the last election that the best thing for Dems would be for her to win the Republican nomination. She plays well to the hard-core base, but the middle isn't going to buy her dim-bulb, reactionary idealogue nonsense. And she would highly energize the left and middle to come out against her. So in my view, her nomination would effectively guarantee a second term for Obama. That would be a good thing.

However, I see her as a risk for the mid-terms. The polls don't tell you how likely a responder is to vote in November. If the folks who like her are energized and come out to vote, while folks who don't like her stay home, she could help some conservatives win congressional seats. Never underestimate the power of mindless belief and stupidity. Rust never sleeps.

"There's a tremendous amount of media discussion about whether Palin will run for president and about how much of a political "rock star" she has become."

But really, she's less of a rock star, and more of a cult TV program. She's like Jericho--one of those shows that the network keeps trying to cancel because nobody likes it, but this devoted cult following that LOVES it improbably keeps it going. And to keep that audience happy, the show becomes even more inaccessible to regular viewers...Palin is a cult favorite, not a rock star.

And to this: "Palin is better off staying in her current role of celebrity quasi-candidate."

A failed presidential run, if properly executed, fits PERFECTLY into the strategy of maintaining this role. Think Al Sharpton: he kept running for office because it helped him keep his celebrity quasi-candidate status when he wasn't running.

cfeher, did you consider the possibility that the mama grizzly did not see the hikers as "innocent", but as a threat?

You cannot equate your logic to a bear. As wild animals, bears respond to stimuli that we don't understand so we call them unpredictable. When threatened (their opinion, not a human's) they can be extremely violent and aggressive to the perceived threat.

I do not support Palin, but your comparison is intellectually bereft. Why? Because the bear protects itself and its offspring with great vigor. Which is what Palin claims she will be like in protecting what she perceives as "American values" on the right.

I don't believe her because like all politicians she's trying to reach an audience for her own advancement.

In this regard she has no chance against an Obama.

Can elpietro or any of the other Palin backers answer just a few simple questions.

NUMBER ONE: You guys never respond with facts such as Sarah predicted this and it happened or Sarah ACHIEVED this without quitting. You always speak in broad generalities like "mama grizzley' or the Constitution or something vague that has nothing to do with Palin's actual accomplishments, achievements or IQ or even her policy positions.

Number two: Why do you not address the glaring hypocrisy? She was a protege of Ted Stevens a man who spent four decades in DC making sure Alaska was the biggest welfare queen of all 50 states. Seriously Palin supporters Alaska finishes every year in the TOP THREE STATES THAT TAKE FEDERAL MONEY...they receive far more than they pay.

Palin learned well from Stevens...besides originally(until she was VP candidate) supporting his infamous "bridge to nowhere" and then LYING ABOUT IT (PLZ explain that lie elpietro...we have videotape of her campaigning for the bridge and videotape of her VP announcement of her BRAGGING she was AGAINST the bridge. Do you people not value honesty at all?

And do you not see the hypocrisy in somebody who comes from the biggest beggar state in the Union who as Mayor of Wasilla hired a DC lobbyist and got 27 million of FEDERAL MONEY for 6,000 Wasilla residents in just four years.

This is a lady who has taken our tax dollars time and time again and then has the fake "cojones" to lecture us about fiscal responsibility?

Right, the Dems can run on earmarks, pro-illegal immigration, higher taxes, government takeovers of health care, auto, finance, et al.

The Repubs can run on Palin's message of lower taxes, border security, fiscal responsibility, smaller governmnet, etc.

And we'll see how it goes in three months...

Palin has her crazed pseudochristian supporters, but most of America has rejected their Old Testament medieval version of "reality". Most are disgusted with politicians like the Republican candidate for governor, who supports a "Christian" punk rock ministry that thinks fundamentalist Muslim countries are "more moral than America" because they execute gay people:

http://minnesotaindependent.com/59337/emmer-campaign-donated-to-you-can-run

Most of America doesn't want us to go fundamentalist, and value our living in the modern, science-loving world.

Palin, behind the pretty smile and the wink, is an American version of the fundy Muslim nutcases. That's not American. That's cultural terrorism.

...the "government run media?"

Is that a serious post or does the poster really not understand what, exactly, a 'government run media' looks like. Please see the old USSR, North Korea, Iran and China (though not all media) and Zimbabwe...for starters.

But I'd guess the poster also thinks Obama is a 'socialist' and, therefore, orchestrating a socialist take over of the government. (See Cuba as a beginning point to better understand socialism in government and how it is different from the American system.) I'd also guess Fox News is the way to ensure 'independent' news, right?

The lack of even a fundamental reality base by key groups across the spectrum of current American politics is, perhaps, without true precedent in our nation's history. And to those who know our nation's political history, I still say this very seriously.

Groups simply make things up...identify the most histrionic nonsense they can think of...and it becomes relevant, reported on and debated news 'events.' (See Shirley Sherrod) This is not the same thing as offering a unique interpretation of a fact based event to which others disagree but, instead, recreating or making up something that then becomes 'news.'

Just one of the more remarkable examples of this pattern were the so called 'death panels' as claimed by Sarah Palin and others in the health care legislation. Of course, they NEVER existed AT ALL but, none-the-less, took on a life of their own.

A life, mind you, nurtured by that same 'government run media.' Seems to me that if the media were really a tool of the government, that same government did a really lousy job of getting them to tow the line and stir the government's propaganda pot, don't you think??

No matter how outlandish, the mainstream (or the claimed 'government run' media) will report on it if it sells papers.

Most of the mainstream media may be 'corporate owned' and manipulated but hardly 'government owned.' And both, Palin and the so called 'Tea Party' are more media constructs than anything else inasmuch as there is no 'party' but the need to sell papers without reporting on the news & issues while trying to understand what is actually happening. And I doubt Palin would exist with the cameras off.

Yes, there absolutely is a general and deeply honest degree of frustration and anger at how the government is...or is not...operating out there. But there is ample evidence that much of this confusion has been manipulated by political parasites housed in the RNC and other special interest groups and masked as a 'national' movement.

A national movement needs a coherent platform and agreement on who will represent the movement. The 'tea party' is, instead, an amalgam of citizen needs which have been hijacked by a core group and given false credibility by the 'corporate run' media looking for a quick profit.

So, before making pointless references to the 'government run' media, it might be helpful to do even a little bit more homework.

Sarah Palin and Barry Obama have much in common.

They are both inspiring millions of Americans to vote Republican.

Posted by: Jerzy | August 3, 2010 3:21 PM | Report abuse

Why do the media pay attention to Palin?

If they're right-wing oriented (Fox News is the best example) they cover her because of the repetition of the Texas Republican Party talking points. Rove's basic rule is that if any message is repeated often enough, with enough volume, it will become true. (This may account for Cheney still trying to say there were WMDs.)
If the media are left-leaning or independent, they cover her because of the train-wreck factor, or to let voters who pay attention to news not originating with Fox News know what the right wing wants to cram down everyone else's gullet.

Palin is not smart, but she is cunning. How else could someone who ran a political race and lost, and then quit her existing job early, become rich by being labeled a political genius and king- or queenmaker?

Come to that, how does a parent who allowed her teenage daughter's new boyfriend to live in their home until after the daughter was pregnant gain a reputation as representing strong family values? Do "conservatives" now think family values mean surrounding yourself with as many grandchildren as possible, no matter the means? Will Ms. Palin's other kids also get live-in boy- and girlfriends?

She is newsworthy, but only as a barometer for how self-deluded the "conservatives" have become.

To this day I still can't figure out why people are so intrigued by this lady.

As a governor she ran on a platform or ethics reform, and "new energy for Alaska".

Although I typically vote Democrat, it didn't bother me that she won the governorship. Right away she worked across the aisle with the Dems to get ethics reforms passes, revise the oil revenue taxes, and cut checks to every Alaskan for the purpose of off-setting high fuel costs.

Then things started to change. We found out that she hated Juneau (the capital) and was never there. She was living in Wasilla at her house and commuting to Anchorage to work. All the while collecting travel per diem because her "official" duty station was Juneau. This wasn't a huge deal, but enough to make Alaskans scratch their head. In the end she paid it all back, plus the taxes owed on it (something like $18,000).

Next she used her position of power to fire the commissioner of Public Safety Walt Monegan because she wanted Walt to fire a state trooper that had been married to Palins sister. The trooper in question had skeletons in the closet, but had already been punished by public safety for his misdeeds prior to Walt taking the commish position. Walt had worked for the Anchorage Police Dept. from 1976 until Palin hired him in 2006. Walt had a great reputation as a law enforcement officer and was well liked by everyone that worked with/for him. Even if Walt wanted to fire the guy he couldn't based on the circumstances and protections through the union.

There's plenty of other things this lady did that's worth mentioning but I'm sure those things will come out over time.

The bottom line: Sarah Palin grew up in a small rail belt community outside of Anchorage. Wasilla is a red neck mecca full of people that impersonate the REAL Alaskans that live off the road system in rural villages, where they truly live off the land. The Wasilla red necks have an enormous sense of entitlement. They don't care about finishing school because there is plenty of work up on the north slope working for the oil companies. In these jobs they work two weeks on and have two weeks off. The two weeks off is used to play, i.e. go fishing, hunting, four wheeling, snowmachining, partying, etc. They typically vote for Republican politicians because they identify with the small govt. rhetoric, yet we Alaskans are an expensive habit to keep. We receive an enormous amount of federal dollars each year for our roads, and social services. We also don't pay state taxes, and each year receive a dividend check from the state coffers based on investments from our oil income.

We also have a small population, hovering around 680,000 people. We are able to keep relatively close tabs on our politicians. In this state Sarah Palin and family are joke material. We don't take her or her family's shenanigans seriously, and we have a difficult time understanding why folks in the lower 48 are so mesmerized by her dim wit.

"...Palin is better off staying in her current role of celebrity quasi-candidate. This has allowed her to insulate herself from direct media cross-examination and to communicate directly to the Palin Nation mob, which is growing more transfixed."

What has allowed Palin to insulate herself, and to communicate directly with the "Palin Nation" is the media itself. They have followed her blurbs, her tweets, her soundbite Barbie bits on Fox as if she is the President. For months, the media itself has been transfixed with 'will she or won't she run for President?'Or, 'she's a kingmaker'. Or, 'the dems will lose the house and senate because the Tea Party, of which Sarah was annointed Queen by the media (although we knew she was a GOP huckster), based on some primary wins, will take them out.

The media created her. They think she's cute. Loved the recent story on creating new words like Shakespeare. That was too goshdarn cute. And now we have the little lady stepping up and talking about the President's lack of cojones according to the press. No mention is made about the increase in deportees, and the decrease in crime along the border, also attributed to Obama's administration. No questions are asked. And the media coverage of this trash-talking darling has jumped the shark. I guess what with journalistic standards getting sucked down the toilet, what else should we expect other than a self-feeding cycle where the featured media stories are about other media celebutantes?

She can't write, she can't think, syntax is a foreign concept, she has a gutter mouth, and fact-based reality is for losers - but the media continues to cover this clown as if she is the Socrates of our time. and she'll cost the republicans key seats again this November.

Just as an example that can be easily verified -
In 2008, moderate 'Hollywood' republicans, e.g. Ron Silver, Dennis Hopper,(these guys were serious conservatives policy-wise)
and many more - all said Palin was a "dealbreaker" - that forced them to hold their noses and vote for Obizzle.

I am a Liberal that understands Sara Palin's popularity, to a point. I do not think she is an imbecile. She is attractive and she certainly has charisma. However, I consider her unfit to be president. Why? Not because she is unintelligent (although she may be. I have not seen the IQ scores) but because she is lazy. After her disasterous interviews in 2008 in which she indicated she had little knowledge about foreign or domestic affairs she could have hired a tutor or someone to school her in the facts. She was ignorant, which is very different than being stupid. She did not know the facts because she never studied them. Now it is over two years later and she still is as ignorant (unknowing of the facts) as she was then. In addition she makes things up. Death Panels? Come on. Only a moron would think that death panels were part of the health care bill. I know that Sara Palin has no chance of being president. She is certainly less qualified that the disgraced John Edwards and, again, you are mentally deficient if you do not recognize that fact. I am not at all bothered by the support she gets. She is undeniably entertaining. What gets me is when her supporters have the audacity to think that this uneducated woman has the credentials to be president. Because, SHE DOES NOT. There are many qualified Republicans out there that are competant enough to be president. Sara Palin is not one of them. It is insulting to all Americans that some of her supporters think she is. So, Palin supporters, think before you speak. That is, if you can.

demand that democrats pay for unemployment benefits of 40 billion don't worry about paying for tax cuts that will run into trillions of dollars excuse me how is this even equitable?

How many jobs did the Bush Tax cuts create? thats right they didn't we ended up his Presidency by doubling the national debt 5 trillion to nearly 11 trillion and 2 wars paid for on the credit cards interest to be determined in the future that our kids and grandkids have to pay

fair if you are a "neocon" and a idiot raising taxes back to the rates that we had when Clinton left office isn't near as bad as returning them to the rates we had when Reagan left office or even Bush 41 now those were high taxes..... most of you complaining won't even see your taxes raised the democrats only want to raise taxes on people making 250,000 or more a year if married and 200,000 a year if single only those making more will have their rates adjusted and I doubt many of you are ever going to hit the lottery or get left a bunch of money and death taxes are different and have nothing to do with annual income for 98% of the nation the tax issue is just a "issue" that will never touch you the republicans push the idea that you MIGHT get rich one day get over it you won't

Think Palin is toxic. How many Democrats are willing to have Barry (Soetoro - America's first foreign born, Muslim, anti American President - aka Hussein Mohamid Obama - the great Democratic Party bowel movement) show up to camapign for them. Palin is obviously having a positive effect for honest, hard working Americans - why else would the spokesmen (and women)for the parasites, the garbage, the trash of American society (Democrats) hate her so much. Because she tells the truth!!!! Because she has the qualifications to run something - she ran a State that is a major contributer to America's energy needs. And just what is the "great deceiver" capable of running - "IT" ("he" is reserved for humanoids, or living things with an IQ greater than a turnip) wouldn't have the qualifications or intelligence to run his own bathwater. Although to be fair "it" has run the country to the edge of bankruptcy.

An aquaintance the other day said that Greg Sargent couldn't count his IQ on both hands. But I stood up for him. "Oh yes he can", I said.

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."

She and her handlers are very smart and they will do ANYTHING to get and keep her name in the news.

She reminds me of the women I ran into in cowboy bars back in my drinking days. Fun to shoot pool and drink beer with...President of The United States....hmmm not so much.

Palin has brilliantly evaluated her assets and turned them into a money making machine. She, above all, recognizes that 25% of the electorate will support almost anyone who says the right words, and that support can be turned into money. I give her a lot of credit. She's the most financially successful high school cheer leader / pom pon queen I have ever seen.

What's negative about Palin. Is it the patriotic tone in which she speaks. Is it her speeches about jobs, the economy, the deficit and the debt. How about freedom of speech, rights, choices, and the Constitution. Maybe it's because she expects Obama to be the President of all the people and not just the far left. Or maybe Palin is negative because she loves this country and it comes out loud and clear. This country created everything that comes out of the mouth of Palin and Palin believes in this country. What does Obama believe in other then social justice and socialism. Obama doesn't believe in America. To Obama America doesn't work, it's broken. We've done nothing right according to Obama. Our American ways have done nothing but hold us back and Obama says he's not going back but forward. Who's more American in the eyes of the American people, Palin or Obama. Who would take this country in the direction that made this country great, Palin or Obama. Who wants to destroy this country with their policies and regulations, Palin or Obama. It's a tall tale no one wants to be endorsed by Palin. Which Democrat wants Obama endorsement. Not one. No one in the Democrat party, the far left, and especially the MSM can make Palin look like anything other then the American loving woman she is. Look how easy it is to lump Obama to the big three, socialism, Marxism, and communism. Obama is a combination of all three. Obama just can't make up his mind which one he likes the best and which one he will use against the American people.

This is the 678th or the 679th Sarah Palin bashing article the Washington Post has run in the past two years. The White House and the Post must be scared to death of her.

The facts are: Palin supports candidates and they win. Obama supports candidates and they lose. Obama is such poison that Democratic candidates are now leaving town when they learn that he is coming so that they don't have to appear with him.

Why doesn't the Post try running the truth once in a while?

Nothing else about her is obvious for me The obvious thing about Obama now that his endorsement is EXTREMELY negative for everyone who got it, since Obama voters understood what his health reform and all other intentions were about. And it happened about the year ago, last August. It is looking ridiculous to "bark" at Palin, while being in shoes of Obama and his closest associates.

You too must be as ignorant as Palin. She isn't good enough to carry Hillary Clinton's shoes as she is far too dumb at everything except selling her vitriol for cash and you stupid wingnuts are giving her your money for nothing. Her husband quits working so he can live off of her, she shills out her kids, especially her Downs baby, and her daughter who was again shacking up with her baby-daddy, for money. She tries to sell herself and her family to Hollywood, the place that she demonizes and calls herself a Christian while incessantly saying demeaning and untrue things about Obama. Where in her Bible did God Almighty tell her to destroy the reputation of a decent man if doing so can enrich her bank account?
There is nothing good, decent or Christian about Palin. She is nothing more than a constant critic to those who serves her purpost of self-enrichment. She is the most thin-skinned celebrity in the country and never allows one word that she perceives to correct her lies, to go unchallenged. When does she take care of those children since she spends most of her waking hours on Face Book repeating her lies and calling others names for questioning her words and logic? Does she even care about her children or are they just money makers to feed her ego? She better watch out because while she is filling her own ego with idiots worshipping every word, her other daughters just might get knocked up too. Poor Levi doesn't really understand just how lucky he is removing himself from Palin's vicious clutches. Christian woman? Not in this lifetime. Christian fraud, oh yeah! fritz

she is toxic because she represents all that is wrong with American politics.

She is an intellectual lightweight who believes rote recitation of talking points is meaningful dialgog with the electorate. Guess what? for some it is.

She is pre packaged and handled to avoid any semblance of spontaneity or independent thinking. The facts and figures she writes on her hand are designed to keep her on message lest her concentration wander to all the important stuff like wardrobe, the size of her hotel room, etc.

She is chock full of homilies and lacks any real original thought. Her solutions to what ails the nation come from right wing think tanks and consultants who advise her to "identify" with the real people, when, in fact, her craven desire for celebrity and fame and fortune is obvious for all to see and is what makes it impossible for her to begin to understand or relate to what people are experiencing.

Except for a relatively few who have been bamboozled by her act, Sarah Palin is what she appears to be: a phony and a woman who may lack IQ but who has quickly figured out there is a buck to be made by playing the role of thought leader and party activist. She will play it until the Republican brain trust figures out she is the problem they have not the solution. Then she will fade into the backwoods of Alaska with Todd, Tripp and whomever with her several million dollars and live a very comfortable life as momma grizzly.

Nice try, Greg. But at this point, I'd say Sarah Palin's future is a whole lot brighter than yours, and those of your loser, liberal, loony friends at the Washington Post who keep trying to make Sarah Palin look bad, by any means necessary.

Despite your rants, insults, lies and smears for nearly two years now, Palin's star is brighter than ever, she wealthier than ever, she more popular than ever, and she's more poised to become president than ever. So please - keep it up. Keep her in the news. Keep putting her in your pages. You're doing no harm, but you ARE helping to keep her buoyant and in the news.

In the meantime, take heed of what's happened to Air America and, most recently, Newsweek. And don't think it can't happen to the Washington Post.

- no First Amendment rights for Muslim American Citizens as a Gringrinch wedge issue

- torture

- obscene profits for big oil at the expense of the environment

bobfbell, I've revised your post so that it makes more sense. Changes are in CAPS. Please note the following:

OBAMA is toxic because HE represents all that is wrong with American politics.

HE is an intellectual lightweight who believes TELEPROMPTER recitation of talking points is meaningful dialog with the electorate. Guess what? for some it is.

HE is pre packaged and handled to avoid any semblance of spontaneity or independent thinking. The facts and figures HE READS FROM HIS TELEPROMPTER are designed to keep HIM on message lest HIS SUPPORTERS' concentration wander to THINKING ABOUT HIS SINKING POLL NUMBERS, AND REALIZE THE COLOSSAL MISTAKE THEY MADE IN VOTING FOR HIM.

HE is chock full of homilies and lacks any real original thought. HIS solutions to what ails the nation come from SAUL ALINSKY AND KARL MARX and consultants who advise HIM to "identify" with the real people, when, in fact, HIS craven desire for celebrity and fame LEADS HIM TO APPEAR ON SHOWS LIKE "THE VIEW". IT is obvious for all to see THAT HE IS A SHAM AND AN AMERICAN-HATING, CHICAGO THUG. SINCE HE DOESN'T GIVE A $#!%, THIS makes it impossible for HIM to begin to understand or relate to what AMERICANS are experiencing.

Except for a relatively few who have been bamboozled by HIS act, BARACK OBAMA is what HE appears to be: a phony, A HACK, and a LITTLE BOY PLAYING PRESIDENT who may lack IQ but who has quickly figured out there is a buck to be made by TAKING CORPORATE CAMPAIGN MONEY, TAXING AMERICANS TO DEATH AND TAKING OVER PRIVATE ENTERPRISE, WHILE playing the role of thought leader and LIBERAL party activist. HE will play it until the DEMOCRAT PARTY IMPLODES IN ON ITSELF, AND AMERICANS TAKE BACK THEIR COUNTRY FROM HIS BAND OF CROOKS AND SOCIALISTS. Then HE will BE BROUGHT UP ON CHARGES OF FAILING TO PROTECT OUR BORDERS AND UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION, BE FROG-WALKED TO PRISON ALONG WITH SEVERAL MEMBERS OF HIS ADMINISTRATION, AND AMERICANS CAN BEGIN TO LIVE A very comfortable life WITH A momma grizzly AS PRESIDENT, 2013-2021.

Palin wants the US to be a Christian theocracy.

Nothing more, nothing less.

This Tea Party movement is a disguise for a movement towards a formal theocracy in the United States.

Show me ONE Tea party member who is non-Christian.

JUST ONE.

There aren't any.

It's not about race- although race and religion both stem from the same tree- and end up DIVIDING humanity I observe.

It is no wonder you see on Fox News- all three, racism, genderism - and religious segregation at a political level.

Tim Miltz

Theocracies who have nuclear weapons ? ESPECIALLY those religions who believe we are in 'End Days' ? are VERY dangerous.

Forget Matt Damon saying he needs to know if this woman believes dinosaurs existed 10,000 years ago - I want to her to openly share that her church supports we are in End Days- you can watch HER on stage at HER church on youtube- they state we are in End Days- and God has chosen Alaska as one of the three 'chosen refuge' states.

Wow- REALLY ?

We don't have time for this people- we must put an END to this dangerous movement towards a Christian theocracy in 2010 and 2012.

VOTE.

"But the rest of the world continues to sour on her." Which means the "American world", because out here, outside America, we don't think she could've grown a new brain in the time that's elapsed since she opened her mouth as a vice presidential candidate. I thought we'd never hear of her again after the performance she put on, such an embarassment.

In fact, I've never been so embarassed for America since the Clinton blow up over an illicit affair, which should've been ignored as a family issue not a political one. That so many people think Palin's got something to offer as a leader of anything larger than a girl scout troop, says a lot about the U.S. education system as well as the general intelligence of Americans.

Expanding the ramifications of having an obviously large percentage of stupid people in the population, one must then wonder how America is ever going to manage to compete against the rest of the world in any endeavor, be it in commerce or war. The numbers do not bode well.

Sarah Palin has realized that she just isn't Presidential material but she has offered to check the balls of Republican candidates because she believes that balls make the man. Not brains. No. What does this tell us? Why isn't she interested in improving the intelligence of Republican candidates. Is that gene pool so polluted that it negates truth and logic and favors Hocus Pocus and the speaking of tongues. Sure there are plenty of Mormon Republicans but they represent a fraudulent religion based on the plagiarism of fiction by the religions founder Joseph Smith Jr.. So is there a faction of good in the "No Nothing, and "Do Nothing" Republican Party? We are looking. We are turning over rocks in the Mojave Desert right now. These guys are priceless.

The man they catapulted in office (Greek Columns intact) is plummeting in popularity with the faction--independents--that helped seal the deal (he's down 20 points in a year); the democrats are lounging on a political Titanic with a solid chance of losing both houses of congress; Iowa was the FIRST in what will be many successful challenges to torpedo Obamacare; there is a greater chance a significant number iof democratic governors will be shown the door which will have the ultimate affect of changing the lines of demarcation for census taking (if you don't know the implications of that, there's no point in explaining it; democrats are--with less than 90 days to the midterms--caught up in not one but TWO ethic scandals; and the President is stumping for Alexi Gianoullis a former banker who it has been proven loaned money to known mobsters and others with established links to prostitution BUT there's much consolation to be taken in the static around Palin's popularity as an endorser.

What feckless hacks like Sargent don't get is that it doesn't matter what the public thinks about Palin's selections; it's whether or not they win--one way or the other--and the political capital Palin pockets by THEM knowing how her money helped.

The current left-leaning media and the democratic party is by far THE dumbest segment of the citizenry I have seen in all the years i have observed politics but to be fair I've only been doing so for 50 years.

I have never seen a party use so much misinformation and out right lies to try to sway people. And the only ones they are fooling are the hard core right wingers who believe all the BS spewed by the Republicans. Anyone with any common sense and who has the ability to fact check can easily see what a bunch of liers the right is.
It's sad that they just can't try to win their arguments by telling the truth, but then I guess they would have a hard time winning anything if they did that!
It's very pitiful times for the Republicans and Sarah Palin is a great example of the emptiness that exists in the party!!!!!
