Rand Paul campaign condemns attack, disowns volunteer

The Rand Paul campaign, unwilling to leave even a hint of doubt in the air as to its condemnation of last night's attack, which seems to be ballooning into a major political problem, releases a new statement unequivocally condemning the incident:

"The Paul for Senate campaign is extremely disappointed in, and condemns the actions of a supporter last night outside the KET debate. Whatever the perceived provocation, any level of aggression or violence is deplorable, and will not be tolerated by our campaign. The Paul campaign has disassociated itself from the volunteer who took part in this incident, and once again urges all activists -- on both sides -- to remember that their political passions should never manifest themselves in physical altercations of any kind."

That seems to suggest the Paul campaign has identified the assailant, or at least one of the participants. More when I learn it.

That also seems to suggest that the Rand Paul campaign recognized the severity of what happened since every web site is covering it and I'm sure local news orgs are exploding over it.

OT but Obama is going to campaign for Perriello.

http://washingtonindependent.com/101656/obama-to-stump-for-perriello-friday

I'd say this is the campaign I'm most interested in this year. It'll be the true teller on if a strong candidate can run on Obama's agenda in a district that is something like a R+3.

If he pulls this off, I suggest he run seminars on how to stick it to Republicans and make them eat and own their radical positions.

When the unions cause all sorts of violence at anti-trade marches, one NEVER hears the liberals talk like this.

OHH, such a grave injustice.

When the violence is from a liberal, the windows of stores are broken - or it is a riot of blacks in downtown Oakland - the liberals don't want to talk about it.

Hypocrisy.

We also heard all sort of predictions from the liberals that the Tea Party would get "violent" - Never happened.

The innercity violence in this nation - the liberals NEVER talk about that. That is much, much worse.

How many children were SHOT in Chicago this year? What has Obama done about that? And that is just one city.

That is an excellent statement from the Paul Camp. I hope the victim of the vicious assault makes a speedy and full recovery. Those guys who attacked her are low life thugs. I never have been able to reconcile how so many men are capable of battering women, but it is happening all the time, and real men need to step up and condemn it.

"A" supporter? Yes, stomping on the woman was probably the worst of it. But before that happened, several other people forced her to the ground and pinned her down, for the apparent crime of public dissent. So is Rand Paul going to "put his man pants on," or does he think only one supporter acted inappropriately?

ALERT

In a trend which is certain to continue Univision is on track to become the NUMBER ONE network in the US - surpassing ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox.

The new census is expected to show a nearly 45% increase in the number of Hispanic Americans since 2000, to a total of 50 million. This couples with continuing audience erosion at the major networks and Univision's recent deal with Mexican programer Grupo Televisa, which locks up the source of much the network's popular programing for at least another decade.

And she was being restrained from ATTACKING RAND PAUL.

There were people calling for the police.

The woman was breaking the law - by attacking and rushing.

When she was restrained, she continued to push forward - SHE WAS NOT COOPERATING.

When she was restrained, she continued to push forward, in an attempt to get closer the candidate.

Then it looked like she was acting.

ANYWAY you want to look at it, the woman CAUSED the incident.

If the woman was standing in one place - shouting what she wanted - nothing would have happened. It was that she was physically CHARGING at the candidate - and threatening to attack him that caused the incident.

Then she continued to charge - after being restrained. That is why she was pushed to the ground.

What are the campaign workers supposed to do - just stand there, and clear a path for A CLEARLY DERANGED PERSON?

To go, go, GO!
Get on your way!
Please LeafofLife!

Kentucky blog "Barefoot and Progressive" is making a compelling case that the perpetrator is Tim Profitt, Rand Paul's campaign manager for Bourbon County.

If the identity of the mugger was known, the Paul campaign would be legally required to report this crime immediately to authorities. Instead, it seems clear that the Paul campaign chose to cover up the identity of the perpetrator of the assault, who was, of course, well known to all in Rand Paul camp.

If the thug was indeed Tim Profitt, there has been a syndicated coverup here as well as a level of criminality which should, by all rights, lead to jail terms for more than one individual.

Anyone who has watched the video footage of the incident could attest that there was not one but several attackers. Practically mob behavior. Several people were grabbing her; others were holding her down. The guy who actually stomped on her may have done the physical damage, but all of the participants are complicit.

For the Paul campaign to disingenuously claim that it's severed its relationship with "the volunteer" is outrageous. The campaign should be swearing out arrest warrants for everyone in that video.

You heard it here first, conservatives will not be restrained (or shot) if they rush Barack Obama in the same way this lady did to Rand Paul:

The Bridgeport CT rally is taking place at the Arena at Harbor Yard, and the doors will open to the public at 1 p.m. Tickets are not required to attend to the rally, but seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Assuming that Obama makes it through this rally, he will then be in Philadelphia and Chicago. The following day, Michelle Obama AND Joe Biden will be in Cleveland with Obama (again, assuming nothing changes ; )

JakeD2 asked: "Obama is coming to MY STATE this Saturday, so is it OK if I do the same exact thing to Obama that this woman did to Paul?"

=====

JakeD2,

Sure you can and you'll be promptly and humanely restrained by the Secret Service (i.e real cops as opposed to the Tea Party Gestapo). And you certainly won't get your head stomped by anyone, even if you disagree with the President. And if you do get your head stomped, the perp(s) will be promptly arrested and fired.

Good grief. You can't be serious.

The fact that you equate the two situations explains why some posters here refer to you as "Joke".

Dems want the men who dared touch a MoveOn.org operative to "BURN IN HELL!" Sound familiar?

Rosey Grier would later say, "I grabbed [Sirhan's] legs and dragged him onto a table. There was a guy angrily twisting the killer's legs and other angry faces coming towards him, as though they were going to tear him to pieces."

Then it's reasonable to suspect that maybe most other people would, too, even if they don't vote like you.

===========================

The fact is it was Rand Paul supporters that stomped someone being held down on the ground, and not 'most other people'. So it's not reasonable to make an equivalent assumption about their hypothetical behavior.

I thought your attempt to excuse the birtherism on the right with "but what about the Truthers" was weak tea, but here you've gone beyond that bit of sophistry.

"once again urges all activists -- on both sides -- "

Hey, Rand, how's about you get your goons under control before suggesting that anybody else is as out of control as your people are?

Seriously, false equivalence much?

in response to this goat sucker:

@leafoflife: liberals talk about inner city violence all the time: we talk about how to solve it, and the proliferation of guns, not in a white-flight, gee-i'm-scared-of-the-city-and-brown-people kind of way.
Take your propaganda somewhere else.

=====

talking about it and solving it are two very different things. Talk is cheap and not particularly effective.

if the liberal nostrums worked, the life expectancy for black males in America would be far longer. The chance of being killed by homicide would be roughly equal for blacks, hispanics and white and it is not.

for example, according to the FBI 48% of all homicides in 2009 were of blacks yet blacks comprise 12.8% of our total population.

yeah you guys talk. Meanwhile the people in the inner city keep right on killing each other.

I live near a bastion of Democrat rule: Cleveland Ohio. The murder rate in the city is astounding, yet Democrats have ruled the place since before Dennis the Menace Kuchinich.

so tell me, my little goat sucker, when is all that liberal jaw jacking going to result in something actually improving? Simple answer, based on the track record: never.

What if this had been a presidential candidate, who are protected by the secret service. How would they have reacted to someone so insistent on getting so close to the candidate ? Remember Squeaky Fromm ?

I don't excuse birtherism. It's nonsense. Regarding the remaining sophistry, I am, perhaps, more optimistic about the better angels of our nature than I should be.

She was already shoved to the ground by a bunch of men much bigger then her. Her head was already on the ground and her arms and legs restrained by all the guys. And then the guy standing at her head stomped on her head and neck. There is no excuse for that.

Defense of Rand Paul my a$$. Look at the video. This was simply an assault on the Move On supporter. This small woman had a sign in her hands, not a gun. The Paul a-hole goons - no other words for them - slammed her into the ground and stomped on her repeatedly when she obviously no threat to the bigot Paul. Typical redneck Republican behavior.

Posted by: ChrisRestonVA | October 27, 2010 2:24 AM | Report abuse

By singling out 'a supporter', Paul is very clearly in damage control mode. The video makes it clear that it required two Paul supporters to pull this woman to the ground and hold her there while the third stomped her head. The real issue here--the issue Paul is trying to get us to overlook--is the mob nature of the assault.
