Woman attacked by Rand Paul supporters has concussion, sprained arm, MoveOn says

Okay, a quick update for you on the woman who was attacked and stepped on by Rand Paul supporters outside last night's Senate debate.

She has told MoveOn officials that she suffered a concussion and sprained shoulder and arm, a MoveOn spokesperson confirms.

The woman, Lauren Valle of MoveOn, had approached Paul and tried to give him an "employee of the month" award from a fake company called Republicorp, when Paul supporters dragged her to the ground and stepped on her head and shoulder.

Ilyse Hogue, a spokesperson for MoveOn, says she spoke with Valle this morning, and that Valle confirmed the injuries to her. She has been released from the hospital, Hogue said.

Paul's campaign released a statement last night denouncing the episode as "incredibly unfortunate," claiming that "violence of any kind has no place in our civil discourse" and adding: "We are relieved to hear that the woman in question was not injured."

Meanwhile, TPM has posted new video footage of the altercation:

UPDATE, 2:08 p.m.: The Paul campaign releases a new statement condemning the incident.

How do you KNOW they were Rand Paul supporters? Maybe they were DEM "thugs" trying to make Rand Paul look bad? Even if they weren't, maybe you guys can finally condemn the following assault then now too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znXHJQSX78o

Kenneth Gladney was also attacked by a pack of SEIU thugs for simply selling Gasden flags -- some Dem bit the finger off an anti-Obamacare supporter in California -- and we’ve already had one incident of a Dem operative posing as a Rand Paul supporter and making odious racist comments solely for the cameras.

So, until and unless I see a police report on this alleged assault, I’m not taking these charges at face value.

Greg

Why didn't you read the response from the US Chamber of Commerce last week?

Because contained in that response is a LINK to a Washington Post article which specifically outlines the $500 Billion which Obama took from Medicare and put in his health care plan.

This was WELL KNOWN last winter and spring. It was one of the few parts of the health care legislation which was in the public eye.

I really am dimayed that FIRST, you don't appear to KNOW that from the health care debate last winter. YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT.

And then, the response from the US Chamber of Commerce - linking articles from the Washington Post. Meanwhile, you REFUSE to state that Obama said one thing about Afghanistan in 2008, and almost immediately upon taking office SECRETLY changed his position and started pressuring the Pentagon to take a differenct direction.

Why don't you concentrate on that DISTORTION AND FALSEHOOD?

That is about a war.

-GOP Senate Candidate Ken Buck: ‘I Disagree Strongly With The Concept Of Separation Of Church And State’-

"I disagree strongly with the concept of separation of church and state. It was not written into the Constitution. While we have a Constitution that is very strong in the sense that we are not gonna have a religion that’s sanctioned by the government, it doesn’t mean that we need to have a separation between government and religion."

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/10/26/buck-church-state/

Why does Ken Buck hate America?

Maybe he thinks that since Lady Liberty is a woman, and since he thinks that women are inferior to men, it is okay to violate her.

This is the quote from the Washington Post

By Lori Montgomery
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, November 15, 2009

"A plan to slash more than $500 billion from future Medicare spending -- one of the biggest sources of funding for President Obama's proposed overhaul of the nation's health-care system -- would sharply reduce benefits for some senior citizens and could jeopardize access to care for millions of others, according to a government evaluation released Saturday.

The report, requested by House Republicans, found that Medicare cuts contained in the health package approved by the House on Nov. 7 are likely to prove so costly to hospitals and nursing homes that they could stop taking Medicare altogether. "

_______________________________

It is clear that hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars were taken out of Medicare in an effort to make the accounting of Obama's health care bill APPEAR "paid for."

There was a "fact-checking" group in 2008 which was found to be funded by the Obama people, by the way.

Just a bunch of liars saying that some other lies are true.

The reason I asked whether the woman's head is on the curb and the rest of her body on the pavement, is that stepping on someone's neck (in this position) can break their neck and kill them. This has actually been shown in at least one movie.

Sherelle Roberts, a public information officer for the Lexington division of police tells TPM that investigators have made no arrests and filed no charges in the case. But because the incident was caught on camera, officers are optimistic that a breakthrough is imminent.

"I think we're probably going to come up with something later today," Roberts said, adding that tips have been coming in literally from around the country about who the suspects in the attack might be. "Because it was captured on video, we have a good idea what happened [and] at this point there doesn't seem to be anything to justify how this incident unfolded."

I, a die hard, life long democrat, was going to post how I wished her luck and how sad it was that she had to be in the hospital.
Reading the comments on here, I see the rightwing has zero class or human compassion.
A woman was beaten and her head stomped on.
Instead of expressing concern or anything with little humanity to it, you get the usual rightwing thug nastiness and crudeness.
And that is the difference between the left and the right.
the left feels compassion for others and sees others as simple human beings.
They express concern.
the rightwing dehumanizes everyone and feels nothing for others and only cares about themselves and money. As long as it is not them personally, they feel nothing. their only feelings are hate and rage.
Ugliness.
And it goes to why they are so hateful and unhappy. Because they care for no one but self and hate others. They look for reasons to dump their own ugliness towards others.
Maybe if they tried to care about other people, feel compassion and tried to show a bit of class they would not be so miserable and then try to infect others with that misery
the right is simply pathetic

The overwhelming evidence seems to be that MoreOn.Org readily admits it had directed one of its operatives from Washington DC, masquerading in a blond wig and carrying a Ron Paul placard as part of her disguise, to go to the Kentucky Debate for the purpose of provoking an incident of some sort at the Debate or while the candidates were coming or going, all apparently within the close view of the TV cameras and this was accomplished with the aid of some others also appearing to be Paul supporters who were close to her, and one of whom appears to have held her and lowered her to the ground and another is seen to prod her on the shoulder with one foot while standing upright on his other foot. And Ms. Valle, was able to give a clear and concise interview with no scrapes or apparent injuries , except the loss of her wig, immediately after the incident, but now has sprains and concussions and Conway is quick to point out this is all part of some feeling of misogyny on the part of Paul, all just a week before the election. Excuse me if I don’t buy it.

Stomping on a cross is the same as stomping on someone's neck? Talk about false equavalency. Why is it Jake you always put quotation marks around the word "assault" at the Paul incident. The video is quite clear, it's an assault.
When is the Right going to get out of denial and admit that the authoritarian personality is more prone to violence than the Left?

There's nothing wrong with stomping on someone's head if they disagree with your views.
The Brown Shirts did the same thing in Nazi Germany.
It's just another way of expressing your freedom of speech.
You liberal left wingers are getting all upset about a little head bashing.
This is politics. Its like war. It gets a little rough and if you can't handle it...stay away from the polls

If you watch the video you'll notice the goon who's kicking and stomping on her head is wearing a Rand Paul T-Shirt. I doubt if a liberal would do that. Abuse of women is perfectly Okay with Rand Paul.
GET OVER IT!

sigh, I fear it's a waste of time but on the positive side maybe this thread will 404. Leaf, the medicare cuts you talk about were part of a house bill, not the senate bill and not the law that was passed. It is just false to say 500b was taken from Medicare. Find an impartial analysis of the LAW and report back. I'll give you a hint, I'm paying for it not your parents. Jake, God will judge for stomping a cross, perhaps reimbursement of costs are in order. For stomping a head- jail.

A woman getting beat up at a political event is not "incredibly unfortunate" - it's more "entirely unacceptable" or "condemnable" ... "incredibly unfortunate" is spilling red wine on white clothing or missing the bus and having to wait fifteen minutes in the cold.

Nice to see Mr. Paul's got his values in check.

From Rand Paul:
"Whatever the perceived provocation, any level of aggression or violence is deplorable, and will not be tolerated by our campaign. The Paul campaign has disassociated itself from the volunteer who took part in this incident, and once again urges all activists -- on both sides -- to remember that their political passions should never manifest themselves in physical altercations of any kind."

The plot thickens. The outrageous aggression perpetrated on a woman in Lexington is fruit of the poison tree talk of a Second Amendment "option", i.e., resorting to clearly illegal physical violence when things aren't going your way.
Is this violence in Lexington an unintended consequence? Not really. It is an obvious and expected consequence from talk of trashing the Constitution, i.e., the law of the land. Words do matter.

John1263:

Rand Paul didn't say that (Rush Limbaugh did). Should we jail these bums too?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znXHJQSX78o

AHermit:

I'm not sure about it being an Academy Award-winning performance, but maybe Ms. Valle is faking her injuries too?

filmnoia (and Octavius1):

The reason I use quotation marks is because only a judge / jury can pronounce a sentence for that. The "assault" in Palm Springs was not stomping on a cross (assaults can also only be against human beings ; )

libertyanne:

If YOU watch the video, the woman was wearing a wig and carrying a sign for Rand Paul too, disguised as a Rand Paul supporter (what were you saying about "I doubt if a liberal would do that"?). As I noted above, such a disguise was used once before in an attempt to blame Rand Paul for racist slogans.

One stupid idiot steps on a woman....

Rand Paul was right when he apologized and disowned this idiot.

Watching this episode one is reminded of those grainy black and white films that show the early days of the Nazis.

Yes, that would have to be a supporter of Rand Paul, carrying a sign "for Rand Paul too" that says "Rand Paul . . . RepubliCorp Employee of the Month."

Is this the same lady chaining herself to CITI in a coal protest which Jack supports? Or was she protesting Obama's vote for the bankers' bailout which profited CITI?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPCZFDWdn_k#t=0m41s

This is the same woman who was booked with unauthorized entry of a critical infrastructure and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling on May 10th.

Greg, Thank you for bringing this outstanding professional protester to our attention.

In both the release and in Paul's statement, there was the ridiculous "ON BOTH SIDES" equivocation.

You don't condemn violence "on both sides" when only one side is being violent.

APNewsBreak: Paul Volunteer Apologizes for Scuffle

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A volunteer with Rand Paul's Republican U.S. Senate campaign apologized Tuesday for stepping on the head of a liberal activist who tried to confront the tea party candidate with a fake award.

Leah: the cuts to Medicare were to bad debt reimbursement to hospitals, not to benefits. The American Hospital Association AGREED to the cuts if the insurance mandates could deliver 32 million or so more insured people who would pay their bills instead of becoming bad debt accounts.

I know this because I listened to the chief lobbyist for the hospitals tell the Tennessee Hospital Association this when he came to Nashville to update us on health reform prospects just before the vote. I know that's what the bill does because I am a health care attorney who gets paid to advice health care clients on its contents and I have read every word of it.

no accounting gimmick, no cuts in benefits, no cuts in reimbursement rates themselves. just a trade of bad debt supplemental payments for less bad debts that get passed on to the rest of us to boot.

I thought Paulbot's didn't believe in government intervention. But now this guy is saying it's the cops' fault for not stopping him from stepping on the woman's head.

Not saying the left isn't nut's too. Peanut to a Walnut, but lets call a nut a nut. Let's give the Tea Party and MoveOn.Org Montana and make them live together. The nuts that are already there can stay. Very shortly Scott Brown and Joe Lieberman will be running the Federal Government, welcome it.

This is just how it started in Germany under Hitler. How much longer before we have our own version of Kristallnacht? 7 to 10 days I think, maybe sooner. Only this time, it won't be just the Jews as targets, it will be Liberals, Homosexuals, Muslims, and other 'non-Americans".

I am truly frightened beyond the capability for rational thought. I have no country to live in anymore.
