Beck earns $13 million from publishing

Is Glenn Beck in it for the money?

A new Forbes magazine article reveals how lucrative Glenn Beck’s inflammatory politics are – and how politics may not even be his first love.

As the piece, notes: “With a deadpan, Beck insists that he is not political: ‘I could give a flying crap about the political process.’ Making money, on the other hand, is to be taken very seriously, and controversy is its own coinage.”

His books provide a good chunk of the income. Of the $32 million Beck swept in over the 12 months ended March 1, $13 million came from print, meaning his books and his magazine.

Here’s how the numbers break down:

Total revenue: $32 million
Print: $13 million
Radio: $10 million
Digital: $4 million
Speaking and events: $3 million
Television: $2 million

Glenn Beck doesn't work for free? I'm shocked! Just like the police chief from Casablanca.

$10M from radio and $2M from TV?? Those numbers seem almost backwards. I suspect that TV amount will go up pretty quickly.

Posted by: canderson1 | April 8, 2010 4:31 PM | Report abuse

Beck makes $32M py just for ignorantly
spouting his mouth?

I have spent almost 30 years in universities, received a PhD, and now receive just a little bit above $50 kya with no opportunity for tenure (can you say penury).

Glenn Beck is a jerk.

I do not see why you should be upset. Someone has to earn money for Obama's tax and spend programs.

I think it is not the amount of money he makes rather that he has an audience who listens to him and reads his books.

Eduction is a wonderful thing is it not? Except when the facts learned do not mesh with the agenda the Washington Post and White House.

Has the Washington Post gone back over some of it's own articles to note the inflammatory political comments it has issued?

You have no high moral ground on this one. In fact the following old statement could apply.
You are pea green with envy.

Please be sure to turn in your pay check over to a charity this week, as writing for a living appears to sully your hands. You will then be able to walk the talk you talk.

See you at the voting booth this November.

Yes, we do live in a free society where you can make as much money has possible. Yet when we use hate and misdirection it’s wrong. By the way, “Education” is a wonderful thing and some here should try and use it. What is the general hatred of President Obama? You talk inflammatory political comments coming from the Washington Post? It’s a newspaper!!! I look forward to the November.

Is Obama in it for the money? Or just for the power of far-left dictatorship?

Posted by: kypriotis | April 8, 2010 5:05 PM | Report abuse

Glenn Beck is a lying traitor. He'd sell his soul for a dollar, if he could.

Fleecing the flock of ignorant right-wing yokels. Very lucratively. Rush knows all about it. Sara's just getting into the swing. If you're going to spout paranoia and nonsense, you might as well make hay while the sun shines.

Posted by: CopyKinetics | April 8, 2010 5:19 PM | Report abuse

TV is only worth about 7% of his income?

So the point is, if his Fox show were to be struck down, he'd become far more powerful then we could ever imagine?

Posted by: Bailers | April 8, 2010 5:20 PM | Report abuse

Pimps who rent out children for prostitution make a lot of money too.

It's fairly easy easy to cash in peddling hate, racism, and violence. Big audience out there.

Beck's on a level with a kiddie pimp.

So that makes Beck something of a socialist -- redistributing wealth (or money anyway) from the relatively poor, less educated white males (his 'constituency') to himself.

Self interested spewers have quite a history (and not just in this country).

This isn't new stuff. The Beck, Limbaugh, Palin types are doing with political flimflamming pretty much what too many televangelists have been doing for years. Beck demonstrates the short distance from televangelist and televengefulist. Not all of them believe what they spew (or walk the talk for that matter), but many of them are very willing to rake in the bucks.

The cool thing about guys like Beck, Hannity and other FOXNEWS personality is that they tell everyone how popular their shows are. It makes viewer feel comfortable about watching the right shows.

The only thing in this realm I can thunk about that's cooler is when a personal acquaintance tell me how popular they are.

The sad part about this information, is that he has a following of American citizens who cling to his every word and actually believes that crap he says. Some of these same people are now going to jail became of the rage he has instilled in them. ACORN a company dedicated to helping the poor people in this country shut down because of the inflammatory statements he made on his TV show.
Now the poor people have no voice, so who is going to pay them for the injury they are receiving.

Glen Beck is a liar and needs to be held accountable for his willful actions and mean spirited statements he makes during his program.

ACORN I hope that you'll file a lawsuit against Glen Beck for all the damage he has done to your company.

and he pays Social Security FICA taxes ONLY on the first $106,900.

When he retires, no, when he hits eligibility age, he will draw the maximum amount.

What's wrong with this picture?

Wow Al Gore has made 100 million selling you little wee-nee's fake climate warming..How much for Bill Clinton on his Global Warming? oh yeah Hillary won't release that..How much do movie stars make lets say Matt Damnon and his anti-american Rhetoric? GROW UP! If you don't like him turn off the TV station..don't buy his books, switch his radio program, it isn't his fault you chose to be nothing more than you are. Jayzee & Beyonce make 10 times that should you take it away from them too? You petty jealous people. Took the wrong career path, eh? See, spouting right wing drivel over the airwaves does pay better than spouting left wing drivel in a university setting. Hey, it might not be too late for you. Perhaps you could investigate Air America and see if they’re hiring - - or run for congress?

Our Glenn, so red-cheeked and so happy
Likes shocking folks and acting scrappy.
Eyes a-glitter, smile so bright,
Much loved by the Religious Right.

But, of things political, his rap is that
he doesn't "give a crap"
About anything but making money.
There's Glenn, again,
Just being funny.

I am not a rascist but American was founed by white Christian people and when people who have goals completely destructive to the founders illegatimately come to power you can only expect that we will defend it. Glenn Beck tell the truth but the liberal media try to make it sound like just enterainmnet

Glen Beck informs the viewers with facts and does give his opinions which are closely related to many economic analysts. Fortunately, people are starting to pay attention to the abuses of government. Glen Beck does give millions to charity, and is entitled to make money just like anyone else. It is a shame that there are people out there who would love to shut him down, quiet his voice. These are probably the same people who enjoy sharing their own opinion. Free speech is afforded to all Americans right now, but with the future of government control, it is not clear how much longer this will last. I believe that Acorn was corrupt, and too many people as it is have their hands out looking for something for free. There is nothing for free in this world, it is paid for by hard working people. The more control the government has on the people and makes them dependent, the less freedoms will be afforded.
Many people in this country make money by hard work, those who critize have the same opportunities if so motivated. I too am educated and can clearly see the direction the country is headed, socialism. More people should be looking at what is happening, unconstitutional events. Anyone who actually reads the basic premises of our Constitution would agree that we are in danger of loosing what it means to be American. If you are in favor of loosing rights, higher taxes, more control, so be it.
Even Greenspan warned yesterday that if the numbers presented are wrong, the consequenses would be severe. Let me ask this, since when have estimated numbers ever been accurate when generated by the government? NEVER.

Americans know that the Propaganda Monster is about to bust. How dare anyone not conform to the liberal and biased media?

The American people must be programmed and controlled! Whatever........you are boring.

That is why we should have a top tax rate of 70% over 2-3 millions like we had before Reagan. But you can always trust congress to raise tax on the middle class instead on the really rich..

The worst part will be to listen to his followers spin his outright honesty into some fantasy where he isn't gaming them for cash.

Actually, just wait for Glenn to tell then how to spin it. The echo chamber will take care of the rest.

Posted by: trident420 | April 8, 2010 9:31 PM | Report abuse

How much Glen Beck earns doesn't really matter to me. He "worked" for, so he "deserves" it. How he earns his money, on the other hand, is crappy. His presentation is pure vitriolic conservative spin, but he has the freedom, the vehicles, and the money to say what he has to say.
What I do think the bigger issue is that people listen to him without question, check facts, and refuse to listen to the "big bad liberal press". I don't like nor agree with Glen Beck, but I watch him. I don't like nor agree with Keith Oberman, but I watch him as well. But I think it's dumb, in general, to only listen to one side and think you know the truth.
The media is owned by rich powerful people, whatever color they may be, that have an agenda. Politicians, whether it's Sarah Palin or Nancy Pelosi, have their agendas and they are ALL powerful people looking to 1) maintain their power and 2) achieve more power.
I don't understand why people think that by picking a side, that 1) any of these people, the Glen Becks and the Rachel Madows or any politician for that matter, really have YOUR interest in heart when they're giving you spin about the news from the perspective of their politics and need to maintain their power and wealth and 2) that the news is telling the full truth on any issue. We see snap shots, edited footage, and opinions when we hear the news (like the "real" news that comes on at 10 and 11, not the opinion like Beck and Oberman).
If we are putting so much faith in these people to tell us how it is we are not only lazy we are also fools looking for a leader and truth from that leader when we, the tax payers and denizens of this fine country, that need to start controlling the government and how we're being taxed and understanding the full scope of the "news". You don't need Glen Beck nor Keith Oberman to tell how it is. If you do, you have a lot more problems than this economy.

Beck is selling out the country to line his pockets.

"I could give a flying crap about the political process.’ Making money, on the other hand, is to be taken very seriously, and controversy is its own coinage.”

He doesn't believe a word of that crap he spouts and draws on his blackboard. It's all about the money and if he sows some conspiracy theories and instills fear, well that just means more money.

Any new revelations in this, as though Beck were anything but a cynical buck-hustler? He was languishing in relative obscurity on CNN, then he moved to Fox, ramped up the voltage of his grating personality, took it over the top into looney territory, and voila! he bacame an American media icon/celebrity (i.e., rich guy with no real significance). Others have been playing this game for some time now, the most transparent being Ann Coulter, who seems barely able to hide her contempt for the intelligence of her readership with the moer-and-more outlandish junk she spouts. Yep, they've made some righteous bucks. So did Hugh Hefner and Larry Flynt.

We must remember respect is important. Communication is about delivering your point of view not just getting something off your chest. What good communication that is delivered with anger and hat? What are we gaining from these exchanges of information? If Glenn Beck and other Republicans want change compromise is how it’s accomplished. To just want your way is wrong. The impact to all levels of people must be considered. There are too many people in the world to only view things from your perspective. Besides this is a country of majority rule. The majority spoke when they elected Obama. The Republican party is not accepting defect and they are using the old school buddy system gain support. The behavior of the members of this movement is setting a example for the children and to the rest of the world. We are behaving like uncivilized people, acting out our emotions in public. We have dysfunctional leads in public office and that’s not only shameful, but it’s running good leader out of office. The whole thing is ugly. This is not good. We are all going to pay for the actions of this hat movement. It’s very unfortunate that hat motivates more than reason.

Just swap out the name "Glenn Beck" for "Keith Olbermann" and "Chris Matthews," and these comments will be right on the money! I find it laughable that people slam on Beck, yet fail to mention those other delusional narcissists Olbermann and Matthews on the Obama cable network MSNBC. Talk about spewing filth, fear, and hate.
