Jewish group condemns Gingrich for comparing Obama's policies to the Nazi and Soviet threats

Say What

By Stephen Lowman

The American Jewish Committee has called on the GOP to condemn a statement in Newt Gingrich's new book that says the Obama White House is as big a danger to the United States as were Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

In “To Save America: Stopping Obama’s Secular-Socialist Machine,” Gingrich argues that the president has pursued a socialist agenda with legislation such as healthcare reform and economic stimulus. He sees the United States facing a “mortal threat” from what he views as a massive expansion of state control over individual freedoms.

Obama’s policy agenda is as "great a threat to America as Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union," writes the former Republican Speaker of the House.

The AJC called the comparison inappropriate. "By invoking the current Administration in the same breath as two murderous totalitarian states, Newt Gingrich has drawn a foolish and dangerous analogy," David Harris, executive director of the AJC, said in a statement yesterday. "Gingrich's linkage not only diminishes the horror of the Holocaust, it also licenses the use of extremist language in contemporary America."

Gingrich appeared on “Fox News Sunday” this weekend, where host Chris Wallace asked him if the comparison was not “wildly over the top.”

GINGRICH: No, not if by America you mean the historic contract we've had which says your rights come from your creator, they're unalienable, you're allowed to pursue happiness. I mean, just listen to President Obama’s language…

WALLACE: So — but you compare that to the Nazis and the Communists?

GINGRICH: I compare that as a threat, not in terms of the moral -- look, there is no comparison to Nazi Germany as a moral -- or, by the way, to Mao's China or the Soviet Union, all three of which were evil. But as a threat to our way of life, the degree to which the secular-socialist left represents a fundamental replacement of America, a very different world view, a very different outcome, I think is a very serious threat to our way of life.

Gingrich has said that he will decide by early next year if he will run for president in the 2012 election.

Newt should be ashamed of himself. He claims to be a historian and as such he should know better. Really all he is doing is pandering to a base that is scarily out of control. I imagine that the enemies of America reading the shocking diatribes coming from American conservatives can simply pass that information on to their followers and say see, this is why we have to hate America - they hate themselves. No one holds the far right media masters like Limbaugh, Hannity, Glenn Beck, Newt, Fox News accountable for anything they say.

Newt Gingrich has watered down the evilness of the Nazis and shown he will say and do anything to sell books. Anyone that listens to Gingrich is as dumb as Gingrich.

Hope he does run in 2012 so he can be thoroughly crushed. Maybe then the idiot media will stop giving him coverage.

I always wondered why nobody asked Newt about the cast of characters in his old Cobb County GA district. John Birchers, a school board who wanted to retry the Scopes Monkey trial. Back in 1996 the Cobb County Board passed a resolution declaring homosexuality incompatable with the community. For 40+ years they opposed sensible zoning and an adquate mass transit system, now they have some of the worst traffic and air quality in the U.S along with a high forclosure rate.

Tell us Newt who's out of step.

Newt has moral standing to pass a judgment on anyone. He’s corrupt. He’s immoral. He’s devoid of common decency. Talk to his multiple wives and mistresses to see his moral standing.

I'm looking forward to both Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin competing for the GOP nomination in 2012.

Gingrich should know better; however he now has to pander to the base of the right wing. Funny just how base this base is!

Of course, I remember when this organization protested Pete Stark when he compared Republicans to Nazis... or when Robert Byrd did so... or when...

I think the AJC would be best served to have a standard statement condemning the statements of anyone who compares anyone to Nazis... unless they are self-proclaimed Nazis. And then just track the usage (from both parties to avoid the appearance of bias) and put it on the web and release an annual report (perhaps on Kristallnacht). I think such an historical record of idiots would be most helpful.

Only someone in Maryland or DC could care what the AJC says who are so irrelevant and certainly inaccurate as usual. Russian Academy of Science admitted in 1992 that they had trained a Barack Obama as a communist and atheist whom Americans will fall in love with. Obama was in daily contact with Raila Odinga trying to seize power in Kenya with Muslim help. He helped institute rioting by Muslims resulting in Christian churches being burnt down and many Christians killed all supported by Obama who gave Odinga $1 million. Now Obama has a whole nation to work on. Scary but AJC wiould probably approve anything their messiah does.

Thank god for the Internet. How else can you explain mascmen7's revelations about Obama? Next he'll be telling us about how true the revelations from the Elders of Zion are. Frightening.

In 1998, House Speaker Gingrich was telling anyone who'd listen that under his leadership, the GOP would pick up 6 Senate seats and anywhere from 12 to 20 House seats in the midterm election. When the dust settled, the GOP had lost 6 House seats and broke even in the Senate. Rather that have the Party sachems dissect his failed leadership, Gingrich resigned his own seat in chagrin.

And we're supposed to believe he's smarter now than he was 12 years ago? That's too much of a stretch for me.

If only Newt's high school had a football helmet that was big enough for him to wear on his fat head so he could of played on the team and been accepted as a teen. instead, he wasn't allowed to play and that bitterness still lingers within him today. Newt is now a mean old man full of hate and lies and desperate to get back at those who laughed and ridiculed him.
poor sad old man.

It is hard to make the case that a 36% top marginal tax rate, rather than our 34% rate is "socialism". Keep trying.

The Elders of Zion referred to above is a book entitled the Protocols of Zion which is a transcript of a World Jewish Congress meeting of 1896 A.D. in Basle, Switzerland. They decided that Jews should try to seize control of the press, courts, pharmacies, political parties, teacher unions, workers unions etc. and by 1917 November 7 they succeeded in gaining control of Russia as Bolshevism was a 90% Jewish/Hebrew operation. Now they control USA mass media almost totally. When will non-Hebrews ever wake up from their Rip Van Winkle sleep?

Let's see. Askgees hates liberals AND Jews. Mascmen7 refuses to believe the President was not born in Africa, and thinks the Protocols of the Elders of Zion was for real. Congratulations, Mr. Levingston; you've managed to draw the white supremacist readership out of the woodwork today.

Okay, so since the first version of this post didn't go through, let me reword: Only a {Massengill} like Gingrich would have the stones to state, to a Libertarian convention in New Hampshire no less, that perhaps we ought to rethink the First Amendment.

Perhaps he knows so much about fascism because he is one of them. I know you are, but what am I?

Glad that all the Right-Wing-Nuts are showing their true colors in time for this falls election. Newt is infamous for his infidelity, homophobia and now his anti-semetic rants, Paul for his racism, and Kook-coo-nelli for all for the above plus his opposition to science! All are examples gross intolerance and repression of anyone who is not a member of the "club"...white male anglo hetrosexual....

Newt used inflammatory to get attention. If he'd been reasonable, there'd be fewer articles about his book. He knows that policies of the current administration are not as much of a threat to "our way of life" as were Naziism and Communism, which wanted to conquer the U.S. He doesn't care if he diminishes the horrors of both. It is amazing that some posters imply that they actually believe that the Protocols of Zion was a real Jewish work (the work was shown to be an anti-semitic forgery years ago). I did get a kick from the assertion that Bolshevism was 90% (not 89, not 91) Jewish. I guess Stalin killed millions of them just to make the conspiracy more believable. Kind of scarey that bigotry like this still exists in America.

I support Newt's comments. The WAPO is in no position to criticize Newt. WAPO allows the most vile and racist Jew hatred in its comments pages. I support Jewish Jerusalem and Jewish Israel as does Newt. Obama does NOT support a Jewish Israel or a Jewish Jerusalem. Obama is campaigning against free speeh, for more government control over our bodies and he is clearly an islamist sypathizer. And the Islamist are just as bad as the Nazis.

Curiously the far-right blames an "erosion" of individual rights on Democrats while simulataneously supporting government involvement in the sexual affairs of consenting adults and a vast expanion of government power in the form of the Patriot Act. I guess individual rights for sexual minorities, non-whites and non-Christians are a pesky detail that can be easily overlooked.

By accusing the President of simultaneously being a fascist and a communist, Newt Gingrich is either the dumbest politician on earth or a deliberate liar. Any political scientist will tell you that Communism and fascism are at opposite ends of the political spectrum. Pretty darned hard to be both.

I vote for "biggest liar" (although Mr. Beck, Mr. Limbaugh, Mr. O'Reilly and Ms. Palin give him a run for the money). What's fascinating is that Mr. Gingrich's allies on the radical right are engaging in the same tactics that the Nazi's did in the late 1920s and early 1930s. In Texas they're rewriting the history textbooks to suit their perversion of American history and to brainwash school children. In Arizona they've adopted immigration laws and prohibited teaching Mexican-American history as part of their efforts to marginalize illegal immigrants (well, actually just Americans of Mexican extraction). That's exactly how the Nazis got started in their eventual effort to eliminate all Jewish people. That's how it starts. Hopefully the American public will see through the radical right's deception and will never forget.

I was astounded to read the ideas on Newt and his comparisions. Then I realized that this was the Washington Post-one of the most liberal newspapers in existence. I think alot is not being considered in this article. One-Woody Allen and Chris Matthews wants Obama to take his rightful
place as Dictator and force public thought
and bills against the 99% of Polls and the American people. This religious ideaology,
extreme as it may seem, is exactly why many people, not just Newt Gingrich, are starting to see that the Democrats have become Facists-striving to influence by force-government issue. You can blame Newt all you want, but you had better reread the polls-like 99% of the polls-especially
Rasmussen's report on the daily presidential tracking. Yesterday the poll was a negative 19 and today a little better= -16. The American people are not stupid like all of you elite snobs may think-so. The statements by Newt-very well understood and accepted by the majority of the US people, get with reality, or go back and stick your head in the sand.

This is about way more than selling books. Labeling liberals as "secular socialists" and then comparing them to Nazi Germany will be music to the ears of the Tea Party extreemists. This is Newt's way of saying "I hear you."

He's now free to back peddel all he wants but the basic message is now out there - and he's telling the noisy fringe what they want to hear.
