At 8:30 a.m. -- The Commerce Department releases retail sales for February. Economists are expecting a solid uptick of 1 percent, after a 0.3 percent rise in January.

At 10 a.m. -- The Commerce Department releases data on business inventories for January.

At 10 a.m. -- The House Financial Services subcommittee on capital markets holds a hearing on covered bonds.

At 11:15 a.m. -- President Obama holds a news conference about rising energy prices among other issues.
