Sensitivity Police Strike
National Public Radio commentator Juan Williams – a minority journalist who has written extensively on the civil rights movement – was terminated by the news outlet Wednesday after having the audacity to verbalize something that the vast majority of Americans are thinking.
In an appearance on FOX News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday, Williams told the show’s host Bill O’Reilly that he gets nervous when he’s on airplanes with people dressed in Muslim garb.
“I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot,” Williams said. “You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”
NPR – one of America’s leading liberal voices – said that Williams’ comments were “inconsistent with our editorial standards.”
