Indian Giving At UConn

7:55 PM ET, 01/25/2011

A major donor at the University of Connecticut wants his money back …

How much money? $3 million … oh, and he also wants his family’s name removed from a football complex that his donations built.

Robert G. Burton, a Connecticut printing industry executive, says he was shut out of the selection process for the school’s new head football coach. He wanted the job to be offered to Steve Addazio, the former University of Florida offensive coordinator, but Connecticut ended up offering it to former Syracuse head coach Paul Pasqualoni.

Burton gave the money for the facility that bears his family’s name in 2002. Now he’s lawyering up in an effort to get his money back and his name scrubbed from the building.

“We want our money and respect back,” he wrote to the school’s athletics director Jeff Hathaway, who he proceeded to lambaste as “not qualified to be a Division I AD.”

Here’s the five-page nastygram Burton sent to the UConn athletics department if you care to read it …
