iPod vs. Zune Review Database

Here's what iPod and Zune owners have to say about their mp3 devices, as culled from comments to Post I.T. Perhaps their experience can help you make a shopping decision. I've weeded out the obvious plants from Microsoft and Apple marketers, pimping their products and bashing the others, but there's no guarantee I got them all. These read like unalloyed, and useful, reader reviews. The time references, such as "yesterday," refer to the period around the Zune's release in November.

iPod owners:

* I've got a 30G video ipod (I guess that's fifth-generation). Had it about a year; it works fine. Never had a problem. I've got plenty of video on it, and I find the screen pretty easy to watch. I've never had any significant problem with iTunes -- the biggest problem I ever had was when they added album art, and the new version locked up when updating my album art -- several times. The ONLY feature on the Zune that interests me is the FM radio, and I've never understood why the iPod doesn't have it.

* The reason that the iPod has been able to penetrate the market is because the iPod is, by and large, a wonderful piece of electronics. It isn't perfect, but neither is much else in this world. I have two fourth-generation 40GB iPods, and I'm not willing to trade them in for anything else quite yet - certainly not for the Zune.

* I had an Ipod that I bought refurbed from apple, it died about 2 weeks after I bought it, after arguing with thier customer service they replaced it with a new one. I am very satisfied with it and even bought a Sony car stereo with an Ipod interface. I use it mostly in my car through the interface.

* Count me as another happy iPod user. I've got a 2nd Gen 10 Gig (that I'm constantly juggling songs on when I find new stuff that I need to shoehorn onto it). Other than it getting a little flaky when I loaded a Linux OS onto it a couple of years ago to play some games (I reinstalled the software and all was fine), and a battery that drains too quickly in cold weather (I've gotta get a car charger), it still works like a champ. Apple has added a few welcome software features since I've owned it as well, including a better shuffle option and podcast download support. But I'll buy a new one in a heartbeat when it dies so I can watch movies and TV shows (ripped and purchased from iTunes) and have a lot more songs in my pocket and car.

* I've had a iPOD Gen 3 for about 3 years now and it has been great. I've replaced the battery myself- no big deal you can get a replacement off ebay for $15.00. I've encountered no problems with the unit;nor have I had to replace it. My wife as a Nano and it holds up very well and sounds good. Don't use iTunes use EphPod to manage the transfer of music to/from your PC and IPod.

Zune owners:

* I bought a Zune yesterday from Wal-mart and I already started loving it. I owned two iPods for almost 3 years and I hated them. I had lot of problems with it. My first one went dead after one year. The second one I had to go through lot service calls to make it work. I spent almost $600 for the piece of crap for just three years. I think it is too much. I hope Zune will keep up to its hype. Even though I don't like some of its features, I still like it overall look and feel. Even I dropped it into the floor once and it worked like charm even after that.

* I got my Zune midnight on Nov. 14. Have been using it for a while and I have to say that it is a wonderful product. Yes, it's thicker than the iPod but it is not thick and clunky.

* I purchased a Zune yesterday, and I LOVE it. I am a wedding photographer, and the ability to carry around alot of photos to show brides is very nice. Also, the resolution and clarity of the display is perfect. Very crisp, colorful, and clean. Also video playback is very nice. The FM tuner's very way cool, especially since I like to listen to NPR. Also, the music library is very easy to use and very intuitive. The only current drawback is the Zune Marketplace store. Once they get that going, it will be able to completely compete with the iPod.

* My daughter bought a Zune yesterday. She said she had a hard time deciding whether to buy the iPod 30gig or the Zune. She had been holding out for Zune. When she bought it, she said she didn't like it. She said she thought was "clunky" and "ugly" compared to her friend's iPod 30g. She returned the Zune within four hours of purchasing it, in exchange for the iPod, which she appears to be happy with.

* I got my Zune on Nov. 14th and it's my first mp3 player. I have had no problems with my Zune thus far. Everything installed and worked flawlessly. And despite being slightly larger and heavier than the iPod, it still fits everywhere I've put it and my legs don't feel any extra strain when carrying it. The difference is insignificant. Overall, my experience with it thus far has been positive. My only nitpicks are that the PC software is not very intuitive and should have been integrated with WMP. The player itself is great.

And from owners of other mp3 players:

* Just switched my wife from iTunes/iPod to a Sandisk with Rhapsody. Not only is it totally easy to use, but I'm saving so much money now! She used to buy a few albums a week from iTunes and listen to them once or twice, now we pay $15 a month and she can drag and drop anything she wants to.
Plus it has a radio and plays videos. She loves it and it's cheaper all around.

* Ho hum... tired of all the hype. Itunes? Zune? over-rated hyperbole as far as I can see.... I prefer simple little players like my Creative Zen (straps to my wrist, has an FM tuner, and records off the air) and my RCA Lyra (holds 4 gigs, all that I need, for less than $50, and is super-thin)... if I want music, I still buy the CD's and rip to high quality mp3's... hate services with their special licenses, lack of backup, rip-off policies, bloated software, low-res mp3's... all of my players plug into some nice thin-film amplified speakers... what more do I need?

Picked up the Zune a few weeks ago, just got around to opening it...WOW!
One of my kids has an ipod, the other a zune. Zune wins, also a radio, syncs to xbox (kids love that) + other features. The zunemarketplace is terrific...great time to be in the music business.
Merry Christmas.

After reading the comments above, I really appreciate the technology of an MP3 players, and my choice has been the Ipod. I have a 2nd generation and a 5th gerneration Ipod and the only problems I've come across is how random is random. I have about 4,000 songs in 1 of my Ipods, and on a shuffle, it seems to keep coming back to the album of the songs just played. But I am pretty happy with the product and it's capabilities.

zune sucks

Posted by: Anonymous | December 25, 2006 12:43 PM

Got a Zune for Christmas seemed nice until I found out that I was going to need to spend $100.00 to upgrade my system from XP Media 2002 to XP Media 2005. It will be going back tomarrow. I think it is pretty sorry to set people up like that.

Posted by: James | December 25, 2006 1:31 PM

We purchased a Zune for Christmas and love it. Not being a techie, it took me a while to learn to rip CD's, but it is working great. The FM radio feature is great too. I am having some difficulty with the software and have had to reboot the computer several times to access the internet after using the Zune software.

Posted by: Marty | December 25, 2006 1:48 PM

I recieved a 30 gig iPod for Christmas 2005 and loved it, for about a week. For some reason, after being fully charged, it would freeze up and then drain all the battery. So I called Apple support and they told me to reset it. After I had done that it worked fine for about another week. Sick and tired of having to reset a $300 iPod weekly, I called Apple support again and they told me I could send it in and they would test it out to see if it needed a new battery and if it did they would replce it. I was fine with that until they told me I would have to pay for shipping!!! Whats up with that? Finally, for an early 2006 christmas present, I bought a Zune and LOVE IT! I've had it for about a month and have had no problems! I found the software easy to install and I love how it automatically transferred all the songs on my computer into a new playlist! This product is wonderful and I would highly recommend it! Everyone needs to stop bashing the Zune because its "too big". People seem to be comparing the 30 gig Zune and iPod and their main complaint seems to be that the Zune is much bigger than the iPod but if your buying a 30 gig iPod or Zune, your not really looking at size because they're both big! Oh and James, I don't understand why you would have to upgrade your system... I know plenty of people with XP Media 2002 and their Zune works fine!

I recieved the oylmupus m:robe for christmas and i hated it. It froze up all the time. Now i got the zune it is very nice lots of memory and nice pic quality and even tho its big its still nice

I bought a ZUNE for a 40th birthday - gift to myself. This is my first ever mp3 player. I have wanted an mp3 player for a very long time and with my passion for music & technology, I am still wondering why I did not get one way back. I went with the Zune primarily because of the built in FM radio, overall size. I like the chuncky thick heavy feel compared to the thin gonna break if I sneeze on it iPod. Second...I am a loyal MS drone...LOL. ;)

Zue is reallii kewl i promise to everone. Its beter then an iPod bc it has a radio and everything u can also view pictures and sure it costs a lot but its completely worth it =] dont wait until its sold out!! get it now !!!

i just got a zune today for christmas and had trouble downloading the software to my laptop but i think its becasue the hardrive is about to go but anyways once i took it to my pc it only took a matter of about 20 min to download the software and then once i did that i had to download the new firmware but thats no biggy and then i spent some time fooling around with the software but the thing i found intersting is that after i downloaded the software and launched it my library from windows media player was already on there and therfore making it realy easy to sync the music to the device ive listend to the device all day after charging it for about two and a half hours and i love it though i might upgrade the headphones to bose but thats just a personal preferance the thing is a little chunky but its just more to love and the only problem i have so far is that zune market place doesnt have any videos for it yet i know there in the process of putting them on there but i mean hurry up u launched it on Nov 14 cant they help us out with at least a little videos alright last and final thing i know this is kinda long but watever so the device is very loud and the loudness will increase when u upgrade the headphones so im done lets give a hand for microsoft on another great product

I like the features of the Zune (FM tuner, larger screen) but I really wanted an under the cabinet unit (for the kitchen) to play songs from and I don't see one from Zune yet, so I may have to go with an ipod...

Posted by: Ann | December 25, 2006 3:48 PM

so ive decided what im goint to name my brand new baby zune. "chunky monkey." thanks mom and dad merry christmas.

I just got a Zune for Christmas today and like every1 else has said I LUV IT!!!!!! I have'nt tried the software yet but I'm anxious to see wut it's all about. Yeah, it is a little big and I had trouble choosing between the iPod and the Zune but once I found out that the Zune's upgradeability is better than the iPod's, I was sold.

Posted by: Michelle | December 25, 2006 4:46 PM

so yeah my friend got a zune 4 x mas and i am about to go get one in like 10 minutes i think that zune is amazing who gives a crap about how big it is as long as it is not as big as a car football god shut up so wut if the ipod is smaller that just means the zune is better more things are added to the zune just cause the ipod sucks and doesnt have half the picture quality of zune and better features as zune it is smaller so get off it it is just over all better and who ever says it sucks can die!!!!!:(

Posted by: jamie | December 25, 2006 4:59 PM

yeah so i just got a zune today for christmas... it took me only a few minutes to download the software to my laptop and i agree with some of these other people... who cares if the zune is bigger.. any ways its like not that much bigger at all... uh yeah... it has a bigger screen than the ipod.. therefore its better! mac lovers are just jealous... but i love my zune

Posted by: zune rocks | December 25, 2006 5:21 PM

well guys, I'm 20, a college student... Ive had an iPOD nano and an iPOD video. as other users have said here my iPOD froze a lot and the battery use to DRAIN ... it used to go sssooo quick but I still loved what it did for me. well today for christmas I got this box with this thing called zune in it. I had no clue what it was but I'm LOVING it! no freezes, battery lasts longer AND I can download all I want for just 15 a month which seems less than I was spending with my iPOD... I'm still not experienced enough to say which is better BUT I like my zune even if it is a lil bigger ... @ least it has some CUSHION to hold on to! :)

I got a Zune for Christmas. It is my first MP3 player. It is great. I liked the radio. I had some trouble with downloading the software, but after that it was good. All I had to do was update my software. It was easy to synch because it did it for you. I like it being thicker because I wanted an Ipod but I thought I might break it in half. But I really like the Zune.

Posted by: Marty | December 25, 2006 6:11 PM

I just got mine last night and it took forever for the program to load and then I wasn't clear if it was pulling all of the files from itunes or from my Windows Media. It just automatically started ripping all these music files, I didn't know how to stop it so I can pick and choose which files I wanted on the player. I was on it for three hours and when I took my player off the computer it had a crap load of videos on it. I'm not sure if I want to keep it or return it, but I'm having issues with getting use to it. We'll see if I figure it out. The resoulution and the videos came out really clear and I like that it has a radio player installed in it. I think htis was a better deal than an Ipod because of the radio and I also got the car kit included with it for 239 dollars at sams club.

I just got a Zune and I like everything about it but the Marketplace store. I seriously can't understand this store. There isn't even a search engine to type in an album then buy it. Plus when using iTunes you can download TV shows, music videos, and movies by typing them into the search engine then pressing the "buy episode" button. How do you do that on a Zune? If someone knows how to but TV shows or movies on a Zune please let me know.

Posted by: ACR | December 25, 2006 7:21 PM

I have had th zune for three days and i am amazed with it i have tryed almost every other mp3 player on the market and none comes close. If you are currently making the decision between the Zune and an Ipod i strongly reccomend th Zune

Posted by: Bobby | December 25, 2006 7:31 PM

I LOVE ZUNE, I GOT IT FOR CHRISTMAS AND ALREADY LOVIN IT, I CAN WATCH VIDEOS MOVIES AND CAN DOWNLOAD A WHOLE BUNCH OF PIC. SO I REALLY CANT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE HATE IT MAN 4 GET THE IPOD.ITS ALL BOUT DAT ZUNE. SO G2G PIECE AND I LOVE THE ZUNE. THE IPOD AINT GOT NOTHIN OFF IT.

Posted by: CHENICE RENECIA VESPRY | December 25, 2006 7:44 PM

I just got my Zune yesterday on Christmas eve, and I think I'm inlove. Before anyone says anything, I've owned a ipod nano & dell dj ditty beforehand. Even though it took longer then I liked for the software to download (20-30 minutes) I am very happy with the Zune overall. I really like how it automatically imported all my music-video-picture files, so I didn't have to go through all my folders. Though some people say it's really bulky, because it's bigger then the Ipod, it feels great in the palm of my hand. Another great thing about the Zune I will say how much easier it is to manuever through the zune then on the ipod. I've already put my entire music library and tons of videos on my Zune, and I still have more then enough space left, plus the video looks great (gotta love the 3 inch screen). I suggest that everyone get a Zune, because it really is a great player.

I really like the Zune. I had a 3rd gen iPod that I sold about 18 months ago. I just love the Zune's interface. I look forward to seeing how they expand on it's WiFi capabilities. Also, I want to know how it didn't get a calendar or more "settings" functions. It seems to be very basic in nature... which is both a strength and a weakness. Overall, I think my Zune is better that my friend's 30 GIG Video iPod.

WiFi + Big/Clear Screen + "fingerprint free body" + "wireless sharing" .... oh, and did I mention it has WiFi?

I hope to see Microsoft expand on the Zune brand and I hope that it takes full advantage of the hardware that the zune has packed in. If they maximize the software and services on the Zune like they have for the Xbox 360, it will succeed.

Posted by: Ed | December 25, 2006 10:03 PM

I just got a Zune yesterday from my uncle and i have to say it is great. My old ipod was freezing up all the time and the upload speed from my pc was horrible. I have to say Zune is Way better than the ipod. Give it up for Microsoft coming up with something that is (again) better than Apples.

Posted by: RePLaY | December 25, 2006 11:51 PM

I got my zune on christmas eve. And though it took a while to get the software downloaded due to me having Dial-Up I love it. iPod's are stupid. I mean look.

-They have a tiny screen
-Apple is a P.O.S.
-They die easy
-All the accesories are really expensive
-Hard for tech. challenged people to use
-And the scroll wheel is ridiculous

The Zune has everything. I have not looked at the marketplace yet, but when they get it all set up completely it will kill the iPod even more.

Zune Features:

-Huge Screen
-WiFi
-No Scroll wheel
-Cutomizable background
-Clear Resolution
-Easy to use software

I think hands down the zune kicks the Ipod's ass!

I got a Zune today for Christmas and I love it. I love the large screen, Wi-Fi, and FM radio that is missing from the Ipod product. I was really torn between an Ipod and Zune for the last few weeks. Ipod is a very mature product, Zune the newcomer was ofering more features for the same money. I finally told my wife I wanted the Zune and I am happy with my decision. Two reasons helped me make my decision:

1) Integration with my Xbox 360. I just plugged it in and it recognized my Zune. I already have playlists created in WMplayer that my Xbox 360 accesses on my PC, so using the Zune saved me from having to re-create a lot of that work in iTunes.

2) Bad experience with my previous 4GB Ipod Mini that I owned. I had it for about a year, first the battery went and had to be replaced, second the micro-drive failed a few months later which turned it into an expensive paperweight.

Overall, very happy with my decision to get a Zune!!

Posted by: OculusX | December 26, 2006 12:20 AM

Wow its amazing how absolutely everyone who got a zune for xmas managed to all come here to post. I guess microsoft must make them do that, because there is no way microsoft sold more than 50 of these cheapo paperweights this season - lol

Posted by: Amused | December 26, 2006 12:21 AM

Santa bought all 3 of my kids zunes for Christmas!!! wow!!!! Its great and super easy for them to work it!! The resolution is great....

We need the movie downloads on the market place and then we are golden!!!

Posted by: Cary | December 26, 2006 1:10 AM

If zune wee such a great item, would it nt have killed the ipod during christmas. My wife and I own ipods 30g video and have not had a problem to date. Yes I am very technology oriented but that is not an excuse. I frequent Best Buy at several locations and every rep i spoke with said they have a hard time selling Zune. Funny thing is the common sense factor that microsoft left out of the equation. THeir scroll wheel requires internal hardware movement not touch sensitive. Anyone that uses common snese would find that these type of controls wear out ad typically have a short lifespan. As for the fingerprint resistant casing i have found it humorous that people complain about this and then go buy cases to protect their product. MS missed the boat on this! Yes Ipod addons are expensive but isn't the Xbox 360 a little expensive lolol. I don't play games much except when my daugther wants to challenge me to Madden 2007 and see no need for an mp3 player to link to the xbox 360. Until MS shows a little more common sense and foresight for the wi-fi community apple seems to be on track.

Posted by: taz | December 26, 2006 1:21 AM

i just a got zune for christmas. As a teenager, i love the easy accessibility, though the long installation proccess took some patience, it is very worth it. Once its up and running, its very easy to use
p.s. thank you dad

Posted by: kenneth ALASKA | December 26, 2006 1:27 AM

Of all my friends, no-one I know got a Zune. Many don't even know it exists.

I'm equally suspicious of some of the Zune-lovin' messages above. The grammar & sentence structure is a little similar. Looks like Microsoft has one of their interns writing these messages! :)

Posted by: Alex | December 26, 2006 3:43 AM

This article and its comments are so full of plants you could start a garden shop with it. I've been keeping up with Zune news daily for two months now. Here there are far more positive Zune and negative iPod reviews than there are in the real world.

Posted by: Jack | December 26, 2006 6:34 AM

I love the Zune number 1 it is totally cool I just got 1 yesterday for a Christmas present and it rocks!!!!!!!!My dad downloaded all my fave songs on it they come out as clear as can be.I think people with Ipods should soooooooooo switch to the Zune!

Posted by: melanie | December 26, 2006 9:35 AM

Gotta agree with you, Jack - plenty of plants here. I guess Microsoft is trying out new marketing techniques to ramp up sales, too bad their plants sound like very poor imitations of teens - aka what adults think teens sound like.

Heh - Microsoft hire a good viral marketing agency so you don't look like complete idiots (try one of the ones the liquor industry uses).

Posted by: Rebecca | December 26, 2006 9:58 AM

Would you complain about having a 57" wide screen HD LCD TV and say I like my good ole 15" plasma. NO I don't think you would. The ZUNE is a great product and easy to use and yes it is larger than the IPOD but could the people complaining about the ZUNES size find something real to whine about other the the ZUNE has a LARGER easier to view screen then the IPOD...

Posted by: ZUNE THEA WIDE SCREEN IPOD KILLER | December 26, 2006 10:21 AM

I gave my daughter a Zune yesterday and when trying to install the software, it froze. She called support and was on hold for quite awhile. They told her to reset it, but that didn't work. They told her to let it "die" which means the battery will run out in about 10 hours. Here we are stuck waiting for it to die. My 3 sons and I have Ipods and we haven't had to let them "die" to get them going again. So...I'm not too happy that I spent $250 for a gift we haven't been able to enjoy yet...

Posted by: Mama | December 26, 2006 11:58 AM

I'm sorry "Mama". Sucks for u and ur daughter. But why in the world would you get yourself and your 3 sons iPods but give her a Zune. Common sense would tell u to stick wit the same product if ur happy wit it. Even if she wanted a Zune really bad, you should have put ur foot down and said "UR GETTIN AN IPOD". DUH!

Posted by: Mama, u stupid | December 26, 2006 12:50 PM

Hi,
I am only 12 and I just got my Zune for x-mas and I got all the songs I wanted on my Zune...But then I noticed that the zune doesn't really come with a manual that tells you how to do stuff! I managed to do everything but videos. Whenever I try to get some on it says that there is none and to click here. And when I do, it shows this thing where it has these codes and I tried putting a video on but, I just can't...

Please help!!
Jessica

P.S. Have a Merry Christmas!!

Got a Zune for Christmas (it was what I asked for), and I love it!!!! I am the anti-techi and it is super easy to use. I have an extensive CD library at home that is already ripped to my computer and I was able to pull it right into my zune. And I have to say the picture quality is way better than Any iPod I have seen out there. (and all my friends have iPods) Zune still has a little catching up to do with the market place compared to the iPod, but look how long iPod has been out. As far as the "bulkyness" of it, I don't mind, (I mean its not much bigger than my Razor phone) and I didn't get it for a pretty color or cause it was stylish and hip. I got it to listen to music and watch videos. No problems with it, and I have been playing with it non stop since I opened it with the exception of sleeping and taking a shower.

I really don't care about the Microsoft v.s Apple debate. Obviously the Marketing for both companies has worked great in creating brand loyalty with some of you folks out there, and to those who were willing to try out both products and give an oranges to oranges comparison, Thanks!! I probably would have gone with an iPod otherwise.

I just got a Zune for Christmas yesterday and I'm having problems already. The software won't install on my computer even though it meets all the requirements and then some. I've had to call the customer service more than five times and its still not working. On a good note it is a good product, I love how you can switch from your playlists to the radio in seconds. And even though its bigger than the iPod it has more capabilities.

Posted by: Symone | December 26, 2006 3:34 PM

Every single comment argues, or exclaims in complete love, over a few main points: 1-Who cares if zune is bulkier than iPod, 2-Love the 3 inch screen, 3-Online store kinda sucks, and 4-I Love my Zune, and iPod sucks. That's all opinionated crap that has know substantial backing, and will not push someone's decision from wither iPod or Zune. I got a mac computer, and all of my songs are on iTunes. From my experience, anything Mac is compatable pretty easily onto Windows. On the other hand, nothing Windows is compatable for Mac! Will a Zune even work with my computer, and if so, is it worth the hastle and change?

Posted by: Wonderer | December 26, 2006 3:59 PM

Forget iPod vs zune for just a minute...who has a pc that is p.c. crap because it is loaded with MS crap?...So far I've have four or five of them, they all suck! Now, who has an Apple computer that just works, and gives you no problems what so ever! Case closed! iPod wins! I trust Apple. Is the iPod perfect??? What is? I have had my 60 gig video for a year now, and my kids have nanos. My sons nano was draining the battery just recently (just shy of 1 yr old), I took it to the Apple store, they tested it, and gave me a new one...no problems, no arguing, no nothing, just a new nano that is working fine. I have bought a zune. I have had it for over a month and I adore it. I was debating over this and an ipod. The only problem I have with it is the marketplace. Once that is taken care of, this will kick ipods' rear!

Posted by: restricted_sections | December 26, 2006 5:35 PM

It will kick ipod's rear, as soon as they make it compatable for Mac.

I have an ipod.
I used to have a 300 MB mp3 player which was really simple to put music files on, and my boyfriend got me a 30 gb "video and picture" ipod.
Yeah...Itunes was "updated" and doesn't work for crap. Before you go and say I'm not computer savvy, I suggest reading what some people have said on the apple boards. They are not happy customers. By the way, did you know that if you buy an ipod, you only get to call technical support for 90 days after your purchase? After that you have to PAY for it.

True, the ipod is very nice, although it runs a bit slow sometimes. And I'd like it so much better if itunes worked correctly and I was actually able to put pictures and videos on it.

However, I actually sometimes feel the ipod is a bit too small---I always worry about losing it.

Ipods are pretty cool, BUT the technical "support" and any problems you'll have with it won't be fixed for a long time. Apple does not care about it's consumers, as long as they're still blindly paying for the ipod.

My opinion is to get the Zune..There's no way it can have worse customer support then the Apple.
And, if possible, I'm getting my ipod returned and getting a Zune.

Posted by: Jade | December 26, 2006 8:27 PM

Zune's aren't pricey. My sister got a 30gig ipod for the same price as my 30gig Zune. They just came out with Zune a little over a month ago, so how do you expect it to launch everything ipod has? Last time I remember, ipod has been around for a while. Zune dosen't make crappy 1 inch shuffles either. Give Zune some time and I bet you they will be bigger AND a better hit than ipod will ever be.

Posted by: Brittany | December 26, 2006 8:30 PM

Oh by the way "Jack" and "Rebecca" [two extremely cliched names] it appears, to me at least, that Apple has the plants. The woman with like, what, four kids, and all of them got ipods except one who "decided" to get a Zune? I mean, what parent with four kids can afford to pay for three ipods and a Zune?

That's just a bit ridiculous.

Posted by: Jade | December 26, 2006 8:42 PM

He told me today he wants a Zune. I said "What about an Ipod?" He says Zune or nothing and that his friends at school have Zunes and that they'll be able to trade songs back and forth. I'm looking for the lowest price online along with the lowest cost to ship.

Posted by: Nancy | December 26, 2006 9:16 PM

I got a Zune for Christmas from my husband. I had asked for an Ipod and they were out of stock so he bought me the Zune instead. I spent an hour downloading the software, there wasn't even a manual with it. I knew nothing about it as far as what it can do. I'm very frustrated as to whether or not to take it back or not. My brother who is a technology junky ( also a college professor who teaches computer programming) says to take it back and get an Ipod. He said Microsoft is having alot of problems with the Zune crashing. So I think I'll take it back tomorrow.

Posted by: Torn | December 26, 2006 9:23 PM

Got my Zune as a Christmas present from my husband. He asked his friends at his work and all of them advised him to get me the iPOD. Well, we already have two shuffles and both of them are dead now and it's only been a little more than a year. When we were at the store, my husband still asked me:do you really want the Zune and not this iPOD?. I told him, hey..I'd like to watch videos on a bigger screen and not on this smaller one :-)

I was patiently waiting for Christmas to open my Zune and had been using my old cd player until I told him.."that's it. I need my Z now". So I opened the box earlier and since then, I've been using it and have really enjoyed my Zune. It's not as shinny looking as the ipod is, but hey, you won't believe you can fall in love with this "big" player until you have it in your hand. I just hope one day I can share songs wih my families and friends in other states with this wifi feature. Since this is a new product, what I've been doing is surfing on the internet reading all reviews and information about Zune. That's why I got to this board.

Anyway, Good Luck with you guys if you try to choose a new MP3 player. Try it all and just like looking for a partner, follow your heart :-)

okay i had an ipod for like 4 weeks and, it was new, of course , worked fine , and i saw the zune on tv. i was like its huge the ipods fine its 30 gig. whatever. about a week later . the ipod sucked. it kept turning off and i had to reset it. i still though didnt want a zune it looked too big. well i got it for christmas and compared there like a centimeter difference the commercial looked crappy but the zune is magnificent i love it . perfect screen . loud headphones. its hard to setup. but so is itune cuz i suck with music programs. i never even bought songs i just used limewire. but i deleted limewire right after its bad. ZUNES GREAT NOT IPOD!

Posted by: Jordan Hayes | December 27, 2006 12:00 AM

ZUNE IS THE BEST!!!!
I got one
ITS BETTER THAN IPOD BECAUSE:
IF YOU TURN THE IPOD's VOLUME TO 75% AND UP,IT DISTORTS IN YOUR EARS AND IT BLOWS OUT THE IPOD HEADPHONES(WHY WOULD APPLE MAKE A IPOD THAT BLOWS OUT ITS OWN HEADPHONES??). WITH THE ZUNE THE SOUND QUALITY IS PERFECT WITH THE EQ SET TO ACOUSTIC. I COULD RIZE THE VOLUME UP TO ABOUT 15 ON THE ZUNE AND THE SOUND IS HEAVENLY. THE IPOD SOUND QUALITY IS HORRIBLE AND IT MAKES NO SENSE FOR THE IPOD TO HAVE ALL THOSE EQUALIZER PRESETS WHEN ALL OF THEM ARE HORRIBLE. THE IPOD DOESNT HAVE WI-FI. ONCE MICROSOFT MAKES NEW UPDATES FOR THE ZUNE, MORE FEATURES WILL BE AVAILIBLE!! THE ZUNE WORKS WITH XBOX360 HOW FREAKIN COOL IS DAT!?!? THE VIDEO QUALITY IS CRYSTAL CLEAR. THE INTERFACE IS SIMPLE. I CAN PUT ALL MY SONGS VIDS AND PICS ON IT WITHOUT ANY HASSLE (UNLIKE ITUNES CRAPPY SOFTWARE) 30GB OF SPACE IS JUST RIGHT FOR ME. ALL YOU PEOPLE PAYIN 300+FOR A 80GB IPOD ARE DWEEBS.
SO TO CONCLUDE,
ZUNE WINS
ZUNE IS THE BEST!!! I WOULD RECOMMMEND IT TO PEOPLE WHO ARE SMART, AND FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT RETARDED WHEN IT COMES TO COMPUTERS AND GADGETS.

last time i checked im not a microsoft represenative since that im only 15 but come on zune is a good product it needs a little expanding it needs a calender and i would personally like a clock on it but i have already reviewed this and didnt like some of the other comments that some people stated for instance some them thought that microsoft was doing this and ah there not i decided that i go to google and type in zune and write a review to help other people in their decision making process and this web site was the first to pop up so all u other pro apple users just need to get a grip once marketplace gets finished it will blow apple out and one more thing microsoft can drop a bunch of money on a product and apple cant do that i went with zune becasue of the fact that microsoft is such a bigger company than apple and i liked that their device upgradeable with wifi eventually microsoft should make the zune connect to a wirless connection and be able to sync songs from the device itself and i think that they will do that and these are the reason that i went with the zune there are some draw backs to the zune but there is to every product there is so go with zune or go with ipod i really dont care i made my decision and went with zune cause my preferance of microsoft over apple so im out and wont popst anymore peace...

Ipods suck...zune is way cooler

Posted by: psf4 | December 27, 2006 2:11 AM

all right, i'm only 12 and i hear everybody saying "Oh my god, this ipod is so cool"...The next month or so I hear them saying crap! My ipod died!I have a Dell dj, and I must say its a 5 gig, (Needs to Expand)but it's very durable. I dropped it on the concrete 7 times and it still works like a charm, and when it rarely freezes you just stick a bobby pin or something like that into a little hole and it restarts, still...Works like A charm. I have always hated macs becuase of their user freindlienes, thus I hate the ipod for the same reason. My dad got an ipod for his birthday and its hard to use, when they say how user freindly it is, then when you want to put something new on like a song or two it deletes everything else, now that is just A pain in the A**!
I am saving up all my money to buy a zune, Becuase I have always liked microsoft products, and it sounds way cooler!I hope microsoft kicks the ipod's ass, when I get a zune i'll be crankin' pink Floyd while all those ipod freaks will be crying over there busted, stupid, overated ipod. I've got one last thing to say: the zune has many more features (like fm radio) that will take the ipod down, and the day that the ipod is no longer sold in stores (and replaced by the zune) will be A great day!

P.S. "Ipods suck, Zune rules, You know it!

I have had 3 ipods. A 1st generation, a nano and now a 30 gig video ipod. I have had no problems with any of them! The itunes store works wonderful on my mac and pc. I just think it is an incredible pic of equipment. I have several friends who have ipods and have never had any of the issues that people here have said about them. I just visited the Apple store in Arden Fair Mall here in Sacramento (I am buying a 24" imac) and there was a line of folk still buying ipods. I bought a mac after loving my ipod and now am an Apple fan. The zune might be a nice mp3 player and I think competition is great....but the ipod far from sucks. I love itunes and yes, I have downloaded the most recent versions on my Mac and PC and have no problems. The pod casts are wonderful! I love the fact that I can beam my playlists from my itunes library to my Denon home stereo. I buy music from itunes but the ipod ... like satellite radio(Sirius)...has made me a collector of music. I could really care less that my ipod does not have an fm tuner. I can buy an aftermarket add on if I wanted FM on it. The podcasts, the itunes store. The zune might be a nice mp3 player...but I LOVE MY IPODS!

My nephew and Brother In Law got Zunes for Christmas, the Zunes are better looking and not as clunky as I thought, We downloaded some songs and tranfered video of some football highlights to the Zune, my family has 4 Ipods of different flavors, we still prefer the Ipods but the Zune is not bad. 2nd generation design and Improved Market Place should help the Zune.

Posted by: KappaDon | December 27, 2006 9:40 AM

Have an IPOD nano myslef, like it for the small size, no video-just music-great for excercising, etc. Got my 19 y/o son the Zune for Christmas, gave him the option of returning it for an IPOD-he's sticking with the Zune. He's 6'3 and likes the sturdy feel of the Zune compared to the IPOD and the larger screen for the videos. The only issue right now is that he is having trouble transffering his video files to the zoom. Whatevere you buy consider purchasing an extended warranty. Bought a 2 year extended warranty with the Zune as I did with my IPOD.

I have a zune, and don't regret it. I'm not a plant, I'm a 49 year old tech head whose mp3 collection would be considered pitiful by most people here. I don't care, because I didn't buy the Zune for music, or the radio, or because it's brown, or because it's an anti-apple statement. I bought the zune because it has a big bright scratch-resistant screen that displays pictures or video WAY better than anything else out there, except maybe some of the bigger media players, which were less portable than I wanted.

I'm having a blast putting tv shows I've bittorrented on my zune, along with dvd's, google videos, home movies from my digital camcorder, and all my jpg's.

Can your grandma do what I'm doing? No. If you don't know what bittorrent is, you're probably not techie enough.

If all you want to do is play your giant mp3 collection, by all means get the ipod.

But if you are more technically adventurous, you'll love the Zune.

There, an honest, no-fanboy review.

Asked my daughter to get me an 30 gig Ipod for X-mas. Opened my gift and it was the 30 gig Zune. Should I be upset??? Time will only tell.

I got a Zune and an iPOD 30G for Christmas. I'm doing a comparision to decide which I like best.

So far, I like the Zune's large screen compared to iPOD's. I also like Zune's back ground options and the clarity of the video. The down side is that the Zune does not have a calender, a contacts list, a note pad, a clock, or games :( .

The WiFi is a nice feature if the software can be updated to allow the WiFi to be used for more than just sharing music.

So far it's been a very difficult decission, but I'm leaning toward the iPOD because of lack of features with the Zune, features that may not be useful to some but are useful to me. If you do not care about the extra features listed above, than Zune is probably the better value.

I like them both, but have to base my decission on what item will provide the most use for me. Everyone is different and it depends upon what is the most important as far as features go. They both are easy to use and seem to work well as designed. I plan to put them both to the test for the next week and will have my mind made up at the end of the week as far as which will be the best choice for what I need and will use in features and performance.

Apple vs Microsoft: seems familiure doesn't it?

BTW,
If Microsoft comes out with a firmware update by next week that includes the features that iPOD has, I feel that Zune most likely will be my choice because of the other features and performance that it has to offer.

I am still debating if i want to keep my Zune (xmas gift) or return it for different stuff at Best Buy store. I've been reading all good and bad things about the Zune. Help!

Posted by: Mr. Ed | December 28, 2006 7:42 AM

RETURN YOUR ZUNE NOW!!! I had a 2nd generation ipod and then it got stolen after two months. In that two months I used it for not only music, but also as an extra hard drive to save documents on so I could carry my notes around with me for school. Also, I used the ipod for recording lectures which was also awesome, and of course downloading music.

Anyways, I've been without an mp3 player for almost two years now so when I got the brand new ZUNE I was totally excited.

PROS:
*Nice, huge display screen plays videos like no other.

*You can choose your own background.
*it's black

CONS:
* I didn't like the program that came with it. Everytime I'd hookup my zune it would automatically "sync" every song on my computer to my zune. I finally figured out how to turn it off, but the next time I went to open the program it would start to "sync" again and I'd have to go and change the setttings again. VERY ANNOYING! I had to keep deleting the same albums/songs over and over again.

*MUSIC:

It took forever to load songs on to the zune. You'd have to click and drag songs from your library to the side bar then click "sync" and wait for it to transfer all those songs to your zune.

In Itunes all you have to do is click and drag to your ipod icon. After the songs were "sync"-ed it would automatically sync other songs that were on your computer so if you weren't monitoring when your songs were done you'd get a whole bunch of songs on your zune that you didn't intend of putting on it.

Playlists weren't very efficient either. You'd have to build your playlist in your library and then transfer it to the sidebar to get "sync"-ed. You can't add or remove songs once the playlist is on your zune which is retarded!! YOu have to add/remove songs from the playlist in your zune library then transfer that again to the sidebar to be "sync"-ed or transfered to your zune.

When I would remove files I'd get error messages all the time, but it would still delete the file. It was just annoying to get the pop-up error message every time.

Sound quality is the same as an ipod or a c.d player.

*PICTURES:

*Again, it would pull every picture on your hard drive and you'd have to go back and delete.

*Can't rotate or determine if the picture will turn out upside down/right side up, etc. It just automatically positions it for you.

VIDEOS:

*Tried putting my own movie clips (which are default to media player) from my digital camera on there but no luck.

If Apple can somehow make an ipod with a bigger screen or allow for the customer to use their own pictures as a background then it would beat Zune hands down. I wrote a review earlier in the week in which I was unsure about the zune, but last night I wasted a good 4 hours trying to get use to this thing and it just didn't work out. ALSO THERE'S NO REALL HELP OR PRODUCT GUIDE to show you what to do. You either have to go online or figure it out for yourself which is really frustrating. I REEEEEEEEEALLY didn't want to return this. I wanted to standout from my crowd of friends and just deal with the zune, but I just had a horrible experience with it so I'm going to get an ipod today. Also the zune came with a car accessory kit which I didn't even use, but I got the zune with the FM transmitter/carcharger for 239 at Sams club.

Hope this helps!

It is the Betamax vs VHS war all over again. Ipod being the VHS, Zune the Betamax...superior in some ways but not as marketable. I do not expect the Zune Marketplace to be around very long. iTunes and iPod have the infrastructure that will be around for a long time.

Posted by: KB | December 28, 2006 11:20 AM

C'mon...some of these "teenagers" have writing skills way out of thier league. Give it a break. We know you're M$ shills. Its (the Zune) is a big brick that lets you transfer songs for na 3 day period or 3 plays. That sucks. If I needed a bigger screen i would turn to a PSP. I could even play games on it. And for the comment about the click wheel. I bet my 60 gig against anyone with a Zune that I can scroll faster to my selections if we format the songs and playlists the same way. Youre just mad cause they dont have aclick wheel. Using it to adjust volume or to advance to playlists is a no brainer and can be done blindfolded without having to "click" "click" "click" hold, hold hold, etc. the sleek glass and metal back. Its the Icon of music and wont be beat this time around. Tsss c'mon now playa you gotta get better than this to make someone believe what you're writing. Are you really trying that hard to make them dollas?

I got a zune for xmas and I love it. I had ipod before it and was a pain to work with..The zune is a blessing in disguise. I love my big zune...looks are whats important....

Posted by: kel | December 30, 2006 12:37 AM

Looks are shallow and can change over the years. Quality!!

Posted by: TFT | December 30, 2006 2:50 AM

honestly, i don't understand these people who complain about there ipods breaking down or freezing, or the battery draining or anything. I have had my ipod nano for over a year now, and the battery stil lasts me more time than i need, it has NEVER frozen on me. i use it everyday back and forth from school in the car. i have no trouble with i tunes, except for the occasional slow sync, but that's only because my computer is retarded sometimes. All my friends have ipods and no one has ever complained. Now, if ipod could come up wiht a wifi capability, instead of me carrying my MAC with me ervywhere i go just to share my songs, then ipod would be amazing! but seriously, when is a company ever gonna be able to meet ALL ur demands??? answer: never.

Posted by: J | December 31, 2006 4:09 AM

So i Had a iPod Nano(first Gen)
it was ok but was kindda hard to read the song titles
and the whole idea for pics on a postage stamp screen is kindda obnoxious
So I got a zune
The screen is great and good quality for pics and movies
The headphones it comes with are a peace of junk
The music quality is outstanding and you dont need the volume to be more than half way to hear it unlike the iPod
A Down side is the "pre-loaded content" you can only keep untill you plug your zune in cause it says it is synced to another comp
so that was a bust
Another down side is that the market place doesnt have video
but that will change soon
The subscription service is also a bust because when you stop paying for it and when you plug ur zune in loose it all and all that money goes down the drain
i like how there isint anything i wont use
the use for a lock, games, contacts, volume lock, world clock is bogus and just takes up storage space
scratch resistant is a Thumbs up
my ipod nano had so many scratches and finger prints it was groose to look at
The Zune is somewhat big but doesnt matter if you get a clip on case.

I love the zune and its features

i havnt tested the whole Wifi deal becuase not a whole lot of people have the zune but that may change

!
Happing shopping for that right mp3!

Posted by: lockshock84 | December 31, 2006 3:06 PM

p.s im only 14 and live in CO
i have been a comp freak so dont say i work for microsoft
thats stupid
they would have to have ALOT of time on there hands to do all there reviews
so doont judge
jeez!

Posted by: Anonymous | December 31, 2006 3:14 PM

Subscription service sucks. Once one stops paying the 15 bucks a month, poof, there goes all of ones songs.

Posted by: Anonymous | December 31, 2006 9:15 PM

I got my Zune for Christmas; I do not work for MS. I liked mine but never had an IPOD. I have put WMA videos into the device and they work fine. Have all of my mp3, also in the device. I do not like not being able to delete songs from my playlist, once on the zune. I can do it from the desktop and it is pretty easy, drag and drop. I am happy. Oh it was allot cheaper, got to love coupons!!

Posted by: Brian | January 2, 2007 8:30 AM

Yes, the Zune is great and iPod sucks. Yeah, right. Give the Zune a couple of months and more problems will appear or disappear with an MS operating system.

One of Zune's biggest faults is listed above:

Subscription service sucks. Once one stops paying the 15 bucks a month, poof, there goes all of ones songs.

And even with my Apple/iPod, I don't buy that many songs from the store. But the Apple store rocks -- even with all the users downloading a plethora of stuff.

Yes, I also have a 512 Creative that is never used.

A simple interface that connects well to the player, and a variety of choices to download, makes the iPod extra shiny in this crowded crop of mp3 players.

Plus: When did MS ever venture out of the pc world aimed directly at corporations? Apple's got the 'people' thing down pat!

Posted by: Apple lover | January 3, 2007 1:54 PM

Hi, me again

Ummmmm
whats with all the people saying iPod sucks?
The iPod really isint that bad
There is nothing wronge with it
My nano worked fine
I just wanted (honestly) a big screen to watch video
but if iPod came out with a 3 inch screen like the zune i would honestly get the iPod

So dont be ignorant
There is nothing wronge with the iPod

Posted by: lockshock84 | January 3, 2007 10:43 PM

Man oh man, I smell some serious Zune astro-turfing on this site. Don't you guys check IP addresses or anything? I'll bet 75% of all these bogus "Yeah I got a Zune for Christmas and I love it!" comments came from the same pimply-faced 15-year-old getting kickback checks from Uncle Bill in Redmond.

Serious! Look at the posts! On Christmas day the posts are only 5-10 minutes apart and they all love Zune! Don't tell me that Zune makes people unaccountably drop everything on Christmas Day and rush to their computer to post positive comments at the Washington Post blog!

Get real, people. This thread is overrun with MS shills trying to influence public opinion. You're smarter than that.

Zune sucks. iPod is the sh*t. Don't believe me, wait until next Tuesday after MacWorld Expo, then tell me you still want a Zune.

Zune=poo.

Posted by: macPinche | January 3, 2007 11:40 PM

Allow me to jump into the Zune/ipod debate with a comment on the Toshiba Gigabeat S30. Bought one just before Christmas, and it's totally awesome. Great sound, the video is crisp and watchable on a screen as big as Zune's. Download is effortless thru WMP11. You can't delete from the device, but files deleted in Media Player don't come back to haunt you. I really love it---elegant design and a completely intuitive interface. I was moving around effortlessly withing minutes of the initial download. All this for $200! Now, if they'd just develop some accessories for it...

Posted by: hndymn1014 | January 4, 2007 8:24 PM

seriously, no more "got a Zune for christmas and already love it in a heartbeat" crap, even "i found a Zune at my doorstep" seems more credible, Ipod rules, the only thing that champs it is Iphone.

Posted by: tx | January 9, 2007 5:22 PM

Ipod and Zune are a ripp off these are Much better I have been supplying them to all my friends. Do yourself a favor get on of the Mp4's

Pros: It does everything you can think of and want on an mp3/4 player. Even the integrated speakers are pretty good. And unlike the ipod and some other mp3s I know of where the battery is built in, you can actually replace the lithium battery yourself from a little batter door in the back. You can store all your files on it like a USB flash drive while using it for videos, sharing your photos, playing music, and if you get tired of the music you have on it you can always use the fm radio. The picture quality is really phenominal. Every screen is animated with fantastic color and backlight. Oh and did I mention that it is so small and light weight. the design leaves less room for controls and buttons and more for the display screen, which is a fantastic use of space allowing this to be kept small. It even has a voice recorder for my work meetings and class lectures. (even though I really bought this for my son;))

Cons: They only have up to 120GB's but for most people this is fantastic I stored Britney Spears, Parris Hilton, Shakira , Gnarls Barkley, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sean Paul, Nelly Furtado, Pink, Sandi Thom and there was still 95% of space left. And the manual is very helpful. Luckily I am computer savy and figured out how to work it with my pc and convert the files for it . The video player does have this slight delay so the quality is a little distorted, but for the price and considering you are not watching a 50" tv screen it is just great to have.

Other thought: While I hate apple ipods after seeing this, they do include a software which makes it easier for technically deficient people to be able to use it. The software provided is Excellent but not the same as IPod's. By the time you actually find an mp3/4 player with video player , photo, voice recorder, and fm in a store you are going to pay ATLEAST $200.00 here you can get on for less than $40.00

It seems to me it really doesn't matter if you get an ipod or a zune. My ipod works fine, and it sounds like the zune works fine as well. I have a 20gb ipod, and prefer it because I've always disliked wmp.

I went out to best buy this Christmas to see if I could find any cheap mp3 players that I could use itunes with. After searching for a little while I couldn't. The only mp3 players that used itunes were the ipods, and I didn't want to pay 200 dollars for it. All of the other mp3 players used wmp exclusively, and so I decided not to get those either.

The reason I was out looking for a new mp3 player is that my ipod died on me after using it for something like a year and a half. As most of you that have had an ipod know, this is very normal.

Since my 1 year warranty had already expired, there was no way to replace the ipod. Looking through the apple site, I saw it would cost me a ridiculous amount of money to get the battery replaced, a fact that annoyed me greatly.

Finally, I searched for a random store that would have an ipod battery and found many that were selling them for 15-25 dollars. I decided to order that and it's in the mail right now, soon to be installed into my old ipod.

The thing that bugs me is that apple is going out of its way to rip people off. They give a 1 year warrently on the ipod, knowing full well that it will generally last for longer than 1 year, but not much longer.

Then, if you want your battery to work after the warranty has expired, you have to pay something near the price of another ipod. People then decide to buy a new ipod or get ripped off paying for a new battery, thereby gaining apple even more money.

Wizened to what happened, the customer buys a 2 or 3 year warrently for a large sum of money, though less than what it would take for a new battery or a new ipod.

The customer is out of money, and apple is now getting more money than ever.

I'm not trying to bash the ipod, because I use it and I like using it. But I am pissed about the fact that apple is trying to do their best to get as much money as possible from customers, and trying to hide that fact with something like a 1 year warranty.

The thing I think is funny is that the Zune will probably be exactly the same as the ipod. It will last for a little over a year, and then die. Maybe it will be less consistent and maybe it will be more consistent than the ipod, but it will essentially be the same.

Regarding either brand of mp3 player...pick the one you like best, and make sure when it dies to buy a new battery and get it installed from an independant store. I hate being cheated by big companies and I hate other people being cheated by them.

Hopefully this sounds like an impartial review ^^ .

I got an Zune for Xmas and I love it! The 7 hours that it took to re-start my PC, and repeatedly re-install the drivers allowed me and my family to bond more. I don't mind the big size, it allows me to do really cool things with the size and all. And best of all, my boss pays me to write blog posts like this. How cool is that?

I am paid MS Shill. I post in these blogs because my marketing company is paid to "astroturf" for Microsoft (we make fake grassroots support posts on any and all comment sections). That being said.

Zune is the best. It is better than my 50" Plasma TV and my stereo. Even though it sold less than most any other MP3 player out there, Do I have anything negative to say? No, course not.

Note to readers-look up "astroturfing" and then re-read some of the comments here and elsewere. You will see the paid astroturfers very, very quickly!

no i am not a shill, i live in denver and i have a zune. IT IS AWESOME!!!! ALL my friends have ipods, and before i bought the zune i actually bought a 2gb nano. The first 10 minutes out of the box, the damn thing froze, and i had to let it die for it to work again... so I returned it and got a zune, and so did my dad... we both love them, and so do my friends at school. Everything about it beats out ipod... even tho my dad has like 1 gb. used up on iron maiden, he'll prolly never put more on it... lol... and about the iphone... has anyone noticed that nobody listens to music on cell phones? why would an iphone be different?? i guarantee it'll never catch on
