Apple iPhone. June 29.

The TV ads make it official. Just as Apple promised - June.

There's been a lot of excitement around it and it appears to be something of a breakthrough, a touch-screen phone and iPod. Reminder that it's available only through AT&T (remember that multi-year agreement between the Apple and then-Cingular.) If you're an AT&T customer planning to pick one up, let the less-fortunate know what you think.

So that's it. iPhone. June 29.

AT&T only? That's completely ridiculous. What's Apple thinking? Make it for multiple carriers - you'll sell more! People are in contracts w/other carriers that they don't want to pay $175 for each line to break! Stupid stupid stupid.

Apple has said repeatedly the ability to offer firmware and software (and interface) upgrades electronically is a giant step toward not being obsolete in six months, actually.

This phone will cause people to switch carriers... and Apple will wrestle control from the "it's the network" folks. Apple's focus is on the user experience, which is a delightful change from the industry norm.

The only way this iPhone will be obsoleted is if Apple hits the street with a newer model. There are too many innovations in it that will be difficult for any of the big three to come up with all in one phone.

The price is not a problem if the features work well. Those who object to the price wouldnt have bought any smartphone from anyone.

If people had bought their just ten shares when the iPhone was aannounced, they could have made the price of the phone anyway.

The inability to change the battery when the battery's ability to recharge runs out is a deal killer for me. I want something that will last me years and not make me upgrade every few years.

The exclusivity with AT&T will back fire - as a result this phone will fail and will leave a big dent in Apple's marketability which until now has been armor.

There's a reason why apple can barely maintain 13% of the pc market... it's the same reason why exclusivity with AT&T makes no sense.

Apples decision to use GSM was smart, not a miss. For the American audience who thinks multiple carriers is smart you must consider what you don't know. It isn't about the carrier so much as it is about the standard. Cingular, now ATT, and T-Mobile are the only two carriers in the US that offer GSM. Verizon offers CDMA and Sprint offers TDMA. Add to this that ATT enjoys the largest wireless subscriber base and footprint in the US.

Next off, the only place on the globe using TDMA and CDMA is right here in the US in any great number. The whole of Europe uses GSM by contrast.

So then, I must ask the ignorant, how does selecting the largest carrier in the US together with the most widely accepted wireless technology in the globe reflect a decision to not sell the most amount of phones? The decision is sound.

Secondly, for those who've taken the time to read, the exclusivity is only limited to US carriers per Cingular, now ATT. Logic would then dictate Apple are free to select which ever carrier they wish, so long as they are GSM based service providers, in international markets.

From the 3G.org: GSM is selected on the global landscape 10 to 1 over rival technologies. In the 12 months from 1Q 2005 to 1Q 2006, the GSM family of technologies showed continued growth throughout the Western Hemisphere, adding nearly 95 million new customers - 3.5 times as many as CDMA - and approaching a quarter of a billion customers in this region alone. CDMA's customer base in the region grew to a total of 169 million in the same time period with 27 million new customers and market share declining to 34.6%, along with TDMA to 11.6%.

Why would a company new to the space invest money to develop a product to penetrate a declining market? Business 101 people.

This phone will be a HUGE success, regardless of carrier or price. Razr, iPod, and the Mini Cooper show that fashion sells better than features, performance, or even price. Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it.
