UPDATE: Googlefail Is Now So Five Minutes Ago

Mike Musgrove

Google users this morning began reporting that the search engine's main site and several of the company's properties had been either slow to load, or not loading at all.

But the problem looks to have been fixed.

The apparent glitch had been a major topic of discussion among Twitter users today, flagging their posts about the topic under the term "#googlefail." As of this writing, that's the top "trending topic" at the site right now.

So far, Google has acknowledged a problem this morning with Gmail, affecting a "small subset of users" but the company says it has fixed the issue with the widely-used email service. Google has not immediately replied to a query on the matter; Web users can usually check the company's App Status Dashboard for the latest info on the company's services.

At tech blogs this morning, users identified slowdowns or glitches in Google services ranging from Google Maps to Google Voice, the search engine company's voicemail service.

"It really just goes to show that our ENTIRE LIVES depend on Google," writes one Twitterer.

At the techy Web blog Lifehacker, an informal poll at the site has 56 percent of respondents indicating that they've had issues with Google services today. Anybody else out there having problems with any Google or Google-owned services today?

I couldn't get into either gmail or Google News yesterday morning, and now I can't get into Google News today either.
