Report Questions Rumors Of DOJ Telecom Probe

SNL Financial is debunking a report in July that the Justice Department is investigating the telecommunications industry for anti-competitive practices.

After the press report was released, the financial research firm with clients on Wall Street, filed a freedom of information request with Justice. Thursday, SNL reported that Justice responded that it could not find any correspondence between telecommunications operators and the antitrust watchdogs agencies related to questions of potential abuses of power.

A source at the agency, who was not authorized to comment publicly and therefore spoke on the condition of anonymity, told me at the time of the report that the agency hadn't launched an official probe.
