Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season

As Hurricane Gustav barges into Louisiana, it's certain that some people will die, either as a direct result of the storm or because the uproar tipped weakened conditions over the edge.

Needless to say, we all hope there's not a repeat of Katrina. The official death toll from that storm was around 1,800 but it's a difficult matter to count those who died of pre-existing conditions after they were relocated.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune did a stellar job covering that hurricane and has been doing just as well on this one; here's hoping their obits page doesn't grow as a result of the storm.
