Diehard Fans

"They're gonna drive me to an early grave!" sports fanatics have been known to lament, shaking their heads over their favorite team's ineptitude. (No, this is not a blog about the Redskins). Now, whether early or late, baseball fans have an opportunity to take a little bit of their favorite team with them when they depart this mortal coil.
Francis X. Clines, the estimable New York Times writer, reports today that Major League Baseball has authorized the use of team logos on funeral caskets. He didn't mention the Nats, but models for the Yankees come with interior pinstripes; the Mets feature blue and orange handles. The team logo is embossed on both the open lid lining and the loved one's head pillow.
The caskets are on sale at the Branch Funeral Home in Smithtown, Long Island. They go for $5,000, or 20 percent more than the non-logo model.
