Our colleague Josh White has been running a series of stories about nefarious practices of Service Corporation International, a Houston-based funeral services conglomerate that is facing allegations of mishandling as many as 200 bodies over the past year at a central preparation facility in Falls Church. SCI owns more than 1,700 funeral homes and cemeteries across the country, making it the largest company of its kind.
In case you missed it, Josh wrote a story three weeks ago about inadequate (to say the least) storage of bodies at a central processing facility in Virginia.
It's a fine example of reporting that matters and it reminds me of Jessica Mitford's "American Way of Death." Judging from the comments attached to the stories, readers appreciate it.
