Social Media for the Fictional Dead

Patricia Sullivan

Since we deal with real people here, it's kind of bizarre to see that Fox television network (the entertainment division) has created an online memorial site and a Facebook memorial for a *character* who died on the series "House." (Thanks to Baltimore Sun critic David Zurawick, on whose blog I first saw this.)

It's pretty common these days for people to put up memorial sites for family members or friends who have died, but for a television character? And he's not even the lead character!

The actor, Kal Penn, is reportedly going to work at the White House, of all places, as associate director in the White House office of public liaison. So reality and fantasy merge.
