Danny Gans of Vegas
The AP reports the death of singer-dancer-mimic Danny Gans at 52 and called him "one of the most popular entertainers on the Las Vegas Strip for the last decade." No info yet on how he died, other than he was found by his wife at their home in Henderson, Nev.
Gans performed at The Mirage for more than eight years before moving to the Encore Theater in February, the AP said, adding that he "did rapid-fire imitations of personalities ranging from Tony Bennett to Al Pacino to Sarah Vaughan." He also performed in a one-man show on Broadway in 1995 and had a small role in "Bull Durham" (1988).
He's huge in Las Vegas, according to Washington Post collegues who enjoy Vegas, but practically unknown anywhere else. Here's a sampling of his act, for those who can't get enough:
