Dom DiMaggio, Brother of Joe

Baseball player Dom DiMaggio, brother of the more famous Joe and teammate of Ted Williams, has died at 92. Though he was never quite the player that his brother was, he was a classy centerfielder with the Boston Red Sox in the 1940s and 1950s and was one of the few players of his era to wear glasses.

He made the All Star team seven times and still holds the Red Sox all-time record for hitting in consecutive games. Dom DiMaggio was featured in one of David Halberstam's baseball books, "The Teammates," about several players from the 1946 Red Sox, and had a prosperous post-baseball career in business.

One of the things I hope to explore in the obituary is whether he felt any rivalry with his brother, who is in the Hall of Fame and, by the way, married Marilyn Monroe.

We'll get a staff obit up as soon as we can. Oddly enough, this will be my second obituary this week of someone named Dom, after Dom DeLuise. Is there a third Dom out there we don't know about?
