Michael Jackson Update

The Los Angeles Times reported at 3:15 p.m., Pacific time, that Michael Jackson is dead at age 50. The Times attributed the information to city and law enforcement sources.

He had been rushed to a hospital earlier in the afternoon by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and was reportedly in a deep coma.

Jackson's death is untimely and shocking. I grew up on Michael Jackson. He had 13 number one hits and changed the landscape of music videos when he came out with Thriller in the 1980s. I vividly remember the sequined white glove, the moonwalk, and his out-of-this-world Pepsi commercials.

I also saw the downfall of the man who was once known as the "King of Pop." During the 1990s, Jackson saw a string of child abuse accusations and there is that infamous footage of the singer hanging his baby over a balcony. I guess now it will always remain a mystery of what really went on behind the gates at "Neverland," his California estate.

In a few weeks he was going to embark on a United Kingdom comeback tour. Maybe he would have redeemed his career. I guess we will never know.

Stay tuned for a full obituary. In the meantime I leave you with some video clips to remember the legendary artist.

He wrote Thriller man. Thriller.

Not even at the end of a very trying week, especially for us in the DMV, but this is the straw that broke my back right here.

It's hard watching those who inspired us pass. Despite the talk and accusations, he was a gifted individual and the world just lost a great artist.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson
