The Daily Goodbye

Wow, the king of pop and Gen X's favorite pinup girl both died yesterday, on the heels of
Ed McMahon's death a day earlier. Regarding the unexpected death of Michael Jackson, there are about a million sidebars, retrospectives, deconstructions of both, not to mention the fan gatherings.

Let's see if there's room for anything else, or that sucked all the oxygen out of the Internet today.

A well-known Florida lawyer Glenn M. Burton was on his way home, having just been named to the state sports authority board, when he died.

When your relative is a victim of a mass tragedy, you grieve but you still have to deal with the bureaucracy. One of our reporters accompanied a family through the labyrinth after the DC Metrorail crash.

Here's a weird one that we hope does not become the next hot trend: handing out gift bags of cremains at the memorial service.

Fast becoming one of our favorite Friday reads, The Grim Reader over at Obit magazine apparently filed too soon for Michael Jackson's death last night, but he found many other fascinating pieces to comment upon.
