David Mills, TV writer

Matt Schudel

David Mills, a television writer and producer who worked with David Simon on "The Wire" and the new HBO series "Treme," died Wednesday on the Treme set. Details are still sketchy, but Mills -- who worked at The Washington Post from 1990 to 1994 -- appears to have been 48.

Here's the New Orleans Times Picayune's first take on the story.

Mills grew up in Lanham, Md., and went to the University of Maryland before coming to The Post. He wrote on music and pop culture for the Style section, including the 1992 Sister Souljah story that led presidential candidate Bill Clinton to denounce the then-famous rap star.

We'll have a full story up later.
