Kevin McCarthy, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" star, dies

"The sci-fi thriller Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is so embedded in our culture that even if you've never seen the film, this trailer for the 1956 original feels familiar. Kevin McCarthy, who plays the handsome young doctor who understands before anyone else the horror taking over his town, died Saturday of pneumonia in Hyannis,Mass. He was 96.

So very sad to hear that this wonderful man is gone. I had the chance to work with him some years ago-- he was in his mid-80s then but sharp as a tack! He faced something like a 7 to 8 page monologue and in he comes, hits his marks and just nails it. A beautiful, haunting performance--word-perfect, over and over, all afternoon long! They don't make many pros like that anymore.

On top of that, he was just the nicest, warmest, fellow imaginable. Gracious to a fault he signed many, many autographs and shook a lot of hands that day. A tip of the hat to you, Mr. McCarthy... thank you for the memories, the work and for sharing your best with all of us for all of those years. Godspeed.
