Dual Loyalties?

The highlight of this afternoon’s reception of the Republican Jewish Coalition at Minneapolis’ Walker Art Center, other than the spread from Wolfgang Puck, was the revelation that in an interview filmed in Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office well before she was being considered for the national ticket, an Israeli flag was plainly visible on her wall.

“She was being interviewed by some wildlife show about hiking up glaciers,” RJC executive director Matt Brooks said, “and you could see an Israeli flag on the wall. It tells me she has Israel in her heart and in her mind.”

But in light of reports that Palin belonged for a time to the Alaska Independence Party, an organization that has supported Alaskan secession from the union, is it possible that Palin, in her heart of hearts, believes that Alaska should leave the United States and append itself to Israel? The notion is not that far from the premise of Michael Chabon’s novel last year, The Yiddish Policemen’s Union, in which the Jews of Eastern Europe escape Hitler when the United States permits them to relocate to Juneau, where they dub themselves “the Frozen Chosen.”

But with details of Palin’s life and personal convictions continuing to dribble out, we need to know what she really believes about the special relationship between Israel and Alaska. Should the two go off together, leaving the United States behind? And how important to all this is lox?

By now, I wouldn't be surprised by anything that comes out about Sarah Palin or her family.

Still, I have to ask: is this a joke?

I got a chuckle from this - and then, on reflection, I didn't think it was so funny. Consider how different recent history would have been had the Jewish state not been created by force and by UN caveat.

Alaska, Nevada, and Montana could easily, legally, and peacefully have absorbed the displaced European Jews. What a beautiful solution it would have been. The UN, if it wanted to get in the caveat business, could have made Jerusalem a Free City and sponsored pilgrimages for people of all faiths.

I suppose if you want to pursue the "truth, even unto its innermost parts" then you'd probably want to explore Gov Palin's relationship with Pat Buchanan, whom she endorsed in 2000 over W.

Gov Palin wanted to ban library books and censor the media when she took office in Alaska.
I thinks she's closer to Nazi Germany than to Israel.

From the NYT:
"Ann Kilkenny, a Democrat who said she attended every City Council meeting in Ms. Palin’s first year in office, said Ms. Palin brought up the idea of banning some books at one meeting. “They were somehow morally or socially objectionable to her,” Ms. Kilkenny said.
The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, pledged to “resist all efforts at censorship,” Ms. Kilkenny recalled. Ms. Palin fired Ms. Emmons shortly after taking office but changed course after residents made a strong show of support. Ms. Emmons, who left her job and Wasilla a couple of years later, declined to comment for this article."

"Ms. Palin also upended the town’s traditional ways with a surprise edict: No employee was to talk to the news media without her permission."

While it is alarming that Palin may have subscribed to the idea of a secessionist Alaska, it is also absurd. Alaska tops the list of U.S. gov't. per capita aid expenditures. That is, Alaskans get more aid per resident than do the residents of any other state in the nation.

And Palin thinks they could go it alone? Yeah, right.

If Palin becomes Vice President it will be because a majority of voters neither understand national issues nor care about good government, and we will be coming closer to the end of our democratic republic.

mccain's VP pick was politically strategic, but mccain made it hastily, without having all the facts at hand. now it's backfired, the lack of vetting shows a worrying lack of regard for due process, which hardly says 'presidential'. now the republicans are doing everything they can to minimise the damage.

it's pretty hard to confirm information directly when the person in question isn't available for comment. silence seems to be the Rs' press strategy at this point.

they're treating the press like the chinese government did during the olympics - hiding, lying, refusing to participate (pulling mccain out of larry king due to campbell brown's attempt at journalism on monday night,) and accusing them of 'bias' to avoid scrutiny from their own base.

Bat Boy Lives!!!

It's great to see that even though the 'Weekly World News' is now defunct, the tabloid's great journalistic tradition lives on in the opinion sections of the WaPo and NYT. What's disturbing, however, is that columns in their news sections have now lowered there standards to the point that every other paragraph starts out with "It's been reported...," or "Some have speculated...," or "It's been rumored..." Of course, there is rarely any attribution to the report, the speculation, or the rumor.

I expect by next week we will see something in the WaPo along the lines of:

"Multiple sources in Sarah Palin's home town state rumors persist that last Thanksgiving Palin, a known gun-lover and outdoorswoman, ate a dead turkey. The same sources indicated that some as of yet unnamed members of the Palin family may have participated."

Or, from Mr. Meyerson:

"In light of reports that Palin was seen eating pork chops at the local diner, one has to ask just how seriously does Sarah Palin take the concept of a special relationship existing between the U.S. and Isreal."

This NYT article shows Palin is even more like Bush/Cheney than McCain is:

""Ann Kilkenny, a Democrat who said she attended every City Council meeting in Ms.
"Ms. Palin also upended the town’s traditional ways with a surprise edict: No employee was to talk to the news media without her permission.""

God help us if this woman gets into real power.

We now know that Palin has supported Jews for Jesus sponsored by her church.
So much for respecting Jews and Judaism.
The Russians sold Alaska to the USA, not to current residents of Alaska.
Alaska is not a shareholding company co-owned by British Petrolium (where Palin's husband works) and TransCanada Pipeline and current residents of Alaska.
Considering the corruption in Alaska and the Governor's desire to breakaway, perhaps the federal government needs to send troops occupy the state.
It appears that we have a more serious problem in Alaska in the loss of territory and resources than we do in Iraq.

Watch these video clips. This is an explosive stuff about Sarah Palin

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/1/4231/18477/878/581881

and
http://www.richardhiorns.com/

Governor Sarah Palin is a covert and overt loyalist of Alaska Independence Party (AIP) which advocates secession from the U.S. She supports Alaska’s right to secede becoming either a territory or a sovereign nation. That is the main goal of AIP.

From Alaska Independence Party. The Alaskan Independence Party's goal is the vote we were entitled to in 1958, one choice from among the following four alternatives:
1. Remain a Territory.
2. Become a separate and Independent Nation.
3. Accept Commonwealth status.
4. Become a State.

The call for this vote is in furtherance of the dream of the Alaskan Independence Party's founding father, Joe Vogler, which was for Alaskans to achieve independence under a minimal government, fully responsive to the people, promoting a peaceful and lawful means of resolving differences.

Vogler was murdered under suspicious circumstances in 1993. Manfried West confessed to the killing the following year.

Vogler was buried in Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada, fulfulling a wish that he not be buried under the American flag. His second wife, Doris, who died of cancer in January 1992, is buried next to him.

Well Mike t,

What short memories the Rs have eh? Did they not only condone but encourage and enjoy the trashing and smearing of Senator Obama and his family with scurrilous smears about their patriotism, supposed religious beliefs (remember terrorist fist-bumpgate?)and all of the Larry Sinclair and 'whitey' tape nonsense? Did they let facts or truth get in the way of their feeding frenzy? Did John McCain come to Barack's defense as Barack did with Sarah Palin's daughter (having served in the senate however briefly with Obama and no doubt being fully aware of the untruthfullness of the smears)? Can you imagine the hurt and suffering this was causing the Obamas? Did you care? How long did it go on for unabated(hint, the answer isn't a week)? What you are feeling now, the sheer unfairness of it all, is what they were going through. I'm not saying they're perfect but they didn't deserve the treatment that was dished out to them any more than the Palin's do. For some unclear reason, what is happening to Palin is unacceptable but the equally undeserved trashing of another American family was. I don't care what your political affiliation is, only the most craven will be unable to see the hypocrisy of the Rs response to this.

OBAMA CHAMELEON’S TERROR KISS

-~America is great~-
-~We can change it~-
www.barackobama.comeleon

By selecting Joe Biden, Obama implicitly acknowledges that, in fact, the “Hopeful Barack Obama” (himself with his background Family - as Family always dwells in intimate limits of the Imago of every individual -) is singularly deprived of the complex, full capacity, and capability of leading the USA (and I would add, far more than Governor Palin who, at least, has an experience of governing, while Obama has only experiences of complacent rhetorics.)

And yet, the President is THE President of the USA, and the vice-president is only a vice-president…
(This prospective of Obama Presidency male dominance was amusingly highlighted by the macho kiss of Obama on Biden’s wife’s mouth, in front of a “surprised” Biden, and an “electrified” or mesmerized folkloric crowd. By the way, Biden did not even “think” of kissing Obama’s wife on her mouth : Hierarchy commands Hierarchy !)

More seriously, Obama, despite his undulating phraseology, has finally revealed himself totally ignorant of IDEOLOGY WAR.
Obama could send as many soldiers to be killed, and spend as many billions of dollars, in Afghanistan instead of Iraq (what an innovative revolution ! ) : that would not change one iota, on the long term, in the War against Islam Terrorism.

The real and only target on the long term is the Madrasas, Islamic Schools & Centres, etc. who teach tirelessly the murderous hatred of all non-Muslims : (Jews, Christians, Hindouists, Buddhists, Shintoists, Animists, Shamanists, Marxists, etc.)

A perfect example of this IDEOLOGY WAR is given, TODAY on an impressive scale, by the Genocide of Darfour :
And who rushed first to the aid of the President of Sudan (and his acolytes who masterminded this Genocide) ???
- An angry Assembly of Arab Ministers ! (although the Moslem Population of Sudan are not Arabs but Africans enslaved and converted by force to Islam in the 9th century…)

And, here again, Obama (by himself and with his background family) appears completely disarmed, glued and vulnerable in the interlocked Fundamentals of the Islam Terrorism Ideology.
At least, John Mc Cain offers an efficient guaranty of the valuable experience of collective discipline, which is one of the minimum conditions of waging war against any Terrorism.

Should, one predictable day, the Pakistani (or Iranian) atomic Weapon fall in the hands of Al-Qaida, Talibans, and other similar Syndicates, their automated brains, fully loaded with petrodollars but rather humiliated, thirsting for revenge, and wanting to set to Occident a spectacular and unforgettable example of MUHAMMADAN JIHAD , would not hesitate, one minute, to use the Atomic Weapon, to wipe off Israel, to set ablaze the Middle East Oil reserves (of the “civilized World”) and to strike the powerful USA…
And then, the 11-9 surprise of the twin towers of New-York would be nothing compared to the Hell Disaster to come.

On the necessary way of waging War efficiently, on the long term, against Islamic Terrorism, without endlessly sacrificing soldiers and wasting billions of Dollars :
SEE : http://jerusalem-4thtemple-natan.blogspot.com
Post : “ROBOMARTYRS”

P.S. Quizz : (-the first who finds the right answer wins 1 US Dollar paid by Natan-) :
Why the running-Mate of Barack Obama is not Hillary Clinton ?

In these United States, it's not odd or objectionable to have an Israel flag on a person's wall. They are a strong ally and there are many valid reasons why millions of Americans support Israel.

Supporting a secessionist party though, is quite a different matter. It's fine to have discussion in the year 2008 about whether a state can break away from the union, but I hardly think that it is wise to nominate someone for VP who has been a member of a party which seeks to take remove Alaska from the country. This is yet another reason we have to doubt that she wasn't not put through a real vetting process and that is yet another reason to doubt McCain's judgement.

Posted by: CWW | September 3, 2008 6:48 AM | Report abuse

Natan, You win the award for saying so little with so many words. Wouldn't "I hate Obama" do the job?

Paranoid, hate-obsessed American voters are a major reason why the rest of the world (which has to live with the antics of American presidents) pray for an Obama victory. Sanity, gravitas, respect, calmness, decency and moderation are what he seems to stand for. All that Republicans seem able to do is wrap themselves in the flag and reach for their pistols, seeing enemies everywhere. If the US wants to recover its international standing and economic clout you don't need a dunce and and loony nitwit from a dysfunctional family running things.

People who say AIDS was created by the US Government to oppress blacks. Or his ties to the very corrupt Daly political machine in Chicago? Or his ties, and acceptance of large sums of cash and a brand new dream home from one Tony Rezko? Or his radical voting record, particularly in the Illinois legislature, which is too extremis even for the likes of Nancy Pelosi et al.? Claiming the courage of his convictions in "opposing" the Iraq war from the safety of the Illinois state house. To do otherwise would have been political suicide for him. Why is this corrupt extremist getting a free pass from everyone? The dealings "Saint" Obama has been involved with make Mrs. Palin's indiscretions pale by comparison. Four more years of cronyism, gangsterism, and corruption is assured if Obama gets in office. Meanwhile, everyone is nit-picking every little bit of minutae from Sarah Palin's even furthest past. I'm just waiting for the revelation that she drew on her parent's walls a three-year-old, or that she called a school-mate a name. I am amazed at the vitriol from left wing fanatics.

They are so frightened by a woman with more qualifications than their inexperienced, ineffectual presidential candidate that they resort to character assassination, and refuse to compare resume’s.

Sarah Palin has a record of accomplishments taking on corruption as a city council member, mayor, state level oversight of oil/gas, AND GOVERNOR. She has principles and stands by them unlike your

I suppose when your candidate spent his undistinguished career as a community organizer (whatever that is), a state senator who voted present rather than take a stand, and 143 days as a senator before he began his presidential run with NO accomplishments you should be afraid.

The American public will look at realities on November 4, the reality is Sarah Palin is a VICE PRESIDENTAL nominee that has vastly more relevant experience than your PRESINDETAL nominee.

No wonder the lefties resort to lies and inneudo.

It's already common knowledge that Palin belongs to an Assembly of God Church with millenarian views. Ultra right U.S. Christians support Israel because they see a Jewish state (i.e., the return of the sons of Abraham to the Holy Land) as a prerequisite for Armageddon, the 2nd coming of Jesus and the establishment of God's kingdom on earth. Whereupon, of course, all Jews will burn in hell. So I think it's a good idea to ask Ms. Palin about that flag.

The pregnancy of Palin's daughter should never have been brought out. It is not germane. What is important is the fact that in the same way a Conservative told me that he was chagrined that some blacks were not happy with the nomination of Clarence Thomas to the Supreme court because after all, "he's one of them, so why aren't they happy?"... is the way that the GOP sought to capture the votes of women by nominating any woman. This is as insulting to women as was the same idea put forth about Thomas. The GOP wanted a woman, so what about Hutcheson or any other woman who has served a while longer on the national scene than Palin.

Sarah Palin is a dangerous woman. She tried to ban books in the public library that were distasteful to her and banned anyone on her staff from talking to the media. If elected, she would attempt to take away our freedoms and rights! She is a born again Christian who doesn't see the big picture. You can't force your religious beliefs on your constituents. Wrong thing to do! Yes, and she obviously preached abstinance to her children, but where did that get her? Why not teach sex education in schools? What's wrong with it and praciticing contraception? John McCain should know better!

israel has always been a moral, financial and historical libaility on the USA.

There was absolutely no need for a "jewish state" in Palestine at the expense of some 80% of ethnically cleanesed Palestinians in 1947/8 by jewish terrorist gangs:Hganah,Palmach,Shtern, while the rest of the Palestinians languish under the longest and most brutal military occupation in modern times and are subjegated to collective punishment in occupied Gaza, West Bank

I'm glad Meyerson brought up the Yiddish Policemen's Union. I've been thinking about it a lot ever since Sarah Palin has been sprung on us. It's a great, funny book, and appropriately has a large role for evangelicals conspiring to bring about "the last days" in Israel. Very pertinent to Sarah Palin, somehow. Read the book!

I don't see how anyone can justify a 17 year old girl getting pregnant with the morals that we hold "ALL OUR LEADERS UP TOO". This has always been fuel for any political parties fire. So if you don't like the heat....
We all have skeletons in our closets but we ARE NOT running for a public office.

Low morals are not something us "southern" woman to promote to our daughter. My opinion of Mrs. Palin, McCain should fire his research people. They chose a woman for their running ticket, good plan. Not doing better research, bad.

How does a public official justify using the governments money to hire a lawyer to defend themselves against charges of abuse of power? And in the amount of $95,000! Talk about abuse

Giving out her SSI number, what about the CIA agent that was left out to dry by the White House administration and Bush?
That was life or death! And after ONE person took the blame, he was pardoned by Bush!

So does Palin deserves the “clean reputation” of a "mother” of 5 children. “Her” baby having a baby and talk of Palin’s youngest child, not being her either?? I think not.

I think her family values ARE at scrutiny here. There should be close, careful, inspection of her life, a thorough examination for the job we might be hiring her for! Why would she think the public wouldn’t find out about all of these things? Absolute power corrupts absolutely!

This has been happening over the last eight years with Bush polities.

Maybe since the "Bushes" are friends to the Saudi government, we may never find Bin Laden. the famous son of theirs we went over there (Afghanistan, not Iraq) to kill? And Iraq is a joke. No weapons of mass destruction! Notta

Martimr1 -- To quote Inigo Montoya, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Israel was not created by "UN caveat." A caveat is a cautionary detail or qualifying fact. Such as, "I highly recommend a vacation to Minneapolis, with the caveat that you should avoid it September, when it is likely to be overrun by right-wing nut jobs."

I think you meant "diktat," which sounds a lot like "caveat," but means something entirely different.

At least we can be thankful that you didn't claim Israel was created by Pol Pot.

All this about somehow it must be Palin's fault that her daughter is pregnant. It is today's society. There are daycare centers in the high schools, sex is implied on almost every TV program you watch, it is in the songs the kids listen to and it is in the cyberspace they are addicted to. Todays children are exposed to sex, drugs and violence from the time they learn to comprehend the world around them. The do gooders in Hollywood are more to blame than the family. I am a 60s child and remember the free sex and drugs of the Woodstock era. This is not something new. We cannot put our children in the basement and let them out when they are 18. We can teach them all the right things. But children will still experiment, explore and make errors in judgement that will have lifetime impacts. We can only hope they will learn, grow and succede from their experiences

Come elections and every nominee is measured on their Israel friendliness - I some times wonder how a country which literally survives on US charity managed to more or less rule it by proxy - A country's relations with another country should be guided solely by national self interest - Not by 'I have your flag in my office' litmus tests

This articles seems to hang on a single observation that Sarah Palin had displayed a flag of Israel on her office. What does it mean? Maybe she likes flags?

I have a map of THE WORLD (courtesy of National Geographic) on my office wall. What does it mean? I like maps! I also have a map of Mount Rainier National Park (courtesy of the US Park Service). I like hiking!

If Palin supports a "covert" plan to convert Jews over to Christianity, then certainly most voters would want to know about it, before they make a final choice in November.

This is not really important to me, because I am planning to vote Obama-Biden. Democrats have a worldview that fits with my National Geographic map of the world. That is, a multicultural map!
