Sarah Palin's Next Act

"I'm like, okay, God, if there is an open door for me somewhere — this is what I always pray — don't let me miss the open door. Show me where the open door is, even if it's cracked open a little bit, maybe I'll plow right on through that and maybe prematurely plow through it." -- Gov. Sarah Palin to Fox News's Greta Van Susteren

I'm like, okay, Gov. Palin, you need to disappear.

Her selection as the Republican vice presidential nominee was her open door. Palin's performance in interviews with ABC's Charles Gibson and CBS' Katie Couric proved that she is capable of "maybe prematurely plow[ing] through it." Her slew of interviews -- both scheduled and impromptu -- since she and Sen. John McCain lost their bid for the White House last week prove that she will keep plowing through that open door whether anyone likes it or not. She's gotta stop.

Look, I don't begrudge Palin one bit for continuing to ride the huge wave of notoriety she's received from her vice-presidential quest. But if Palin wants to be known for more than shopping sprees, seeing Russia from her house and not understanding the Bush doctrine, she has to start getting serious. She need look no farther than to Rudy Giuliani for the perfect Republican role model.

Giuliani was a crime-busting U.S. attorney who ran for mayor of New York City in 1989. He narrowly lost to Manhattan Borough President David Dinkins, who became the Big Apple's first black chief executive. But Giuliani turned defeat and his apparent weaknesses into a teachable moment. According to a 2003 article for Gotham Gazette by Joshua Brustein, soon after his loss, "Giuliani was looking for vision and attended a Manhattan Institute conference on crime." Over the next four years, he would be tutored on and his views would change and harden on issues of crime, "quality of life," homelessness, and welfare.

By the time Giuliani ran again in 1993, the squishiness of his proposals and the unformed, yet lofty, vision of taming the ungovernable city that were the hallmarks of his '89 run were replaced by a clear program of action that was firmly rooted in conservative principles. Faced with skyrocketing crime and disappointment with Dinkins' stewardship of the city, New Yorkers turned to him for bold leaderhip in 1993. And they got it (good and bad). Giuliani's startling success in crime reduction led to his landslide reelection in 1997 in a city that has 2 Democrats for every Republican.

How would the candidate who slammed Barack Obama for "palling around with terrorists" and extolled the virtue of "real Americans" in the "pro-America" parts of the country reach out to the moderates and independents who found such talk objectionable, mean-spirited and out of touch with their economic concerns? Does Palin think the Grand Old Party can survive as a national party with only the support of older, southern white voters? Does she even care? These are questions she must give serious thought to. No doubt her fellow governors gathered in Miami this week for the Republican Governors Association conference have given all this some thought. And in style and in substance, they are light years ahead of her.

CNN.com reports today that Palin's latest public statement is that she would be HONORED to serve in the Obama transition/administration. May I be among the first to say, "Thanks but no thanks!"

Posted by: boesc | November 12, 2008 5:19 PM | Report abuse

It's not just "the moderates and independents who found such talk objectionable, mean-spirited and out of touch with their economic concerns." Actually, Palin's fiercest critics have been right-wing Republican apparatchiki who saw her up close. That's where the comments about "whack job" and "rogue diva" and "Wasilla hilbilly" came from. Palin took a page from the worst guttersnipe McCarthyite demagogy and made it even slimier. "Mean-spirited" is far too mild a term for what Palin indulged in.

No doors, ploughed through or otherwise for you Sarah Palin. Forty-four years old and dumb as a post isn't what the pro-America part of our great country is looking for in a leader. In a few months you'll be forgotten, in a few years, anonymous. Your novelty is wearing pretty thin these days. Should you decide to pursue a less serious type of celebrity, Anna Nicolle Smith has definitely left a void among the tabloid readers and Entertainment Tonight crowd.

Commenting today on Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, God clarified earlier remarks made in a private conversation with the former GOP VP candidate:

"Actually, all I asked her to do was to be careful to plow the driveway all the way up to the front door so she could open it. That woman gets it wrong every time."

Every time I hear Sarah Palin speak (mostly incoherently, also), two words come to mind: Peter Principle. Please...someone tell her the election is over.

I went on the CNN website and there was a picture of Ms Palin. The election is over. McCain/Palin lost but we still see her picture on the CNN Webpage front and center. At the present time there is not a picture of our President Elect Obama on the CNN Webpage. Palin needs to be old news.

Please....I am tired of her. She is not Vice President let alone President material. Maybe if she can humble herself to learn the things she is lacking she will become qualified but she needs to learn a few manners and ethics while she is at it!

"Oh Lord, please don't let the door hit Sarah on the @ss on her way out."

Posted by: sasquatchbigfoot | November 12, 2008 6:14 PM | Report abuse

I admit it. I have wasted time listening to her explainations to Fox and NBC about her $150,000.00 clothing expenditure, and her claims that the facts have been distorted, how she never asked for the clothes, how they were just like campaign expenses for makeup and lighting, blah, blah, blah. But she has not come up with a coherent statement in understandable declarative sentences as to how much she spent, where the money came from, and why, if she did not want the clothes, she could not, as Nancy Reagan used to say, "Just Say No!"

This is one of those issues that would be a non-issue, if she just would explain the matter. It's not "sexist" to ask her to do that -- it's simply a request for an accounting. And there is no comparable request made of the male candidates (and their wives), simply because they all bought their own clothes.

Ms. Palin's net worth and family income parallel Joe Biden's. There's no need for her to be given a tax-free grant of funds to fill her closet, especially when the expenditure first was supposed to have been "hidden" among convention costs.

A small matter? Maybe so, but President Eisenhower lost an adviser because his wife accepted the gift of a single vicuna coat.

Times have changed, as have prices. But values and principles have not.

And after the wardrobe malfunction is resolved, Ms. Palin's "tax-free" travel expenses for her family and her per diem expenses for staying at home ought to be reviewed for compliance with income tax regulations.

Maybe she does not think paying taxes is her patriotic duty, but the returns as shown on the internet raise questions that remain unresolved.

Sadly, there is much to yet endure. Much truth to surface and book deals being cut now for the real information.

The great thing is, Palin hasn't the capacity to comprehend the term 'overexposure' in the media yet.

We still have the grandchild's arrival and the big wedding. People and other rags will be paying big time for those photos.

Rudy G? Come now. His "leadership" was about sneer and disdain while canning his police commander for getting in the way of his time in the limelight. I will concede that both he and Sarah Palin share an almost comic hyper ambitiousness. The only thing that will improve her chances in 2012, would be to hope Stevens resigns so she can appoint herself Senator and hope that fattens her resume.

Posted by: Puller58 | November 12, 2008 6:39 PM | Report abuse

The only way Palin will go away as a presidential candidate for 2012 is if the MSM would bother to do an expose of her religious beliefs and her church. They avoided it completely during this election and that is shameful. If her actual beliefs and affiliations were know the evangelical right would abandon her - her church thinks they are not really christian. As would independents that only worried about her ignorance, they will run screaming when they realize she not only believes the "end of days" is coming in her lifetime but that she (also) has been chosen by God to do whatever needs to be done to help it along. Just as she was "chosen" to lead Alaska. The woman is a fanatic but smart enough to know to hide it. Notice when she switched churches? Well, not really, she still attends the old church "sometimes".

Not answering questions correctly, showing her complete lack of brain power, her misunderstanding of the function of the branches of government and the blatant lies she spewed on the campaign trail! What the heck, life is tough when you have to face the truth about yourself! She however is coping by transforming all her faults into a self- absorbed fantasy of greatness. Her conceit is fueled by the absorption of visions of her blind followers. If she ever runs for top lipstick pitbull, we will see the BULL and she will be left with her lipshtick.

Palin is a joke. Apparently Alaska is not too picky about who gets elected. She was just found to have abused her power as governor..by a bi-partisan committee. Ted Stevens was just convicted of crimes.
In listening to her interviews..she is not well versed on political issues at any level.
she looks good..but does not back it up with intelligence. Why would McCain`s staffers blow the whistle on her clothes buying spree..if it were not true. I haven`t heard Johnny Mac..defend her..makes one wonder???

It's proforma that she should say something to effect she'd look forward to working with the new administration; it's politically advantageous, and it's proper. However, does she really need to continue to bring up the "terrorist" association? If she does that, then I have no qualms with asking why she hasn't spoken out against her husband's reported association witha secessionist group; and I have no qualms about asking about her husban'ds building their two-story, 3,450-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-bath, wood house by himself, with the help of contractors he described as "buddies" (as mayor, Ms. Palin blocked an effort to require the filing of building permits in the wide-open city, and there is no public record of who the "buddies" were. The house was built very near the complex, on a site whose city purchase led to years of unsuccessful litigation and, now, $1.3 million in additional costs, with a law firm that's also donated to Palin collecting costly fees from the city.

Please, Governor Palin. Take a sabbatical from the national scene and your continued criticism of the President-elect. You have a state to govern, you have a family to care for; you have a son that needs considerable family care, support and full time love, you have a teenaged daughter living at home that will give birth in a month and a half that you (reportedly) said you will homeschool, and you have other children that need to catch up on missed schooling due to their being on the campaign trail. If you don't need a break, we, the general public needs a break.

Even if Palin (SarahSixPack.com) were the GOP's standard bearer in 2012, Obama (ObamaAgain2012.com) is a shoo-in for re-election, as he will effectively use the power of his incumbency to win a second term. She can't rehabilitate her image because she has not rehabilitated her knowledge or her communication skills. Her reservoir of small town charm left the building I'm afraid. She now needs to fill it with something closer to credibility.

So I suggest she be given the weekly cable slot left open by the death of Anna Nichole Smith. The first first episode could deal with the similarities between Anna Nichole Smith's baby and Palin's upcoming grand child.

Later episodes could feature Palin giving tours of the various taverns and trailer parks in Wasilla.

Palin needs to GET LOST. Obviously the American public doesn't want her, and yet she is such a media hog and self promoter, she is never going to disappear into oblivion where she belongs until the media stop covering her. CNN embarrassed itself (and lost a chunk of its credibility) when Wolf Blitzer aired his ridiculous interview with her today saying she'd be honored to serve an Obama presidency. If Obama invites her to anything at all, it will be a poke in the eye to the many who gave him their votes partly in order to keep HER out of power. It is just impossible to believe that there aren't enough serious issues to crowd her out of the spotlight. C'mon, let's move on to something more important than Sarah Palin -like Obama's new dog for example.

I suspect that all the sneering and sniping at Mrs Palin will only sharpen her political ambition and her resolve for revenge on the many who have little or no respect for her. She is ambitious and she has tasted blood in the political hunt. Those PALIN/mccain buttons gave a clue to her loyalty and dependability. To discount her now will likely lead to a very unpleasant surprise before very long. Much better to find a new job for her as quickly as possible. If Alaska secedes from the union, I am sure she would be happy to become Queen.

PS If she is looking forward to serving in an Obama administration (for that to happen one would have to believe Obama will have taken leave of his considerable senses), does that mean she is now ready to "pal around" with un-American "socialists" and "community organizers"? Should we conclude that her deeply held beliefs in opposition to Obama were really just lip service, and that she will cleave to whoever has the power? Gee, what principles!

Just a reply to the person who commented on Palins religion. I checked that out as well and it appears to be right. They think there is "so much evil" in the world now that the "rapture" can't take place and they want someone to infiltrate the politcal parties in hopes they can help bring about the apocolyse and thus help the rature take place. According to their teachings the only safe place will be Alaska. Scary1!!! You are also right when you say they consider most other religions to be "false religions". It's not the main Assembly of God churches, it's separate.

You left out an important part of the quote of Palin and her prayers for an open door. She went on to say,"And if there is an open door in ‘12 or four years later, and if it is something that is going to be good for my family, for my state, for my nation, an opportunity for me, then I’ll plow through that door.” First she would go through the door if it was "good" for "my" family, "my" state, "my" nation and for "me". How egotistical is that! Secondly, although she prayed to God to open the doors, she somehow left God out of the balance of the equation. She didn't want the doors to open to do what was good for "God", but what was good for "me" and "mine". I wonder what Evangelicals think of that.

Governor Palin was a dangerous excuse for a VP candidate. She scared a lot of Americans. She has neither the education, experience, or temperament to be considered for the Presidency. The Republican conservatives, who were happy to bemoan Senator Obama's lack of experience, didn't care a whit about the profound ignorance displayed by Governor Palin. If the Republican Party is dumb enough to nominate her in 2012, the result will be the same as in 2008.

In some ways, Palin was the perfect running mate. Because she has no ethical boundaries, she was willing to do ANYTHING that the RNC strategists asked of her.

"Sarah, we need you to accuse Obama of being a foreign-born, christian-hating, terrorist sympathizer. Will do you this?" "You betcha!"

"Sarah, we need you to convince America that they should be afraid of a black man living in the White House. Can we count on you to sell this message?" "You're darn right you can!"

Well, fortunately the American people did not buy the hate-filled rhetoric that Palin was selling.

To borrow a famous line by Aaron Sorkin used in "The American President": "We've got serious problems, and we need serious people.....this is a time for serious people, (Sarah), and your fifteen minutes are up."

Palin believes that God is on her side, and that everything she does is "God's will". Therefore, in her mind, she can do no wrong. She also follows the extreme right-wing Machiavellian mantra of "if it gets us elected, it's all good."

This is a very dangerous mindset to have when in a position to shape social and foreign policy at the national level, and for these reasons, I pray that Alaskans will have enough sense to prevent her from being elected to the Senate. The way Palin strings her sentences together, it's like there's some type of disorder going on. It would be interesting to hear a psychiatrist's/psychologist's take on it.

Love to see Gov. Palin run for president 2012!
I went to one of her rally, people are totally crazy about her. She represent
The teenage girls and women looked up to her with admiration. They all felt like
she is one of them: women balancing work and family. Her reputation as
a fighter against corruption is admirable. Even with all those craps the mainstream
media threw at her, she came out strong, confident, and determine more than ever.
Give her few more years, she will be ready

Palin's ignorant narcissism is an awful example of the product of American education. Her grammar and syntax are those of a non-native speaker of English. Her civic sense is that of the American embarrassment, the Know Nothings.

She believes that her cluttered sentences and soundbyte analysis demonstrate smartness, intelligence, insight. She is a small town Big Shot, self-enchanted and too-typical of the Hannity fringe of contemporary republicanism.

God save us all from smug nincompoop beauty queens.

To those who profess to be offended and shocked because there's animosity towards Sarah Palin from liberal or progressive voters, grow up.

That animosity was well earned by Palin when she engaged in relentless lying about and slandering of Democratic candidates as well as whole regions of the country.

This was one mean spirited, sharp tongued lady if you've forgotten. She referred to herself as a pitbull and a barracuda. This was a clear reference to her attack dog behaviour.

Telling the person that's slandering your good name to shove it isn't any indication of a loss of tolerance. Because Democrats value tolerance, doesn't mean that they become doormats obliged to absorb any and all slanders.

I'm surprised everyopne wants to see her gone.

The good news is that the party can't get rid of her that easily. The base crazies love her. David Brooks called her a "fatal cancer" to the Republican party, and that she is.

She has spread deep into the party's tissue and will prove impossible to cut out. If she leads the GOP in 2012, they'll be utterly marginalized.

Oh the shoppinggate ain't going away. There are now RNC lawyers trying to figure out what was bought, who bought it, and where it is. Lawyers! Now I know $150K is a lot of money but think about it, who could possibly spend $150K shopping, even online, even at expensive stores? Its close to impossible. But it happened, and for some reason lawyers are now needed to account for it all.

If there's smoke there's fire. I'm just waiting to hear about warrants to search houses, not just Palins, for the clothes. I think the RNC got ripped off by multiple people and this will end up with law enforcement involved. Palin's part in this will be interesting to watch. I mean, the RNC lawyers had to go to Alaska to account for the clothes. That means she took them back with her, even after the whole thing blew up and she knew she could not keep them. Its sounding like she's feeling a little invincible these days. Can you say ... DIVA! But a warrant might change her disposition, might...

There's more important things going on in our country than Sarah Palin.

A review in pertinent part, on Rules For Radicals by Saul Alinsky:
"One of the most interesting parts of the book to this reviewer was how to use humor to defeat your enemies. The idea is to make them a laughing stock. Humor can be utilized to make points much more effectively than straight, serious discussion. One only has to watch the late night talk shows and SNL to see how powerful humor can be in influencing elections, especially in this era when many people no longer read the print media and get much of their news from the jokes of their favorite late night talk show hosts."

Lynn123,

If you tried to write with some sort of irony, your response was not very effective as it doesn't quite get there.

On the other hand, if you are serious about Republican women looking up to Palin as a role model, then your syntax and orthography are very telling: you are the archetypical Palin supporter.

If that makes me an elitist, so be it. I know I do not want a hockey mom, or another intellectually lazy person for that matter, as president, whatever the party.

Being a Democrat, I welcome Sarah onto the national stage. Her doing so will not only drive the wooden stake into the heart of Republicanism, but bury the coffin as well.

She is a polarizer and only plays to the raw-meat Republican base. Didn't the 'big poll' on Nov 4'th prove that?

Further, she went around and was inciting crowds to violence during the campaign. McCain realized this and had to tone her way way down.

But hey, what do I know? She should probably team up with Dan Quail though, and run on a platform that stupidity is really ok.

It seemed a bit mysterious why Governor Palin's health records were such a secret, and only released on the eve of the election.

She was adamantly determined to keep those personal health records from advanced public scrutiny, most unusual stance for a candidate for such high office. What on earth was the lady hiding so grimly?

Could it be that, since the date of her first delivery is known and also the date of her marriage, being a public record, is also known . . . that her health records would reveal this first birth was not premature, but full term, and that it strongly indicated the conception occurred before her marriage?

And that is exactly what the medical record showed, that the birth of her first child was full "term," which means 9 months, plus or minus 2 weeks. Yet the lady gave birth only 8 months after her elopement marriage. Such marriages are often rushed, for pregnancy reasons, and that seems to have been the case here.

This certainly would have been damaging in the election for one who professes such fundamentalist views and such personal virtue as the Alaska governor. She, after all, has been an ardent promoter of premarital chastity and abstinence, and an equally ardent opponent of sex education.

Seems to make her a total hypocrite, no?

To quote Paul Begala - and he apparently drew flack for this - about Bush, Sarah Palin is a "high fashion moron". She's not stupid any more than Bush is, but her completely self-absorbed focus decorated with group-focus-honed catch phrases amounts to stupidity. Completely devoid of reflection and incapable of an honest answer to any question I've seen her asked. She's fun to watch like a train wreck is, after a short while you want to throw up. I don't think Alaska realized who she was - they seem to be sweetly modest up there - and I expect she doesn't have much of a future there either. My suggestion - that she take over for Vanna White on "Wheel of Fortune" with the puzzles keyed to her catch phrases like "Pals around with terrorists". She isn't capable of a higher level of public discourse than that.

I think that ideals of rural America and other parts of these United States can be pretty scary when people are not exposed to the competitive life in or near a major city. They stay too simple. That was the problem for Sarah 'Painlin'. She just doesn't have it to do more for us folks who already know what needs to be done and how to do it. She has not been socialized as to how the majority of the United States works. reminds me of Gomer Pyle a little bit.

Even Obama's stealth lover Chris Matthews called Africa a country. But you don't hear that even from Olbermann, Shuster or Maddow.
One thing to remember, Capehart. Your candidate, did not win the election. His victory was either bought or stolen, and we're not talking "Florida recount stolen". Stolen by fraudulent registrations and voting. You know it, we know it. We won't forget it.

I haven't seen any of the whole interviews, but I have seen the clips where Matt Lauer asks her something and she responds. What amazes me is what she says to defend herself. She says the clothes were bought before she even go to the convention. This is easily provable. Let's look at the receipts and the credit card statements. What were the dates there? This will prove who is lying. She says dumb things like, "The only thing I asked for was maybe a diet Dr. Pepper every now and then." Who believes that she just sat there quietly and raised her hand and said, "Can I please have a diet Dr. Pepper?" Last night I saw that she totally revised Katie Couric's newspaper question so that it appeared Ms. Couric was saying what do you people read up there in Alaska and Ms. Palin got all annoyed with the tone of the question. Maybe Ms. Palin needs to rewatch that interview.

I would also be interested to know who was paying Joe the Plumber to travel around with McCain and Palin in the last weeks of the campaign.

I'll never be counted among Rudy Giuliani's biggest fans, but before Giuliani got into New York City politics he was already an accomplished attorney, with the convictions and Justice Department bona fides to prove it. Sarah Palin, by contrast, was and remains a small-time local politician in a oil-rich state that sends its residents royalty checks instead of asking them to pay taxes.

The woman is ignorant. She needs a guide dog and a couple of sherpas to navigate her way from one end of a complete English sentence to the other. She made herself a national laughingstock within weeks. I understand Gov. Palin's appeal to the people who still believe George W. Bush has been a great President, and maybe it's best that she not fade away, keep herself in the public eye, and force Republicans to decide now if this is the kind of leadership they want.

I wish at least one interviewer would have the guts to ask Palin the following types of questions:

(1) In seeking the office of VP, why did you bill yourself as an Average Joe? Specifically, why do you think Americans want someone "average" leading their country any more than they'd want an average person performing their surgery? In other words, can't one be of above-average intelligence but still understand the plight of average Americans?
(2) Don't you fear that your intellectual mediocrity and inarticulateness send the message to children that a solid education is not important?
(3) Did it not dawn on you that the 2008 election results were a sign from God that he wants to "shut the door" on your political career?

The very last thing the GOP needs right now is another George W. Bush carrying the banner for the party. Bush governed from a very narrow place in the American electorate and it consumed him. That 25% to 30% who fiercely still defend him are the very same people who constitute Palin's base.

The thought of her in the White House is troubling enough just based on her demonstrable ignorance on so many levels. Bush was bad enough but at least he had enough saving grace to try and turn things around when he saw how his administration was crumbling. From what I have seen of Palin, she would not have even the minimal skill required to admit when things are going badly. Instead, whatever the conditions around her, she would simply "plow through" no matter how disastrous the direction.

Sara Palin needs obtain tutoring in grammar if she wants to go anywhere in politics. How can an intelligent person vote for someone who mangles English so badly as to distort meaning? Most of the time I can't even track to the end of her sentences---which often don't end, the words just stop. Her dropping of "g" at the end of gerunds, constant use of contractions and use of the vernacular versions of verbs (e.g., "gonna') make her at least appear stupid. She may actually be smart, but it's hard to tell by what comes out of her mouth.

Where is obama hiding at these days, while the country is in turmoil? Organizing a movement in Chicago? You are going to get what you deserve and that ain’t pretty. You are seeing that people in this country have lost their faith in this country. And this will continue. Now, eventually, you will have to constructively criticize the new leada. That is of course unless we are going back to the 60's and he is an equal opportunity president that has his chair because it meets the quota system. Now that Palin has gone, just what are you going to do? You had better be careful about what you write about obama because you will get canned. Funny, eh?

Calvin3-- What rock have you been hiding under? Could have sworn that I saw in yesterday's newspapers that Obama and family were being received at the White House. Organizing his white house staff, and deliberating on who to choose for his cabinet have also been in the news. But maybe these pursuits don't measure up to the cutting/burning of brush on the mega-acre ranch back home as important enough for your notice.
And, as for Palin, what was McCain thinking?

Posted by: paleodoc | November 13, 2008 5:13 PM | Report abuse

We voted NO to culture warriors!
Sarah Petroleum was a fledging demagogue when she was tapped by McCain. With the tender and unchallenging interviews that the MSM (post election!) have provided she has now prefected the art of demagoguery. Powell said it first!
OUR problem is that Sarah Petroleum does not want to WORK on her skills as a policy leader, she wants to prefect her skills as a culture warrior.
Did any of you see the interview with Matt Laeur - her daughter was asked by Laeur about her experience on the campaign trail and was she ready for 2012 - the child said she did not like the rallies - Sarah Petroleum corrected her! No challenges from any media about how she used her children as props; Cindy McCain of all people should have stomped on the woman's arches for the way she carried Trig to the rallies like a token.
The only way to get rid of her is to ignore her. But will the media do this - will you?

Posted by: ebsguss | November 13, 2008 5:51 PM | Report abuse

While I think it's ok for her to be in the news a little at first, just to set the record straight, it is time for her to go

She is still trying to create doubt about Obama by bringing up Ayers time and time again, keep the dems honest - she is just bile and wants to poison the happiness of the democrats and the country just because she lost. She is a sore loser.

McCain said the country doesn't want a sore loser, well she is one and the news keeps putting her out there.

Hopefully she will go away and start learning some things so she stops looking stupid and stops giving professional women a bad name. Her ambitous nature is not serving her well. It is always about her followed by how much she loves the country.

I pray that God doesn't open up any more doors. Since she herself said God would do the right thing on election day, does she not get that God closed the door on her and she needs to go home.

Governor Sarah Palin seem much more confident and stronger than ever after the election. She is tough and determined.
Too bad the media did not focus on her reputation as a fighter against corruption, an expert on energy, and a voice
for modern American women balancing work and family. She's wonderful, and I know we haven't seen the last of her!

Posted by: lynnL123 | November 13, 2008 8:55 PM | Report abuse

The media must have something more important to cover with all that is going on these days.
For all are accusations against the media, she is having no problem using them, these days.
We are tired of The Sarah Palin Saga!.
She must hate her job.
Hello! Alaska, haven't you noticed she is in a hurry to get out of Alaska.
At least she has a job, thanks to Alaska.
She has not been in office her full term, maybe it isn't exciting enough.
What is the deal with her?
Doesn't she have a wedding to plan?
Children to raise?

She cannot get enough attention and doesn't understand the election is over.
If she were smart she would just do her job.
Her attack days are over and the more she talks the more people will attack her, because she is doesn't care what she says.
She can still incite people that are discontent, racist, and extreme.
Does she think this group is all she would need to get elected?

Sarah did attract some unstable people at her rallys. People demonstrating fear and willing to believe whatever lies she kept repeating. They didn't care about facts, neither did she, and she is still doing this.
They kept saying she is pretty, a mom and so on. well, when the so called hockey mom went on a shopping spree, some moms reaized she was not like them. They could barely afford Walmart. And she wondered why people were making an issue out of this. It is as if she just doesn't get it.
She is a star!

The group that became her fans were the base, that is Pro life, which says, they will support anyone even if they are not competant to run for a particular office.
Thank God! the country is more moderate and educated.

She may have talked herself into the Alaska, governor position in the same way she did on the campaign trail, with attacks.
I wonder if she could do that again after many saw a different side of her.

This constant conparison between her and God is annoying.
Who does she think she is?
Her ego is showing!
All this talk about the poor Sarah is also annoying, she, is ready to jump right in again, Why? Hasn't her family sacrificed enough on her behalf?
The comment she made while her little girl was present about school was a prime example, of how she thinks.
She said," the little one learned more then being in school behind a desk and asked the child's opinion, expecting her to agree.
Does she think two years on the road is really the best way to raise children.

Let's face it! It is all about Sarah!
She and all her so called straight talk, in the end it is about Sarah and her small world.
If God thought she was ready he would have parted the seas, by her admission, It is God's will she follows.

Instead, I think he sent her a message. Stay where you belong!

Let's not give the divisive, sneering, partisan hack Giuliani any more credit than is due. He ignored security advice against putting emergency response coordination inside a main NYC terrorist target; this resulted in more deaths of emergency response officials. He never accepted blame for this, but rather ran on his 'experience responding to terrorism'. His Convention speech was trite, hateful, and racist--exactly what the country doesn't need.

Did anybody bother to check out the NY Times article about Palin? The one that sez she NEVER had an interview with anyone about Africa.

There has been such a smear campaign on that woman. After bloggers in the 1000s have made cracks about her going back to Africa and her stupidity, come to find out....she never said it.

The media can dig deep when they want to. Funny how it's so selective with their selective investigative journalism.

I was going to leave a serious post asking palin to just return to Alaska so that I can watch TV again without seeing her foolishness. She is like a guest who came for lunch and ends up having breakfast the next morning. The only other people that I've seen who just won't leave are those kirby vacuum salespeople who won't leave your house until you buy something. However, after laughing through many of these posts, I kind of hope that she stays around for just a few more days (but only a few). This stuff is some of the best true comedy that I have ever seen.

As a Democrat, I sure would like to watch this blunder brain stay around to assure a continued Obama reign.

But as a person of reality, and one who may one day again be led by the GOP, I feel they need to drop her asap.

For them to regain any form of leadership they need to take a note from Obama -clean, organized, unified, and led by the best and the brightest.

If they do wise things in the next 4-8 years I won't feel devistated if they win down the road. But this right wing maniac has to go.

Mr, Capeheart, with respect, your story of how Giuliani "learned" from this loss to become mayor of NYC is fundamentally flawed.

It implies that he developed some new "not squishy!" platform and convinced swathes of voters to switch sides. No. This is extensively documented; comparisons of exit polls between the two mayoral elections show absolutely no change in voting patterns from 1989 to 1993. Giuliani voters stayed Giuliani voters; Dinkins voters stayed Dinkins voters.

The only thing that changed? Guy Molinari, GOP pol boss of Staten Island, was able to game the system. He got a meaningless, dead-on-arrival proposition on the ballot, which said Staten Island should "secede" from the city. It was transparently awful and stupid and worked like a charm: turnout in Staten Island, where Giuliani won over 80% of the vote each time, skyrocketed and pushed Rudy over the top.

The fact that the party is now seriously considering fire-breathing mob-inciting culture warrior Gov. I was seriously considering voting for McCain until he picked Palin. Sarah-Simpleton is truly a trainwreck and I can't seem to make myself look away. I can't wait to hear what she has to say next. I guarantee it will include her pet words, "perhaps, though, there, also and too". Yesterday she said "also" 4 or 5 times in one sentence. Her syntax of run-on sentences keeps me entertained...much like I would be at the circus, not listening to a national political figure.

If the GOP ever want to be taken seriously again, it needs to reestablish its credibility and must call her out for what she is...a star seeking celebrity, not a serious intellectual leader. The real GOP leaders, those not blinded by her beauty, must gnash their teeth whenever they speak of her.

She has made it this far only on her physical attractiveness, otherwise who cares. It's past time for someone with an "R" by their name call her out, to be credible beyond "the base".

Gov Palin is out there because the insane MSM is keeping her out there. Certainly, some of her answers were at best naive, but not as stupid as David Shuster's comment on her Africa (a country or a continent) response, since that comment was made up and the MSM was duped.

Posted by: Boray1 | November 13, 2008 9:05 AM
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Oh, where to start. First the comments about her not knowing whether Africa was a country vs. a continent was NOT false, the person who claimed to be the SOURCE of the comment was what was false. The comment still stands. I watch Hardball basically everyday and heard Chris Matthews' comments live, he did not say Africa was a country, thus nothing to report by Olbermann, Maddow or anyone else.

Second - how was the election stolen? Did you not see the long lines and record turn out? Did you hear about anyone showing up to vote under the names of Mickey Mouse? No, because there is a difference between voter REGISTRATION fraud and actual voter fraud. If people had turned up and voted under false names that would have been fraud, that did not happen. Thus the election was NOT STOLEN.

Get over it, your candidate lost. Ours won fair and square.

I do not believe Sarah Palin is as intelligent or as curious as Giuliani so expanding her knowledge of "global issues" will be harder than it was for Giuliani to "change and harden on issues of crime, "quality of life," homelessness, and welfare for NYC"

And it was a liberal member of Congress who advocated a new era of McCarthyism by raising the proposition that people should be delineated into "anti-American" and "pro-American" views, and it was a liberal who rallied folks around the idea of "real America", "real Virginia", etc.

Her Answer: "A Vice President job is to be a team player with the President.
Vice President preside over the Senate and can have the authority to make policy decision making over the senators"
Comment: oh my gad! this woman is an idiot. And to think she is giving this answer to third graders who most likely know more of the answer than what she has given.
For your information MORON WOMAN...THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION IS: THE ROLE OF THE VP IS TO TAKE OVER IMMEDIATELY IN CASE WHEN THE PRESIDENT IS INCAPACITATED.
AS VP, WILL PRESIDE OVER THE SENATE ONLY TO BREAK A TIE VOTE, NONE OTHER...PERIOD.
(b) Q: What REFORM did she say she will undo when she gets to Washington?
Her Answer: "When I find one I get it to yah"
Comment: She has no clue?
(c) Q: What reading material does she read in Alaska?
Her Answer: "Everything that is right before me"
Comment: The woman does not read anything reason she can't name one.
(d) Q: What Supreme Court decision does she disagree on besides Wade vs Roe?
Her Answer: "Wade vs Roe"
Comment: The moron can not even name one landmark supreme court decision besides Wade vs Roe.
(e) Q: What does she think about the BUSH DOCTRINE?
Her Answer: "In what respect Charlie?"
Comment: gush! She is about the only person in the world that has no idea what was the Bush Doctrine. In what respect is she talking about? THERE IS ONLY ONE DOCTRINE...NOT SEVERAL...so what ever respect is she talking about SHE DON'T KNOW

I think we all need to cut Sarah Palin some slack. After all, she is from Alaska which has among the highest per capita incidence of alcoholism, rape and incest, i.e., she is from one of those "un-American" parts of our nation. In addition, she has no doubt been affected by the company she keeps, including a corrupt, convicted Senator, witch doctors, and secessionists. In other words, she has been palling around with people who do not see America as you and I do.

I think Palin's Alaskan newspaper put it quite nicely: She is out of her range. I don't think Sarah Palin in much on knowledge but thinks she can get by with looks and a wink. Unfortunately for her, the Presidency or Vice Presidency of the US is far too serious to gamble with a person who thinks more of herself than undertanding the world around her.

She is probably a nice person, but what she has shown does not inspire confidence. You can't change yourself in 4 years. If she were a student of history, she would have known many of the questions she couldn't answer.

She is NOT ready for a National office and won't ever be. She has 5 children to take care of and a job that requires a few hours per day. Unlike Obama, she had no thrist of knowledge as a young woman so she probably won't be interested no.

She is more suited for a talk show or SNL!

Palin has accomplished more in Alaska than the empty suit his whole life. Capehart, you can join the other Obama Pimps in the media that trashed all journalistic ethics and campaign finance reform and jumped in bed with Obama. Here's what a ETHICAL Journalists for ABC Michael Malone had to say about Obama Pimps like you:

The traditional media are playing a very, very dangerous game -- with their readers, with the Constitution and with their own fates.
The media have covered this presidential campaign with a bias and that ultimately could lead to its downfall.
The sheer bias in the print and television coverage of this election campaign is not just bewildering, but appalling. And over the last few months I've found myself slowly moving from shaking my head at the obvious one-sided reporting, to actually shouting at the screen of my television and my laptop computer.
But worst of all, for the last couple weeks, I've begun -- for the first time in my adult life -- to be embarrassed to admit what I do for a living. A few days ago, when asked by a new acquaintance what I did for a living, I replied that I was "a writer," because I couldn't bring myself to admit to a stranger that I'm a journalist.
You need to understand how painful this is for me. I am one of those people who truly bleeds ink when I'm cut. I am a fourth-generation newspaperman. As family history tells it, my great-grandfather was a newspaper editor in Abilene, Kan., during the last of the cowboy days, then moved to Oregon to help start the Oregon Journal (now the Oregonian).
