Levi Johnston's Smarmy Tale

In the year and counting since she burst onto the political scene, I haven’t been Sarah Palin’s biggest fan. Charitable would not be the word that comes to mind in describing my atitude toward the former Alaska governor.

Finally, though, I find myself in Palin’s corner -- pushed there by Levi Johnston, her former future son-in-law, and the father of her grandson. Johnston offered up to Vanity Fair an insider account -- you might think of it as do-more-than-kiss-and-tell -- about life in the Palin household.

Johnston’s smarmy account of life with Sarah and Todd makes Jon and Kate look like Ozzie and Harriet. Sarah supposedly only talked to Todd when arguing or bossing him around; Todd spent his nights on the living room recliner. The supposed hockey mom barely turned up at Track’s games; the supposed doting mother of a Down’s Syndrome baby dumped his care on her daughter Bristol.

He depicts Palin "on the living room couch in her two-piece pajama set from Walmart -- she had all the colors -- with her hair down, watching house shows and wedding shows on TV." Todd, for his part, was in the garage sneaking beers. "There wasn’t much parenting in that house," Johnston says. "Sarah doesn’t cook, Todd doesn’t cook -- the kids would do it all themselves: cook, clean, do the laundry, and get ready for school." (Palin kids: want to come to my house? I have a tough time getting mine to make their own beds.)

Is any of this true -- the talk of divorce, Sarah’s secret plan to adopt Tripp? I don’t know. Would anybody’s household look especially attractive if its inner workings were splashed on the pages of Vanity Fair by someone with every motive to accentuate the negative? I know mine wouldn’t.

Johnston is an opportunistic creep; his claim to fame is having gotten his teenage girlfriend pregnant when her mother happened to be the governor of Alaska and a soon-to-be vice presidential nominee. Only in America can this be a springboard to a modeling and acting career. "I could go out and do movies, maybe one day even end up as a celebrity," Johnston muses. If you watch the "behind-the-scenes" video of Johnston on the Vanity Fair website, you can see him sitting in the back of a limousine discussing an offer to pose for Playgirl magazine. "I’d do it," Johnston says.

I bet. Sarah Palin didn’t deserve to be vice president -- but she didn’t deserve this either.

What a wonderful technique, Ruth!

First you establish your moral superiority by stating what a sleeze, Levi Johnston is. Then you go on to repeat, hype, and sensationalize everything disgusting thing he said about Sarah Palin, while at the same time expressing your disgust over his actions.
It reminds me of the holier-than-thou preacher, who has to watch that porn movie three or four more times, so he can fully describe how horrible and disgusting it is.

How truly Obama, um...er, transparent of you.

Just think, people will get to read and re-read and rehash everything when Palin publishes her memoirs... oh the joy.

Posted by: mimo1 | September 3, 2009 10:51 AM | Report abuse

First off, Levi is in the position of being able to sound off in a national magazine because Sara used him for window dressing. Everything about Sarah Palin has been smoke and mirrors and it shouldn't be a surprise that the truth comes out. I wouldn't care except that she still is in a position of influence.

Levi is like the kid who said the emperor has no clothes. He's the one person that can't be manipulated by Sarah. She made a big mistake by making him mad because despite all the character assassination about him (sort of like her brother-in-law that she tried to get fired), there isn't anything she can do.

Levi is not prize, but he does appear to be real, something I can't say for Sarah.

Exactly correct, Ruth, Johnston is an opportunistic creep.

Although I'm still amazed that John McCain thought it was perfectly fine to put such an unqualified person in a position to run our country should anything happen to him as President, she does not deserve this kind of public exposure and Johnston should really be ashamed. I hope none of his grandiose "dreams" come true; he should go back to being an electrician. I'm sure he'll be good at that.

The unintended consequence that the GOP gets in choosing Palin because she has a very compelling personal story and is a charismatic individual is that she will continue to command the attention of the People and National Enquirer crowd for years.

If her family looks disfunctional upon closer scrutiny, we must remember that she and her handlers were the ones who trotted them all out in suits and dresses to be accesories to her candidacy for VP. Palin made them public figures, now she gets to deal with it.

At one point in late summer 2008 I thought they were going to have a shotgun wedding of Levi and Britol on stage at one of her rallies. The lad gets his just pay-backs now. His story seems like a truthful one.

You buy the ticket, you take the ride.

Levi's rise to celebrity status is actually Sarah Palin's fault. The first time we were introduced to her on national TV, with John McCain, she included her children. Bristol was hiding a pregnancy, and sure enough, a few days later, Palin proudly announced that the 17-yr-old was indeed pregnant. The boyfriend was brought forward by her. He appeared at all her big speeches after that. We got to see and wonder at both these young people.

Any responsible parent would not expose her minor children to intense scrutiny by all Americans. I can only imagine that she thought -- naively -- that her attractive bunch would make her look like a good mother. She wanted sympathy and attention for being a mother.

She ought to have taken advice from Hillary Clinton, who never pushed Chelsea in front of cameras. Or from many prior candidates, from both sides. She chose to parade her children, over and over, not just one time. She chose to announce how happy she was over this union of her daughter with Levi. She said she was proud of them.

Then when it all fell apart, the genie was already out of the bottle. She'd been granted her three wishes for attention. And now she has to take responsibility for his being a celebrity.

I don't blame anyone but her for the sleasy sideshow that her family's life has become. I certainly do not feel sorry for her.

I do feel sorry for all the children, and always have.

It does not say much for Vanity Fair or any magazine that uses this silly punk about any subject. He is more than disgusting and should be kept at a distance from his son. He obviously does not care about him.

Posted by: Leedixe | September 3, 2009 11:12 AM | Report abuse

Yes. Johnston should shut up already. But at the same time, the media should stop reporting on everything former-Gov. Palin says and does. She has shown herself to be shallow, opportunistic, devoid of any semblance of common sense or thoughtful viewpoint. She is the definition of a created celebrity - plucked from the obscurity she deserves by a desperate McCain campaign. The media continues to give her credibility by reporting on her when she has nothing of substance to offer.

My view of last fall's Vice Presidential Debate still stands: There were two people on that stage who were qualified to be VP of the United States - Joe Biden and Gwen Ifill.

Levi may not be a prince or a prize. But Sarah Palin is not Mother or the YEAR material nor Presidential material.

While Levi may be exagerrating a bit, I believe there are bits of truth in here. And that is scary should PALIN want to become PRESIDENT.

GOD forbid we have a PRESIDENT wearing Wal-MART loungewear in the oval office.

Dear Ruthie: Well, aren't you just magnanimous in your defense of Sarah Palin? Where were you, dear, when, no, not David Letterman, not Comedy Central, not left-wing zealots in basements, BUT YOUR VAUNTED AND ESTEEMED AND PULITZER-PRIZE-WINNING COLLEAGUES WERE SO AFRAID OF SARAH HAVING ANY INFLUENCE THEY TRASHED HER UNMERCIFULLY, AND STILL DO? Yes, Levi is a little punk. So the lesson we take from all this is that you and your ilk are able to beat up on ambitious women and little teenaged punks.

Levi Johnston does not make the best son-in-law. Lew Johnston believes in loving and leaving them. His background is high school dropout and mother on drugs. I did not think this was a winner for Palin. Maybe Palin can still run for dog catcher.

Well it's obvious that Palin-Derangement Syndrome is alive and well at the Washington Post.

Why does Sarah scare so many of these elitists? Are they afraid arugala will go out of favor? That people will vote for someone because of their accomplishments instead of the color of their skin? That would sure put a cramp in their worldview, now wouldn't it. We now have that font of wisdom, "plagiarizing Joe Biden", whose drug addled daughter is hidden from the press.
Not that Ruth Marcus would ever write a stern word about a Democrat.
And have we seen enough of Sasha and Malia and Bo? On every stage while campaigning, both with Barry, and Michelle, wearing their designer dresses.
And yet, The crazies don't ever condemn the Chosen One for putting his family on display?

Derangement, absolute derangement. Get treatment for that Ruth.

Hey she put herself out there, they threw him to the curb after using him on the political stage along with all her children every chance she got...She not only used him she used her own children when it was convenient to her.

From everything you read you have to believe she is in it for herself. I can imagine her doing the things he talks about everytime you saw her kid they had the baby in their arms...Yes it is great to have responsibilites but no on the back of a parent success, that is the problem with families.

At least he gets something out of it...and his child will be cared for with the money that Levi will make.

REALLY? What are you talking about...elites, designer dresses, who Obama girls who buy their clothes from the Gap, and Target?...and yes they were on stage in the big moment of a future president (their father hummm)...that is normal and historical...also, he never once complained about it as did Sarah Palin every chance she got and then continued to bring her children and parade them around. Reality Check please!

The reason most don't know about Biden's daughter or why the Obama girls aren't in the lime light is because they haven't paraded their children for their own good. With our without problems they are sheltering their children what a good parent would do!

Two things are required to reasonably run for the top ticket in America: Qualifications, and personal circumstances that will hold up to the scrutiny without becoming an impossible distraction. The first has been discussed ad infinitum, and is/was ultimately decided by the voters. The second will inevitably be torn open and flung about in the public square.

I'm sure I'm not alone, when, upon hearing about Bristol Palin's pregnancy, I thought, "what on earth are McCain and Palin thinking?"

I hope these kids can eventually get on with growing up without evolving into some ongoing grotesque Americana.

OK, but please remember that Obama is friends with Wiliam Ayers, a known terrorist, that was head of the Weather Underground, that went around bombing banks and police stations during the 60's and 70's... As far as Death Panels, you may wish to read the article from the Telegraph, in UK, on the Death Panels that they are subjecting their people to. Please remember, we are looking to the UK as one of our models of perfect health care for our all Americans, not just a select group. The senior protests at the Town Halls happened after they found out that they would lose many of their rights under Medicair and Medicaid.

Marcus like Gail Collins gets on her high horse about Johnston and then gives us all the details. Clearly, she likes a train wreck as much as the rest of us but won't admit it. palin used the kid as a prop and now he's getting his payback. he may not be a Rhoses scholar but he doesn't seem to be saying anything deceitful or outside the realm of possibility. Having mom and pop adopt the bastard child is an old trick and its been done under even less plausible circumstances. That Palin wants to cash in on her won fame is no surprise either. I'm sure that if Levi takes up the offer to appear nude, Marcus will be in high moral anguish and also gives us the beefcake details. Give it rest, Marcus, we know you're just as voyeuristic as the rest of us. Palin and her dysfunctional family will be entertaining us for years to come.

Palin has not a shred of integrity or compassion, and she's a phony in every sense of the word. She used slander (along with winks, lipstick, and high heels) to try and get herself out of Wasilla. Why shouldn't this kid do the same?

Come on, Ruth. Levi Johnston is just a kid. He's a mouthy and brash kid, but a kid nonetheless. If your own kids haven't yet embarrassed you to death in front of others, they will; brace yourself for it.

My advice to you (and Palin)? Don't give those kids megaphones unless you know for certain what is coming out of their mouths (and you never will). If you choose to advance your own career by putting your kids in positions of high visibility, then don't complain when they fail to act as you wish them to. That's the risk you take.

Levi Johnston may lack judgment, but he's a teenager. Sarah Palin is not, yet her judgment is no better than his. Did she really think she would win a public mud-slinging contest with a teenager who has nothing to lose? She's just lucky he wasn't devious enough to video record his whole experience in that household.

Johnston didn't "get" the daughter pregnant all by himself, as if he raped her. She and Johnston accidentally "became" pregnant. Marcus's tired old outdated 1980s feminist man-hate is showing again. Marcus's animosity toward the "impregnator" colors everything else she thinks. A 19-year-old can tell whether two people argue constantly, and that's something a 19-year-old house guest would not see in MY house, because it doesn't reflect my family life. A 19-year-old can also tell if the kids, as compared to kids of other local families, are stuck doing most of the domestic work because NEITHER parent is adequately performing the adult role. Lastly, I fail utterly to see what Playgirl magazine has to do with any of this. Marcus apparently views that as some sort of condemning character revelation. In contrast, of course, she scream 1980s feminism apologies if it were Bristol being "exploited" by Playboy. This cartoonish brand of feminism is dead for a very good reason.

Palin and Johnston both have had abundant motives to misrepresent their private lives, so let's take a mulligan on this dispute and stick with observation-based judgments we can make.

From her Couric interviews, we know that Palin is a bimbo that we should all be thankful isn't a 72-year-old heartbeat away from the president. From his actions we know that Johnston is a teenager who knocked up his daughter-of-someone-notable girlfriend, stumbled most of the way into marriage to her, broke it off at a moment which left lingering questions, and is now trying to convert the experience into a showbiz career.

Can we please relegate the both of them to the Style section already?

Posted by: hayesap8 | September 3, 2009 1:06 PM | Report abuse

I just got through watching his partial interview on CBS News. My impressions about people are usually spot on, and so this is my take if it means anything.

1. He said right off the bat (interview) he would pose for Playgirl, "Heck ya...." That means he would pretty much do anything for money. If he does not respect himself, he might not others.

2. He said 'I never SEE them sleep together'. Why would he be watching for them to sleep? Does that mean he was a live in boyfriend all the time? Pretty broad and generic, but inflammatory.

3. He had a chance to be part of the family but decided otherwise. He is only hurting his chances of seeing his son and/or enjoying the benefits of the Palins welcoming him as father. In other words he is burning bridges.

4. He speaks very loosely about people and does not respect where they are coming from, but only hears what he wants. To disparage another person or group of people, bears false witness against them. That means gossip, slander, libel or inciting the emotions of one against another. If I am correct you can find this in the 10 commandments. You think that is what God was speaking about when he made those commands for all of us?

5. When are we (society) going to put restraints on subject matters that are only going to divide people. It is one thing to have a lively debate, competition or discussion; but to air something that is harmful to another is wrong, I believe. I call this 'profit over principle'. It seems we have gotten away from dignity and integrity for whatever reason.

As far as Levi goes, he would be wise to say little and go about his life no matter how 'distracting' the Palin's are to him. Whether he is right or wrong, eventually the truth always comes out. The Palin's don't need his help in any form.

Levi it is time to grow up and be a father to the only child you have right now. Quit being selfish and denigrating others because your son inherits your talents but can also inherit your traits. Change those traits before he has a chance to really figure out what is going on with you.

I came from small town America 77 years ago. My parents and grandparents also! My great grandfather walked from Pittsburg to California during the gold rush, took him five months. All Republicans, all conservites, all small town, so am I, but don't put me in your small town, Neverleft. Sarah Palin is at best, a sad joke and unfortunatly an even sadder reminder of the state the party,I have supported all my life, until the last election..

"If you are going to live your life like a 20-car pileup, don't be surprised when people slow down and gawk."

Exactly. And mark my words we haven't heard the last of this kid. I have a feeling the GOP is planning an unfortunate hunting accident as we speak...

"they let him live in their house, they stabbed him in the back.."

Really? How exactly was that?

Sounds like they were a bit more charitable than he was?

To the blind Obamabots, Sasha and Malia were put on display by People magazine, Time, US, Newsweek, and dozens of others. How do you know they were wearing GAP and Target? Because they were on display? But was ever a bad word spoken about their parents using them for political purposes? No, of course not.

Barry did say "leave my kids alone" right after he used them as a foil for his "I wouldn't want them to be punished by having a baby" quote.

Nothing in our media's history can compare to the media frenzy/attack over Palin's family. Her daughter's pregancy was mentioned 3 times on the front page of the New York Times in the same issue!

open your eyes.

Palin's kids were on stage when she was announced as VP candidate, so was Biden's and so were Obama's. She was assaulted by the left wing media, and they were......praised.

Get real.

"'Sarah doesn’t cook, Todd doesn’t cook -- the kids would do it all themselves: cook, clean, do the laundry, and get ready for school.' (Palin kids: want to come to my house? I have a tough time getting mine to make their own beds.)"

"Johnston’s smarmy account of life with Sarah and Todd makes Jon and Kate look like Ozzie and Harriet. Sarah supposedly only talked to Todd when arguing or bossing him around; Todd spent his nights on the living room recliner. The supposed hockey mom barely turned up at Track’s games; the supposed doting mother of a Down’s Syndrome baby dumped his care on her daughter Bristol."

Boy Marcus, you're a hoot! Unfortunately you can't seem to understand that failing to care for your children's health and well being is a form of child abuse.

Maybe Levi Johnston wasn't just a dead headed, toothless hockey player to begin with. He seemed pretty smart to leave what would have been a life in hell!

Um, Ruth, no one would know who Levi Johnston was if Sarah Palin hadn't bought him a new suit with her $150K wardrobe "allowance", gotten him a haircut and flown him to the Republican Convention last year, using him, his girlfriend and their unborn child as window dressing for her campaign. Seeing those poor kids on stage, having their private failings and decisions played out 24/7 was excrutiating and convinced me within 15 minutes that I wouldn't want anything to do with a politician who would so use her family and subject them to examination and ridicule. Smarmy is a two-way street. During the election we were regularly reminded of Pailn's parenting skills (as those the skills were indicative of her ability to lead) and the balance she maintained between home and professional life. It's apparent it was all an act - both sides of her life.

The only story here is don't we expect better out of Vanity Fair. It's all a bunch of "So What?" -- The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight (GOP, "The Straight Shooter Express") nominated for Veep The Hockey Mom (ahem) Who Couldn't Shoot!

All we get from the GOP is "Holy"-wood fiction, anyway.

In many ways Palin invented him -- certainly promoted him -- on stage at the GOP convention in '08. She didn't have to parade him out there in front of millions of people, she chose to. Now he's exposing all of her ugly warts, but he's doing it the free market way: for profit! Is that what's got everyone in such an uproar?

If she holds herself out as a family woman and the truth doesn't support it, the American people deserve to know the truth. It's like selling Coke zero but sneaking in all the sugar. I don't have a problem with that teen dishing on the reprehensible, opportunistic governor.

"Her small-town values are the epitomy of everything the liberal elite hates and despises." And what small town values would those be? Teenage pregnancy? Meth manufacturing? When will we finally kill off the myth that America is a country of "small towns". The US has not been a predominantly rural country since the 1910 census. As of the 2000 census 86% of the US population lives in urban areas. I expect the 2010 census to show that this trend has continued over the last 10 years. The "small towns" of the US are irrelevant except to those who live their lives in the past.

well, well, Ruth - didn't you knock down a hornet's nest!?! If I have absorbed the comments accurately: most applaud Levi for stepping out and telling "his" truths. There are a fair amount of right-wingers trying to hang this sorry tale on the left and the 'liberal media'(sorry, I have NEVER understood what that means; except it seems to indicate that if these folks agree with the story than the media is acceptable and republican oriented, otherwise it's all trash-HUH??!) Then there are thankfully those like Pfft, who see the humor in the whole sorry tale. Ms Palin wants out of Alaska and Wasilia, don't blame her. Being mayor of the meth capital of Alaska cannot have been a happy chore. Being Governor of Alaska even less so. Then, Ms Palin up and quits trying to hang her decision on not wanting to cost the taxpayers money because she isn't going to run again, and being a lame duck governor she couldn't possibly put forward any legislation that would help her constituency. (Double HUH??) It would be informative to learn what legislation she put forward during her term of governor, before she became famous and all, that DID help her constituency. But I digress. Levi did what everyone is doing these days, grabbing the 15 minutes while it's still worth some bucks. How very American. Don't understand all the rancor. If what he says is true, he deserves the money. If it is not true, Vanity Fair joins a long line of tabloid media promoting slurs and slanders that later turn out to be not so much. Still, how very American. To the apologists for Ms Palin, who are willing to continue to try to find real meaning in her push for the vice presidency, I extend my sympathies. I am reminded of Eva Braun. There were many who found her to be a positive role model for women also.

Posted by: e2verne | September 3, 2009 3:16 PM | Report abuse

Levi Johnston is nothing but another prop in Sarah Palin's charade. She paraded him and her entire family around as symbols of wholesomeness-- and "good American values." But fortunately enough people were able to see through the new haircuts, designer clothes, and manufactured images to realize that with Sarah, there was very little "there, there."
From all her attacks on the media, you would think that would have realized that when she (and her extended family) found their way into the spotlight, the Media might actually, eventually begin asking a few questions, exploring for just a few more facts, examples, comments, answers, reading lists. And lo and behold, the Media discovered that you can take an Alaskan to Saks Fifth Avenue, and clean them up some, but that doesn't make her Vice Presidential material, or a writer worthy of Vanity Fair.

Levi Johnston is the Kato Kailin of 2008; but it is 2009 already, and like Kato, he will probably be remembered for the nothing that he really is. He's not even a Paris Hilton!
Skate on, Levi. Oh, and get a job. Sarah doesn't believe in government handouts (unless they are to her).

Nonsense. First off, quote the actual article please.

Second the American model would be closest to the French model, not the British.

And using the government system would be OPTIONAL.

And you seriously don't think private health insurance in the US rations end-of-life care? Really?

And the ultimate Death Panel rationing is when you have absolutely no care available, which is what tens of millions of your fellow Americans have now.

Even if there were 'Death Panels' the actual number of old people getting better health care would go up dramatically since the uninsured would at least have some care instead of none.

As a Moderate, with a Liberal lean, I have this much to say on the matter:

What Levi is doing is completely classless. How sleazy to trash your former girlfriend's family in national magazines, and on national TV. But, given his personal history, I am not surprised. No one taught him any better, between his own parents and the Palins.

On the other hand, I have not one iota of sympathy for Sarah Palin. She brought this on herself. She chose to parade her children around like prize bulls, for the sake of earning sympathy, accolades, and ultimately votes from fellow mothers. The Obamas, Clintons, Bushes, etc. all kept their children out from the media's eye. Why didn't she?

Furthermore, why has she continued to show up in the media? She has continued to make her presence known, between personal feuds with Levi, her Op-Ed in WaPo, her delusional rants against Obama's efforts to reform healthcare, as well as various other media stunts. In fact, she didn't even rant or criticize the Healthcare Bill. She told outright lies! THEN, she again, drags that poor 14-year-old of hers into the media circus with that incident with Letterman. She went on and on, demanding an apology from Letterman (which she received) and ranting incoherently about statutory rape-- something totally irrelevant to the joke's intent (it was for Bristol). Talk about beating a dead horse; she just wouldn't let. it. go.

Now, the entire family is in a fishbowl, their dirty laundry exposed for all to see. Well, Sarah, you made your bed. Now lie in it. That monster you created has turned on you. However, I offer my deepest of sympathies to your poor children.

He does not have the experience or maturity to handle the hurricane of BS that was unloaded on him. Palin did everything she possibly could to coerce, intimidate and manipulate him for her own, and the GOP, agenda. The story he has told, and profited from, has been one of consistent poor behavior of an individual that is too flawed to be ANYWHERE near the corridors of power in this country. In my opinion he's sort of a PATRIOT by telling this inside account and reminding voters that Sarah Palin should not be allowed to gain any traction in the national political arena.

Imagine if Palin had been liberal- in a household of liberals; the babies skull would have been pierced and the brains sucked out to induce death thus resulting in a "non-live birth".

In that instance, all the claims against Palin are absolved and we would be hearing about her in a completly different light.

One small detail of course - to complete the lefts coronation of her as a "modern woman" a person is killed.

Didn't seem to bother them with Kennedy and Byrd so why would it with Palin.

"Imagine if Palin had been liberal- in a household of liberals"

In that case Bristol would have been educated about human sexuality (as opposed to "just say no") and would have had access to and know how to use birth control. There would not have been a pregnancy in the first place. Isn't that better then yet another unwed teen mother to support on the public dole?

Ruth,
why the sympathy for sarah? in my opinion she is a brain dead beauty queen in the mold of Carrie Prejean.

As for the story told by Levi, I find him most credible. He isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, so i think it would be difficult for him to fabricate his story. He is a teen recounting what he has experienced. he is not known to have an original thought when interviewed. Therefore, i can accept his representation of life at the palin household. do you really believe levi could make this up?
if so, you are being naive.

Levi Johnston is an opportunistic creep?

Perhaps there's a message in there for Ms. Palin, from the Bible:
"As ye sow, that also shall ye reap."

Posted by: CuckooRaja | September 3, 2009 5:17 PM | Report abuse

I can't say I have much respect for either of them, but I suspect there's a fair amount of truth to what he is saying.

While there was some of it that should have been kept private (like talk of divorce), exposure of some of Ms. Palin's hypocrisy and facade was much deserved. He also provides a far more credible reason for her quitting as governor mid term than she did, herself. Cryptic would be a generous description of her resignation speech.

So...Ms. Palin quit to cash in on her celebrity. Mr. Johnston is going to cash in on his, while he can.

Levi learned how to be opportunistic from his son's grandmother.... Sarah Palin!

Just as Palin grabbed the golden ring from McCain when he held it out to her, Levi jumped on the bandwagon when SHE invited him and tried to manipulate his life and hide the truth! Palin has always had one person in mind..... HERSELF!

I concluded long ago that there really was NO parenting in the Wasilla Hillbilly's household! The apples don't fall far from the tree! They are all losers, and enjoyed the ride during campaign, feasting and dressing to the nines!

I don't blame Levi Johnson one bit for trying to cash in, everyone else in the Palin family has! I just hope he always remembers that he IS the father of Bristol's child and accepts that responsibilty. If McCain hadn't chosen Palin to be his running mate, poor Levi would be just another Hillbilly from Wasilla fading into the woodwork!

Let's see. It was ok for your Washington peers to dump on Palin from 5,000 miles away, but the kid who was used by the Palin campaign until his mother was prosecuted for drugs and it turned out there would be no marriage, this kid can't grab the spotlight and show you exactly what John McCain was prepared to offer the country, McCain who still goes to the same parties you do. McCain has never been called to account for using Palin- and never will be.

Well, here's one redneck that's hard to tame! Under other circumstances I would agree with those who think this kind of stuff is out of bounds, BUT given that this person wanted to be Vice President of the United States her private life is the "peoples" business.
What people do privately does affect how they behave publicly.

When we elect people to public office we entrust them with our well-being and need someone we can trust and count on to meet those commitments they swore to maintain and keep. When BS artists are thrust into these positions of public trust but not so trustworthy money-grubbing handlers (take Rove and Bush for example) it ends in disaster.

Outing Sarah is an effective way to weed out those that don't deserve our trust (vote) and are not competent in doing the "peoples" work.

I live in Wasilla, have met Sarah and know many people who have known her and Todd most of their lives. I hate to burst the leftist's bubble but Levi's story is at best a figment of his imagination and at worst, an outright lie. The one thing I know about the Palin family is the more adversity they face, the stronger they become. Most of you know nothing about this family other than what you read in the tabloids and your asinine comments are sickening.

As shown by the numerous interesting comments to this article, any discussion about Sarah Palin inspires strong passions and thought provoking opinions. Journalists are actually being "read" and recognized because they mention Sarah Palin's name as cat nip. Like it or not (and I like it), Sarah Palin is going to be a driving force in this country for common sense change away from political apathy for most Americans which has allowed elitists (of both major political parties) to decide the direction of our country. So, keep up the hateful comments (and probably outright lies) about Palin because that results in convincing most of the middle of the road, salt of the earth Americans to stand up, take notice of the political landscape and demand change. I'll just thank you in advance for paving the way for a Palin Presidency!

You got it wrong this time. Palin used this kid, naive and opportunistic though he may be, to project the picture she wanted the voters to see. His haircut wasn't good enough, his clothes weren't good enough, etc., so she re-made him into the image she needed. He may or may not be right on all the family details (and I suspect he's right on a good many of them), but I understand his anger and desire for revenge. From the article: Is any of this true -- the talk of divorce, Sarah’s secret plan to adopt Tripp? I don’t know. ... Johnston is an opportunistic creep.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there any reason to think Johnston lied? I would think he could make up better stuff than this if he had. No doubt he's opportunistic, but a creep? Only if he lied. Don't forget that he needs the money he received to provide for his new family - that ain't easy.

Palin's the one who put herself in the public eye - or allowed herself to be put there. So it's too bad if she doesn't like the result - she should have thought of that sooner.

On the other hand, I agree with the writer that very few of us could stand to have our "dirty laundry" aired in this way.

Since her political career ended with her resignation as Governor, she is no longer in a position to damage this country as she might have done as Vice President.

Therefore, enough already. There's no need to pile more on Palin unless she tries to inject herself into national politics again - as a commentator, or pundit, for example.

Palin's a small person - never large enough to fill the shoes of a national leader. Let's consign her to oblivion and have done with it ...

I am a Alaskan, Levi is sincere even if he now may benefit from spilling the beans. Sarah benefited from a corrupt, slimy Republican party dominated electoral system in Alaska and became Governor. Wasn't qualified. Levi can't spill all the information-perhaps more in a book but a confidentiality agreement may hold him back. Palin pulled the hoax of the century concening Trig-baby #1. She is a female version of Sanford/ensign etc.

Research the timelines, facts and amazing photos at www.palindeception.blogspot.com as well as www.palingates.blogspot.com. If you still believe that this woman gave birth to a baby in 2008 then I have a bridge to nowhere to sell ya all.
The birth certificates for Trig as well as Tripp (baby 2) along with her real medical records that should have been submitted (way before the evening of the election) is what could solve the real reason we still hear from Levi with help from his legal advisors, Rex and Tank.

Stay tuned, Lower 48, you haven't heard anything yet. It gets much better.Sarah will truly be a dead fish going downstream and hopefully South of the borders of Alaska.

A poster questioned what Palin did compared to John Edwards. Here's the thing, Sarah Palin continues, with the help of the "liberal" press, to position herself as some sort of sanctimonious arbiter of morals. She cast Obama as "evil", she continues to dance on the national stage with her twitter feeds, speaking engagements, etc. She and Rush are regarded as the leaders of the "conservative" movement. So, as long as she is out there she is fair game. Sarah Palin used an 18 ear old as a prop. That prop has seen the light and come in to his own. Sarah Palin created the beast -she can live with it. If all that he says is true, I give Levi credit for standing up to the barracuda. So, in a nutshell, as long as the wingnut called Sarah positions herself as a holier-than-thou God substitute, she can take the slings and arrows. At least John Edwards had the decency to crawl back under his rock.

It should be obvious that Levi Johnston could have cashed in on the fame/notoriety thrust upon him by Palin's opportunism in any number of ways, so why would he fabricate this kind of detail if it isn't largely or completely true?

I'm sorry, but this is not your usual situation of keeping private matters private. If any significant part of his story is true, it's obvious that Palin and the GOP fabricated a complete "life story" for the gawkers and rubes to marvel at, but which was apparently completely false. She doesn't hunt moose or wolves, and didn't know how to fire her gun-under-the-bed. She's a lousy mom and wife, a virtually illiterate bimbo spokesmodel who thinks all things are possible for a pretty girl willing to work it with a wink. Hell, she couldn't even name a newspaper or magazine that she MIGHT have read; just a blank stare.

With all the unbelievable heat being hurled at President Obama from the idiots who think Palin is White House material, I have extraordinary difficulty imagining where we would be today if the GOP ticket had won last November.

She is the poster child for Republican dysfunction, a hood ornament on a vehicle driven by the insanely cynical likes of Beck and Limbaugh. Please don't ask for sympathy as if an honest person's private life has been unfairly exposed. She invited us to judge her as a model American conservative woman, and she's a fraud from top to bottom.

The Adventures of Todd and Sarah sounds like a great reality tv show.

Oh, fiddle faddle. The idea that you must take sides in this mud slinging between the Palins and Johnstons is pure bunk. Never have two families deserved each other more. Never have two people deserved each other more than Sarah Palin and Levi Johnston. Two peas in a pod. Two ego-drive, narcissistic personalities who are corrupt to the core of their beings.

The real story here is the one sensible people have focused on--that incredible spectacle last year when John McCain with a straight face introduced this Alaskan trash to America as a Christian family rallying behind their two essentially fine Christian children who had just made a little Christian mistake and were being embraced by a warm, nurturing Christian family who would rally behind them and give them the support to raise their new little Christian baby--without anyone having an abortion. The sublime phoniness of that moment is what deserves to be highlighted. Plus the fact that most of us recognized it for the phoniness it was the moment it occurred.

All this trashing of Levi is amazing. Levi Johnston's character was not formed in the post-election period. The Levi being excoriated by Sarah's fans is the same Levi who appeared on all those stages with John McCain. The sleazy Levi who is milking his notoriety for all it is worth is the exact same Levi whom Sarah Palin welcomed into her home as a fitting suitor and husband for her daughter. The Levi exploiting his relation with Sarah for all it's worth is the same Levi that Sarah exploited for all he was worth to present the phony-baloney smoke-and-mirrors image of the Christian family coping with their prodigal children.

And John McCain presided over it all. Why would anyone believe that John McCain is doing anything but engaging in another round of hypocrisy and lies, anytime he presides over a dog-and-pony show--like the one attacking health care.

Levi is in the news for one reason only, to discredit Sarah Palin. She is gone, why keep her in the news. Her views are well known and discredited due to all her situations, speeches and actions. She was John McCain's Admiral Stockdale. A bad pick.

Now, that being said, Democrats and journalists alike are likely afraid Palin may have future political plans. Her movements and associates, however tenuous, will be used through the 2012 political season to keep her from running (if that is her goal).

Otherwise, Palin would have gone the way of Tom Delay and others, out of the news.

Delay's trial happened and he was convicted, right?

After all her crap, her lies, her rambling musings, and her blatant attempts to foment the worst possible hatred, she deserves whatever she gets. The Wasilla Wombat is the perfect caricature of the slightly educated, overly media promoted redneck. She is willfully ignorant, strives to be divisive, and plays to the worst instincts of a hysterical party base. Time will tell whether his portrayal of her was overblown or understated.

I live in a very nice trailer park in Florida, and we would *not* want either the Palins or the Johnstons as neighbors.

I just read that Chelsea Clinton's long-time ex-boyfriend Evender is preparing a tell-all tale for Vogue Magazine.

Apparently it covers the martiall troubles and the serial womanizing of Bill Clintons family troubles during the Clinton Presidency.

I sure hope all liberals will join me in support of the right of Evender to publish the TRUTH given the shameless way young Chelsea was ignored and exploited by the Clintons.

Nah... they'll no doubt howl at the indignity of it all.

Ruth, being a woman does not make Palin infallable.

I'd be more (or even somewhat) sympathetic if Palin hadn't made her home and family life such a centerpiece of the campaign.

"what on earth are McCain and Palin thinking?"

McCain was probably thinking, how can I make certain I don't get elected so I won't have to inherit this debacle? Palin, Hmm, Palin / thinking? Is that the definition of oxymoron?
