Lou Dobbs is a special case

By Edward Schumacher-Matos

A coalition of Hispanic and progressive groups crowed today about the success of their Drop Dobbs campaign against CNN and its advertisers. They deserved to beat their chests. Their latest effort showed that the fragmented Latino movement could find allies and maintain a sustained campaign. Immigrant demonizers have an increasingly formidable opponent.

But Lou Dobbs is a special case. His resignation from CNN had as much or more to do with an internal struggle there as with the outside Latino pressure. And Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck and their ilk needn’t quake over being the next target.

Dobbs is special to Latinos because, since glomming onto the immigration issue in 2004, he hammered it almost nightly. He promoted misinformation linking illegal and low-skilled immigrants to crime, jobs, diseases and practically every social malady imaginable. And he did it with a sneer. As Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center said today, “Dobbs has done more to disdain Latino immigrants in this country than probably any other person.” Even President Obama has singled out Dobbs by name as an obstruction to immigration reform.

But Dobbs was also special inside CNN. He was the only surviving anchor from Ted Turner’s founding CNN team. He is physically big, vocally imposing, intellectually smart (he graduated from Harvard, where I teach) and prodigiously hard working, all of which contributed to an arrogant and abrasive self-righteousness loathed by many inside CNN. Several of his bosses over the years have wanted to fire him, but he was protected, first by Turner and then, for a long time, by his ratings.

Those numbers and his forcefulness were among the reasons he was allowed six years ago to become the first, and still only, CNN anchor mixing news and commentary. A monster was created. Labeling himself with no sense of irony as “Mr. Independent,” he prostituted the network’s reporters, beginning with his own team, which does packaged shows and stand-ups reflecting his concerns. It extended to the network's stars. He put them visibly on the spot on the air by asking leading questions.

Eventually, the Dobbs magic stopped working. His absurd insistence on pursuing the “birther” conspiracy embarrassed the network and fueled the movement by Latinos and progressives to force him out. And with his ratings down, Dobbs was no longer worth the pain for CNN to put up with him. CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein reportedly gave Dobbs an ultimatum: tone down the harsh opinions and tune up the hard news, or get out. Dobbs decided to get out.

But no one should mistake his departure as a sign that opinion is getting out of cable news. CNN may try to cling to anchors who give news with voice and lots of empathy but limited opinion. That formula, however, is losing out to the partisan and overtly opinionated model at Fox and MSNBC. And you can be sure that Fox doesn’t much care what the Latino groups think.

Oh poor little Illegal Aliens, their feelings are hurt by Lou telling an inkling of truth about what 30% of them realy are like in this country for. Maybe they should try assimilating into our culture instead of wanting Americans to roll over and accept their inability to speak english, obey the law, participate and promote in gang warfare, drugs prostitution, rape, murder and burglary.
Excuse me but they are here ILLEGALLY.

I always enjoyed his commentaries, and as an immigrant, I appreciated his wholesomeness and honesty. He knows too well that there should be no need to be an illegal immigrant in a nation that has the heart of America. Too many have taken advantage of the system and politicians have coward to acquire votes. Dobbs was right to attack people who skirt the laws. Soon America won't be what it was and then they will have to find new borders or lament coming because they thought it was a Democracy. I love the freedom we enjoyed in education , work and beliefs, but I am saddened to see the change in the last 47 years. At that time, we applied for citizenship five years after arriving, and we proudly pledged allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. I think Lou Dobbs would agree.

I, for one, am happy to see at least one network attempt to put the genie back in the bottle and retreat towards a principled stand of delivering the news without the slant. Although I don't care one iota about the illegal immigration issue, I gave CNN the heave-ho long ago for the Lehrer News Hour and BBC World News. I feel I get better reporting from those organizations than any of the major news networks.

CNN still has work to do. Nancy Grace, comes across to me as a "man hater". She practically hanged in effigy on her show the Duke University Lacrosse players long before they were declared innocent and all charges were dropped. I feel she has no journalistic credibility and I'm tired of the sensationalism.

So CNN needs to continue cleaning house if they want to rise to the standard of journalistic excellence that America desperately needs. The bottom line for me is that I don't want opinions. I want facts. I'm capable of forming my own opinions about them.

I for one do look to CNN to provide news and not commentary and I found Lou Dobbs crusade against immigration outrageous. I am glad he is gone and I hope CNN never falls into commentary - right or left - again.

Stop the fiction that somehow CNN is a good news network. It's not. It's awful.

CNN used to be good. It really was. 1990, the *world* tuned into CNN. They had an international desk that was the envy of the world.

Remember during the first Iraq war? Those guys had balls and they reported from inside Iraq as the bombs fell. They had anchors that were good, they had reports that were sharp.

Now, the network is an empty shell. Lou Dobbs was worth watching because he wasn't afraid to take on the politically correct illegal latin alien lobby.

So now, if CNN went dark (and that might come to pass yet), I'm not sure many would notice and even less would care.

And this has nothing to do with Lou Dobbs. But I don't understand CNN's reason for being these days.

Very glad to see Lou Dobbs gone. I was one of those who became tired of Lou Dobbs rants. He was against all, and for nothing. His opinions became balistic missiles and bordered on crazy. National news media anchors hold a powerful position on a nightly basis with the nation and the world. The facts better be spot on and the voice better be a calming stable intelligent personna in a world with people who are easily swayed. Not everyone gets their news and world view from a variety of sources. A CNN anchor who reaches millions of viewers at prime time nightly must be logical, and as much as possible informative without being an instigator of extremist thought or fringe movements.

Dobbs had clearly become the latter.

All media "NEWS" is commentary; what is, and what is not reported is part of the Commentary" process. Each media outlet salutes one or another form of political correctness - there is little independent objectivity in the "NEWS" business. It is all about spin for ratings. Dobbs ratings were down, reflecting a CNN demographic change; he was no longer a major money maker, and his views were contrary to those
held by CNN management - step on the wrong toes and you get the axe. Lou and Dan Rather will have much in common. U.S. media

Dobbs is symbolic of a malignancy infecting mainstream journalism. Dobbs and those in his profession like him make Shakespeare's Iago look like a saint. Iago's victims were few; Dobb's et al encompass millions.

It is indeed a very sad day for American journalism when a powerful organization such as CNN bows to the bullying of one ethnic group to preserve its politically correct image. By firing Lou Dobbs (and let the truth be told here), CNN clearly demonstrates that it: 1) does not care about the American people; 2) does not have the courage to tell the truth; and 3) sacrifices the principle of free speech for the infinitely ridiculous reason of not offending people who have broken the law and are in this country illegally.

I am a Californian; you don't have to be a genius to understand the devasting economic impact that illegal "immigration" has had on this State. Just read the news, CNN!

CNN is composed of a group of hired hit men and women who are nothing more than psychic manipulators. They are not journalists and should not be treated as such. Their job is to get Republicons (neocons in elephants' clothing) into public office by manipulating the news.

Dobbs going is a good thing but for CNN to increase its credibility it will have to clean out a lot more. Over the long run there is a benefit in playing it straight in journalism even if it is not seen as profitable currently. Taken over the long haul fads of extremism take over but eventually the fires of hatred burn out and things settle down. The most hate and destructive period in the US was the McCarthy era but the the future the Fox era will be looked at as an aberration also and might cause a reversal in the swing of fads.
But the Foxificatiion permeating the country is so destructive of debate, reason and intelligence that there is a real risk of destroying the country before people grow tired of it. The country has serious problems, all self inflicted, and they are not addressable in the current climate and glorification of "stupid". The country can't be limited to the bounds of the least informed and least intelligent for formulating policy. The US is fast becoming an uncompetitive nation with functional competency of average Americans being lower than any developed country. The Foxification of the country is a cause and symptom both. Can CNN rise above it? Do we have enough time to find out?

Thanks for this. We hadn't caught this item at my house, yet, and I just read this with my spouse looking over my shoulder. We're beyond delighted that Dobbs is off CNN. He predicts "Mr.Independent" will show up on Fox News next, which I think is kind of what you suggest in the last paragraph. If we can't get these loud-mouthed extremists off the air entirely, maybe segregating them all together in one place (where sane folks can ignore them) is the next best of all possible worlds....

The purge of all conservative thought at CNN continues. Is it a coincidence that their numbers have gone down in dirct proportion to this?

I'm amazed Lou Dobbs lasted as long as he did there.

Maybe Dobbs will join FOX NEWS an boost their ratings even more. FOX NEWS seems to reflect American values more than the liberal networks.

As for outlaw immigrants, they have way too much influence over liberal, American media. Why does liberal media take marching orders from Mexico??

That, in itself, seems to make liberal media very unAmerican. Maybe that's why their ratings are shrinking.

If so, rightly so!

As an American citizen and former US military serviceman who happens to have been born and raised in a Hispanic culture, I never found anything objectionable in Lou Dobbs presentation of news, his opinions or commentary. If CNN wants to bail out of competing with Fox and MSNBC to take on Telemundo and Univision, that is their call. Dobbs was pretty much the only reason why I tuned into CNN. Six months from now as the CNN movers and shakers look at the drop in viewership, they will understand what Washington has come to realize. Most Americans don't want to reward illegal aliens for trampling on our laws and borders. Most Americans think that importing engineers from abroad under immigration laws that are a scam, while Americans in those fields are unemployed is a betrayal by Congress of our middle class. Polls have consistently shown that Most Americans align better with Lou Dobbs than with Geraldo Rivera or Jorge Ramos.

Lou will land on his feet because he's a brand with a loyal viewership and solid ratings. Since most news networks are businesses, he should not be out of the media for long.

AS far as illegal aliens, theirs is a statutory crime. That means that the moment they commit it, they are criminals. This includes the thousands that each year arrive with tourist visas, obtained under false pretenses, and with no intent to return to their country. Until we repatriate them all, our laws will not be taken seriously. If the current regime threatens taxpaying citizens with sending us to jail for not buying health coverage, how can they stand there and say that booting out twelve million illegal aliens is too large a task?

Maybe they are just too lazy to do the job they campaigned for; the one that involves upholding all the laws of our country and defending us from enemies, foreign and domestic.

My view on why Dobbs is leaving goes back to election time when Obama accused Dobbs of a more extreme position than he actually held on immigration. Since then Dobbs has lost his objectivity concerning Obama and his administration. When ratings fall too, you are a goner. As much as Obama stupidly criticized Fox instead of their actual factual inaccuracies, he looked petty and the same as Dubya that bounced MSNBC. Getting rid of Dunn was smart by the Obama team, making getting rid of Dobbs looking like them having no effect. Dobbs concentrating only on the immigration issue also dropped share when other important issues were left unattended. King is very fair but not quite in the mold of a Tim Russert that asked the biting questions. I wish him well.

Lou speaks for American citizens, not foreign lawbreakers, and there will always be a big audience for his views. Let's hope FOX gives him a great big fat raise when they welcome him aboard. As for the members of The Race who are so offended by Lou's "racism", look in the mirror and ask yourselves why no one is sympathetic to your whining. You first, Matos.

Lou Dobbs was CNN Economic Guru!

Remember that!

While the banks were robbing America and his viewers blind- he was worried about a 13 ft southern border fence!

Until they showed a 15 ft ladder!

Lou Dobbs believes that one in four adult Americans possessing a passport is ok.

Lou Dobbs was the ‘MIA’ Economic Guru that has failed the CNN viewers terribly while the Investment Banks robbed the American People

Global Economic 'pundit' is insulting to those of us that do travel the world and appreciate the Global World that our country has failed to step up to.

Lou Dobbs failed terribly in educating the viewers with Global Economics vs. his immigration agenda.

Lou Dobbs failed terribly in educating the viewers with Global Economics vs. his immigration agenda.

Instead of pondering too much on the 'CNN' credibility brand, I just used my remote.

To have such a person, who has failed miserably to the CNN trusted viewers, as a person of knowledge for your crisis is very insulting?

For years, Mr. Dobbs had an agenda.

It was not the economy or the Global Economy that Dobbs focused on, it was an agenda that was constant for years to build ‘southern’ border fence.

Murdoch/WSJ: Dumb it Down- cause that southern border was where 9-11 Hi jAckers crossed- right Lou?

I sent Dobbs an email on 7-18-08:

8.8 Billion USD (Dollars) missing from the Profound Success, you INSIST to proclaim, in Iraq.

What about Afghanistan?

Financial Services Mr. Dobbs?

What has happened to the Financial Services in this country MR. Dobbs?

Did the ILLEGALS do this Mr. Dobbs? Did Obama Mr. Dobbs?

Seems to me, McCain should have warned the American People since he has the experience in the S & L SCANDAL in the eighties?

You recall that don’t you Mr. Dobbs? Where is that 8.8 BILLION USD missing in Iraq?

Cost-Plus Contracting has KILLED many of our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan while taking a shower.

To this date, have you reported any of this?

I asked Dobbs to explain his lack of reporting for CNN- BACK in 2008!

Dumb it Down - Dobbs was a BIG Contributor to that for YEARS!

CNN should be ashamed!

Not unusual for the Wapo and the NYTimes to beat a dude up after the fact. At this point even running a spell check of an old Lou Dobbs script is moot. One thing can be said for the man, you either loved or hated what he said; is that such a bad thing ? Opinion always has a way of alienating someone, however, it's presentation is paramount. As Americans we pride ourselves in enjoying a free exchange in the discourse of the day. The moment even a single expression of thought is cowed in to silence by the mob.... is it really something to brag about ?

I always figured CNN kept Lou Dobbs around as a caricature of a "conservative" just to make conservatives look bad. The whole Obama Birth Certificate thing was just stupid. Even Fox news had long denounced it while Lou Dobbs kept at it. "It's a certificate of live birth, not a birth certificate." Sure. Don't bother to check that in at least several states that's the title they use on all birth certificates. And then the extreme anti-immigrant thinly-veiled racism. He gave conservatives a bad name and was worse that 99% of what you see on Fox.

Lou Dobbs was a useful idiot for the left when he hammered Republicans during the Bush Administration. He stoked the fires of intra-party warfare that divided Republicans and stopped President Bush's attempt at immigration reform.

Now that Obama is president and will have to tackle immigration reform, liberals cannot have a dissident on a home team network. So Dobbs has to go. It is part of a media strategy to limit opposing voices to the Fox network and then isolate and deligitimize Fox.

Dobbs is another casualty of partisanship in the Fourth Estate.

this article claims that Lou Dobbs promoted "misinformation" linking illegal aliens to crime, etc. Why didn't you cite a specific example with fact as to why it was "misinformation". It's easy to say things without backing them up.

If you look at Prince William County, crime went down over 19% after implementing the "Rule of Law" resolution. During the same time, neighboring Fairfax County who openly welcomed illegal aliens experienced a 19%+ increase in crime. The Virginia State police estimate 90% of MS-13 are illegal aliens. Those are facts that link illegal aliens to crime. There are hundreds of other facts proving the link as well. So where is the misinformation????

The birther conspiracy may be silly, but it is no more so than the conspiracy to label Al Gore the winner in the 2000 presidential election. Also it is not really accurate to say that the other side is defended by Fox News. Fox may not care what Latinos may think, but they closely adhere to the business interests who want cheap American labor. And Fox's business interests do not complain about the outsourcing of American jobs.

America needs to return to a land the believes in laws, and illegal immigrants are just that illegal.

It seems our country has people that want to cry about the rule of law but when it benefits them they want to ignore it.

America needs to cut off all financial assistance to illegal immigrants in schools and medical care and imprison anyone who hires them. Then the illegal immigrants will leave on their own.

How about we start following laws again?

The post and their wacko left readers love Dobb’s departure. They silenced another voice that dares to deviate for the left wing script. All is well with MSM now. The only independent thought in media is on Fox, which the elite media thinks they have marginalized.

Recent polls show the American public is wise to the progressive takeover of the so called MSM. They are voting with their dollars and their viewership and the left wing media is quickly becoming bankrupt.

2 reasons Dobbs is gone; rants and ratings. As far as the rants, whether you agree or disagree with him, Dobbs was evolving into a one trick pony show (I almost called it a news show but it quickly became a Dobbs opinion show) and the viewers started leaving in droves due to the "oh, no, not again!" reaction by most; which leads to ratings, and the lack thereof... How can you diversify and expand your audience and improve ratings if your appeal is to a small segment of that audience, the segment that wants to hear the same opinion over and over....and over.... and over.

Silencing Dobbs -- who has the courage of his convictions -- changes nothing, because illegals will continue to do the things that Dobbs attacked, and viewers will shun a "news" organization that chooses to omit inconvenient truths. There's no difference from CNN getting rid of Dobbs to appease those on the left, and Fox News slanting coverage to maintain its appeal to those on the right. At some point, these companies decide that there's no profit in attempting to maintain a veneer of impartiality, so they embrace a partisan stand in hopes of attracting viewers of that political viewpoint.

The fact is, the country is changing, and political power is shifting away from Anglos. You have to expect a rear-guard action, just like there was a backlash against gains by blacks. I personally think Dobbs is just the tip of the iceberg; I don't expect Anglos to cede their hegemony peacefully.

Excuse me but they are here ILLEGALLY.

I hear ya, I think that they should have to learn english. I hate it when I go into a KMART and there are more signs in Spanish than in English. If you want to live in a culture, you don't have to abandon your culture, just try to do in Rome what Romans do.

The problem is they can make more in one hour working a labor job than they can make in two days in Mexico. I know there are multi-national corporations operating in Mexico but they pay squat, give no benefits and don't invest in the community. They drive out other businesses that could give employment opportunities to Mexican nationals.

Another thing I really dislike is that there are construction companies in California that low-ball a job, hire unskilled Mexican labor (thus not hiring guys who are master carpenters) then build these structures with shoddy workmanship just good enough to satisfy the inspectors and then tack on extra charges driving up the cost.
It sucks, but what can we do with them?

Depending on your love/hate perspective of Lou Dobbs, You have to admit he tackled some of the worst problems that have plagued this country for the last forty years which the mainstream media has refused to report on for the last thirty. Mainly the export of our jobs, the corporatization of our government, a government that neither listens to nor responds to the wants and needs of the people and the unfettered influx of illegal aliens pouring across our borders. So if you're a latino lover it's a great time in the old town tonight. If you're a send 'em all back kinda guy, you've lost the only friend of Middle Class Americans left on the tube.

It was disturbing over the past 7-8 years to watch Lou Dobbs morph from a fairly rational and reasonable anchor to an angry, sputtering, fuming, and self-righteous (not to say pompous) extremist. I watched a lot of Lou Dobbs until, finally, I couldn't stand the man. He was embarrassingly angry and emotional. He got paranoid, afraid, pious. I really felt embarrassed for him. I hated to watch him for the last few years. It was cringeworthy.

I think it will turn out that he's suffering from early dementia.

CNN didn't oust Mr. Dobbs because it suddenly developed a conscience.

CNN ousted Dobbs because it FINALLY became conscious of the fact that advertisers were bailing.

There was a time, with memory of this writer, when CNN was the "go to" source for news and formation.

If any of you think that removing Saint Lou is being do because CNN wants to go BACK to being the "go to" source, think again. CNN wants to be the GO TO source for paid advertising.

Hate no longer sells like it used to.

I heard Mr. Dobb is heading to the US-Mexico border to join the minuteman project to arrest and deport hispanics. Hopefully the one who may fill his vacant at CNN poses SSN, US citizenship, "valid" drivers license, blue eyes, no accent when speaking english, and hate "burritos". By the way, he must learn that illegal aliens come from around the world not only from Mexico.

Mr. Dobbs will not be missed by me. I quit watching over a year ago. His hateful rant against Latinos brought back many memories from my own past. My Grandparents came from Poland and Russia and were not treated kindly when they got here. My father was Navy with a weird foreign name. We were Catholic living in Norfolk Virginia. Back then they hated The Navy Hated Catholics, anyone with a foreign name. Times have changed, I know. Now in Virgina we have moved on and the new enemy has a Latino name.

1. Charlietuna666, the NJ State Police have already refuted Dobbs' wild claim that someone shot at his house. Even he never claimed anyone shot at his wife. You're pulling facts out of your arse, just like ... Lou Dobbs.

2. When a stray hunter's bullet hit Dobbs' attic (the police's conclusion, not mine), he didn't actually blame 'illegal liberals', as you do. He blamed the 'liberal media'. That alone should tell you that he's an unhinged conspiracy theorist.

3. To the guy who wrote 'Lou Dobbs spoke the truth. Are we suppose to stick our head in the sand, just because the truth is not politically correct?'
No. Lou Dobbs didn't tell the truth. In fact, Lou Dobbs was repeatedly caught making up facts and presenting them as news. He claimed illegal immigrants made up one-third of convicts in US prisons (wildly untrue), and that 30,000 illegals were carrying tuberculosis (also wildly untrue). He was called out on these lies and had to publicly retract them, but he kept making up new ones (like charlietuna666).

Any anchor who makes up lies and presents them as news doesn't deserve his job ... even if he's not a racist arsehole.

Why stop at Senator Dobbs. As an Independent he stands a very good chance of defeating Obama or any neocon, con, or any other Palin clone the Repubs pick up on the streets of downtown Nome.
I happen to agree with everything Lou said, although I never cared for his panel of experts, you know, the pundits who purport to know it all, and make a career of telling it all. This forum seems to have a preponderance people who agree with Mr. Matos and obviously not everyday watchers of Lou Dobbs. Well, they're right after a fashion. Lou was a special case. There was NO ONE in the media or on the campaign trail who told the truth like he did, and the truth did hurt those with illegal alien causes, outsourcing of jobs, selling our freeways and ports to Arabs and the like, building the NAFTA highway, etc., etc., etc.
I for one hope he launches his campaign for President right away as I wish to be first in to sign on. CNN and the rest of the Lou Haters can take a flying fling at a rolling donut.

In my opinion, Lou Dobbs represented the most negative point in CNN, and I stopped following his program a long time ago after figuring out its distorted nature. However, he cannot compare to Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck and most of those who appear on FOX.

O’Reilly is a wicked (evil) person. He resorts to lies, as was the case during the propaganda of lies that led to the war in Iraq, and he incites violence and terrorism by attacking abortion doctors and some of whom were killed, possibly due to this type of incitement by him and others. He also frequently mislead his viewers basically on any single issue; for example, he already concluded before the beginning of any trial that the latest shooting in Texas was an act of terrorism, pretending not to know the meaning of terrorism, and I do not think O’Reilly is stupid or illiterate. The alleged shooter could be simply a maniac confused with religion.

Glenn Beck is a different type of bread, he is simply mentally sick, and who thinks that communism, socialism, Nazism, fascism, liberalism all mean the same thing. He would naturally fit the illiterate right wing believers.

How can you state that CNN does not encourage or employ opinionated anchors?

I have burned into my memory the vision of Soledad O'Brien and Rolland Martin - in a dashiki - extolling the brilliance and power of the Reverend Wright after his Press Club speech.

Watching this, I thought "Isn't someone going to fire these two?" Apparently not. The bias they showed earned them promotions and now they prattle on about whatever they 'feel' on endless panels and both have been given featured stories to cover - on Latinos and Blacks.

Surprise, surprise, this footage has 'disappeared', never to be aired again.

HELLO. That performance is much much more biased than anything Lou Dobbs every said. I wish I had recorded it as the interpretation of US history and politics was beyond warped - just like the Honorable Reverend who mentored our President, his family, his wife, her family and - many many of their friends.

I will miss Lou Dobbs as he counter balanced the fluff of most, the gravitas of repetative Blitzer and the bias of Amanpour.

Amazing, all of these people defending Dobbs crusade against ILLEGAL immigrants. Kinda convienent isn't it? When the Mayflower landed, and in their first act on American stole, stole the seed corn that the native americans had stored for the coming year- there were no immigration laws. Those laws were invented by european immigrants, trying to shut the door behind them. This Hypocrisy was fronted by Dobbs, but it runs deep in WASP America- as if they "stole this country fair and Square."

Is it too much to remember, that the Southwest belonged to Mexico- including California and Texas, before maurading white colonists decided it should be theirs? Hawaii was taken over by U.S. Matines at the behest of the children of AMERICAN missionaries that had come to save Hawaii. It would seem that the most dangerous immigrants are white anglo saxons.

As a nightly viewer of Lou Dobbs for years I will miss his commentary. He always had a lot of indepth topics others don't do and more than the ordinary pundits we are forced to endure every day as they make the rounds from channel to channel. Hispanics didn't like his anti illegal immigration stance and the open borders and always said he was anti immigration instead. However they were always invited and welcomed on his show. Democrats don't like he mentioned the birthers and decided he would be the next target for them since he dared even let viewers know what it was. Dobbs was an equal opportunity critic and praiser of both political parties. I guess those rare breed are no longer allowed by democrats who feel that their darlings of MSNBC are the model that must be followed. It appears that the media bigwigs are now down to looking at threats of boycotts in the deliverance of their news. I presume we can look soon to media where we all turn to one channel for anything against the president in office, and one channel for anything for the president in office. Forget about facts - we can call it the Republican channel, and the Democratic channel and all us independents will be ignored as usual until voting time comes around.

Lou Dobbs is a bigot who fans the flames of hatred and intolerance among those in our population who are easily manipulated and whose feelings of hatred need only a respectable venue in order to come out of the closet.

Nothing will change this: Lou Dobbs demonized undocumented residents of the US with loathsome lies, mostly through innuendo. He, and CNN, are responsible for the flames of hatred he fanned among a large group who are easily given to hate.

His reading of his e-mail/letters subtly implied that he represented true patriots who alone could rescue this nation from the barbaric hordes that had invaded it and that those who thought as he did were the only true patriotic Americans. Typical of the hard right.... and dangerous.

Lou Dobbs was a right wing demogogue and the real news here is not his firing. The real news is how long it took CNN to do it.

Another illegal immigrant sex criminal strikes again:

Nelson Mendez-Depaz has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse, and is being held in the Putnam County Jail without bail. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has also placed a retainer on the suspect.

-Deborah Schurman-Kauflin Ph.D. of the Violent Crimes Institute reports that the U.S. illegal alien population includes at least 240,000 sex offenders. Based on various studies, it is estimated that they will commit 130,909 sex crimes annually.

-63 percent of the sex crimes committed by illegal aliens, were done so by previously deported criminals.

-Between 2003-2008, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, through Operation Predator, arrested 11,600 illegal aliens for crimes including child pornography, child sex tourism, human smuggling and trafficking of minors, and child molestation and rape.

Dobbs, in his small way tried to stem this invasion that is costing liive, billions in tax dollars, and bankrupting cities and states.

Pelosi and her Nancy-boys are willing to fine and imprison American citizens who don't sign up for her mandatory health care but will exempt illegals who leech off the system.

Be sure to include your willingness to pay for the costs illegal aliens impose on this country by yourselves. This includes their education, health, correctional and welfare costs. If you want illegal immigration, than YOU pay for it.

It really didn't matter who, Islamics, Mexicans, Asians, anyone of color from black to lightly tanned, anyone who had a non-christian religeon, anyone who refused to bow down to the unitary executive and corporatist wealth and power. During the first years Lou Dobbs forwarded the immigration debate we were fans. We quit tuning in Dobbs a while back because in our opinion he was going, going...gone over the line. The final straw for us when Dobbs went after Obama for not doing enough even though Obama had only served a few weeks as President. We never watched any shows when he roiled about the "birther" issue.

We are Indpendents in our 70's who usually vote Republican; that was, until President Bush invaded Iraq and oversaw taxpayer give-aways to coporate recipients of no-bid contracts. It was a no-brainer for us to vote for Kerry in '04 and Obama in '08.

We turned on Dobbs by accident sometime about a month ago, and he looked, and sounded like he was...shall we say, tight? Perhaps a 3-martini lunch when everyone lost count?

So long Lou! We hope you go into treatment and get some "chill pills".

Which most polls indicate is a commonly held view. Only in America can illegal (broke the law) immigrants get free government (tax payer funded) healthcare, free public (tax payer funded) schooling, drivers licenses and in state (taxpayer subsidized) college tuition. Amazing. What a great country.
