Sarah Palin's hat trick

Could former Alaska governor Sarah Palin be annoyed that Tiger Woods is getting all the attention? How else to explain why -- oh why -- John McCain’s 2008 running mate showed up on a Hawaiian beach wearing a "McCain" visor with "McCain" blacked out? Palin reportedly said she didn't want to draw attention to herself. But the only way her actions make sense is if she actually meant to draw attention to herself.

Still, I'll take Palin at her word that she wanted to be "incognito." After all, she is one of the most recognizable people in the country these days. Yet, considering the hefty advance she pocketed for her best-selling book "Going Rogue," you'd think Palin had enough coin to buy one of those souvenir hats in the gift shop.

If anyone in her rabidly loyal base was offended by Palin's "McCain" eradication they'll surely take heart in what her t-shirt said. The front read: "If you don't love America." The back read: "then why don't you get the hell out." And what should you do if you don't love John McCain?

Let's see -- she doesn't like our President. She doesn't like separation of church and state. She doesn't like the fact that the majority of the country does not share her views. She doesn't like holding the position she was elected to hold. I don't think she likes America .... get the hell out!!!

That whole 'if you don't like it get out' argument is one of the built-in contradictions that makes me crazy. They say they believe in freedom, fight and die for our rights, etc., and then when you exercise those rights and freedom by not agreeing...they tell you to get out. Everyone being expected to march in ideologic lockstep is not freedom.

Actually, Sarah Palin loves America. That is why she doesn't like what this President and his liberal allies are doing to it. You might want to re-read the Constitution. What it forbids is the establishment of a state religion. This is so you can have freedom of religion. That doesn't necessarily mean that you have freedom from religion. It also means that Islamic Sharia law is not constitutionally acceptable as well. If the media would honestly and accurately tell Sarah Palin's view to America, then it would only be the minority of extreme left-wing activists who would object to her. Her choice to resign as governor of Alaska made perfect sense in the context of the politically motivated harassment campaign that could only fight as governor with both hands tied behind her back because of provisions in Alaskan law.

It's as if competence, honesty, and a respect for Truth are offensive to conservatives, and Sarah Palin is their poster child.

The purpose of the article is to offer yet more proof that Palin thought she was the star of the McCain-Palin campaign. Actually, she would still be a largely unknown governor were it not for McCain's mistake in choosing her to run with him. Now, we see what kind of person she is: petty, stupid and narcissistic.

"If you don't like it, get the ---- out, and take your state with you!" That should be Sarah's true slogan, being as how her husband was an active member of the Alaskan Independence Party, which advocated secession from the union. If she and Todd hated America so much, they could have just packed up their family and moved to Canada. Sarah probably wouldn't have even known she was in another country. Instead, they openly declared their hatred for America, wanted to leave, but wanted to take their whole state with them.

Actually, to be truthful, this slogan is right in keeping with Sarah's attitude about everything. The truly patriotic slogan would be, "if you don't like America, fix it" not leave it. But she leaves everything when the going gets tough. That's why she needed six colleges to get one degree. That's why she quit her mayorship and her governorship. That's why she gave up on raising her children and let them just raise themselves (with "awesome" results). She is a quitter. And that's what the slogan on her t-shirt is really about: QUITTING.

You betcha. Wink wink.

That anyone wearing that t-shirt got so close to the presidency (and not just another photo on People of Walmart.com) is frightening.

What mythical crowds are you creating to convince yourself that the world is as you say it is? You Righties need a health dose of reality.

honorswar26 wrote: "Actually, Sarah Palin loves America. That is why she doesn't like what this President and his liberal allies are doing to it."

If she loved America why did she run for VP without even knowing what the job entailed? Why did she promote the Alaska Independence Party, a party seeking succession of Alaska from the United States which her husband was a member of?

honorswar26 wrote: "You might want to re-read the Constitution. What it forbids is the establishment of a state religion. This is so you can have freedom of religion. That doesn't necessarily mean that you have freedom from religion."

How can you have freedom of religion without having freedom from religion? If I am Catholic does that mean I must put up with a government that celebrates exclusively Muslim holidays on public lands? If the government did that they would be promoting Islam. This is not a new discussion, the courts have said this over and over. They can allow celebrations of all religions or none. The problem I see is not the government but Walmart and Target having "Holiday" displays, providing a general celebration for all faiths and not just one. Its obvious there are many who want only christian religious holidays celebrated as christian religious holidays using taxpayer money, time and land. If you feel the courts have it wrong, bring a lawsuit, but it will fail as many others have. If you think you can read the constitution better than constitutional scholars and judges, then I think you should think again.

honorswar26 wrote: "It also means that Islamic Sharia law is not constitutionally acceptable as well."

Actually it does not. It would mean that Islam could not dictate the laws of the land, but Muslims could vote for laws that abide by Sharia law as the Chsristians in America voted for christian laws, such as Sunday blue-laws.

honorswar26 wrote: "If the media would honestly and accurately tell Sarah Palin's view to America, then it would only be the minority of extreme left-wing activists who would object to her."

I'm not one of those and I objected to her after her second speech at the GOP convention. And when I found out how she treated her pregnant daughter for her own political gain that sealed it for me. No mother, especially one that claims to be a hockey mom, pulls her child out of high school, depriving her of a diploma, just to hide the pregnancy while seeking political office. Makes one wonder if she has a kid hidden in the attic.

honorswar26 wrote: "Her choice to resign as governor of Alaska made perfect sense in the context of the politically motivated harassment campaign that could only fight as governor with both hands tied behind her back because of provisions in Alaskan law."

A law that Sarah lobbied for and signed due to excesses of the previous governor. Her problem was she did so many shady things that, as you say, she could not stand the onslaught of complaints, which by her own law she invited.

"But the only way her actions make sense is if she actually meant to draw attention to herself."

But to Palin this makes sense: Check out the rest of her intellecutal conclusions:

Her state "shares the wealth" with its citizens, but she hates socialism. She doesn't believe in teaching sex ed other than abstinence, but when her daughter completely negates that approach and gets pregnant, it's just fine and a blessing. She thinks that because some fringe bloggers questioned whether her son was her biological child, the birthers have legitimate questions regarding President Obama's birthplace (even though Obama made a clear statement in her defense during the campaign about not going after candidate's families). Although she had no uncertainty about global warming before the "email scandal," she now thinks that it's a scam.

In short, she does not think objectively and/or logically, is intellectually dishonest, and has no character (if she did, she would not think the birthers' screeching is OK; a person with character would respond that it was wrong to do it to her, and it is wrong to do it to President Obama).

She's the perfect embodiment of the shallow, superficial part of the United States of America's culture that thinks Fox News and US Magazine are real and accurate.

No way would she ever win a national election, and I'm projecting she and the tea party wing of the Republican Party will split off and ensure Obama's reelection in 2012.

Ditto to TitletownUSA's comments that it is both odd and quite humorous to watch the hordes of apparently frantic Palin-haters (fka Bush-haters with a need for someone to focus on?), that follow and attack her so virulently. Very strange.

Oh, I forgot, it's the right that's supposed to be full of hate and intolerance. You lefties are such total clowns and incurable hypocrites. It's too bad you can't see how ridiculous and extreme you look when going after Palin (or anyone whose views you do not agree with, for that matter...).

Sarah Palin has integrity and common sense. She does not play ball with any of the corrupt power brokers, which wins her friends and enemies on both sides. That is what took her to the top in Alaska, and has intermittently estranged her from the Republican party. The "good ole boys" from both parties know that.

That is why both the far left and far right try to discredit and minimize her. Down deep they are deathly afraid of her, but not for all the contrived reasons her detractors come up with. As her dad said: "Sarah isn't quitting, she is just re-loading."

Integrity in politicians is so rare these days, and that is a big part of her appeal. She is beholden to no one and that is what we need to break to grip of bought-and-paid-for politicians from both parties presently killing off the middle class.

It appears that the best man for the job in 2012, actually is a woman.

Wow, that's a classy T-shirt, Sarah. What's wrong, was your "Gas, Grass, or A**, Nobody Rides For Free" shirt in the wash? I realize that a lot of people wish the media would stop giving her attention, but I love it! I want to witness the inevitable self-destruction of this crazy woman. Somehow I see it all ending with the headline: "Sarah Palin Arrested For Murdering Clown During Circus Melee".

"If you don't love America...then get the hell out of here." How do you LOVE America exactly? Do you take it out on a date? And how does one HATE America? What's the criteria for hating America? Disagreeing with everything Palin and her ill-informed trailer trash yee haw's believe in. Why isn't that a form of Nazism? The tee-shirt, much like Palin herself, really shows what an idiot she and her followers really are? We live in the United States of America Sara...not the Divided States of America. Just because I don't believe in what your pea brain believes doesn't mean I ain't not like America. Reminds me of a time back in college where my buddies and I would take a drive way out in the country at this all night dinner. No doubt, college people were not welcome, why? Probably because the hillbillies couldn't handle someone that had half a brain. Cause as Terry the cook stated to us, "we want you out of here cause, you ain't good people." Sort of the dimwitted logic Sara and her followers connect with. Pathetic if you ask me.

I'd wish someone on the right would tell me one thing Palin has done for this country. One solid American thing.

She backed a law to allow more scrutiny of the governor, then could not stand the complaints. She talks about Obama being a socialist while touting how oil money from oil companies working in Alaska comes back to the people. Her words sound more like Chavez, yet she's the darling of the right.

Really, just what is it you think she has? Leadership? She QUIT! Intelligence? She didn't even know what the job of the VP was! And when asked questions on policy actually said she might not answer the questions.

So please, tell me and everyone, just what do you see in this pretender?

1850s If you don't like enslavement of Africans on American cotton farms, then leave.

1960s If you don't like Eisenhower criticizing the insidiousness of America's "military industrial complex," then leave.

2000s If you don't like America invading foreign countries based upon false intelligence reports, then leave.

Then, only the likes of Sarah Palin will be in America, American versions of "Good Germans."

Palin is dangerous to Americans: depriving elders on their death beds of hospice counseling with her insidious, twisted term, "death panels" to make headlines for herself is diabolical and heartless. Unbelievable.

Yeah, that's right, the same Todd who was once a member of the separatist Alaska Independence Party.

Palin quit the governorship because of the cold hard cash. Period. She can be harrassed at $100,000 a year or she can be harrassed with a few more zeros added to that figure. She figured it out pretty quickly and didn't look back once as she sold out the people of her state. Like a fading beauty queen, she knew that her time to get that buck in her pocket had bookends. I'll bet McCain rues the day he even considered adding her to his campaign. And that ball cap? Incognito? She's either more of a nitwit than I thought or just reaching pretty low for a little more time in the sun. White trash.

Palin is probably the most passive aggressive and disingenuous politician since, well, perhaps Mitt Romney.

However, I agree with the suggestion on her T-shirt. Conservatives who are hopping mad at a president who's trying to help America survive the next century should get the hell out. Move to Iran, where they don't have any gays. Or Afghanistan, where the locals aren't asked to understand science. Or somewhere where people have worse health care. Like Bangladesh.

I don't care where they go, but I'm tired of their whining. Just go.

My take on this Jonathan is that Sarah Palin was passed out on the beach drunk as a skunk and a Rhodes Scholar tattooed “STUPID” on her forehead. The old John McCain hat was the only thing she could find in her stupor. The reason John McCain's name was marked out on the hat: she probably called him in this Pentecostal state of bliss and he replied to her, "quit calling me until you are exorcised."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/stephen-h-dinan/dissolving-the-palin-prej_b_392797.html

How in the world do you get that Palin's reference to "Death Panels" would be denying someone hospice counseling? Hospice care is a Medicare/Medicaid paid service. I worked for Dept of Soc Serv.for the elderly,& disabled. A patient's doc can recommend many procedures that has to be approved at the Federal level before the procedures/meds/tests are done. The Feds have a panel assigned to pay or deny these claims submitted by docs & hospitals.
Under the ObamaCare there are many more things that will not be paid resulting in that panel being basically a live or die panel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-dQfb8WQvo
Another portion of ObamaCare will be paid from the imposing fines on people that do not sign up for this universal health care and if they do not pay the fines they go to jail. Every individual will have to put out $1,500 or 15% of their income on health care.Currently I have no health insurance and I need every dime I get to pay my bills. I cannot afford 15% of my income to pay for health insurance. I get up the money to go to clinic that I pay on a sliding scale. This clinic also has a sliding scale pharmacy also.
This spending is outrageous and our politicians have gone crazy. Someone said that Sarah Palin's money from oil goes back to each Alaskan and that is the same as socialism. Not so! That money to each Alaskan citizen is not money from taxing the wealthier people in Alaska. It is charging the rich oil companies for use of the Alaskan land (instead of them paying the corrupt politicians she arranged for the money to go to the citizens.) therefore the money belongs to Alaska.
PLEASE PLEASE TELL THESE CRAZED WITH POWER DEMOCRATS TO STOP THE INSANITY OF SPENDING MONEY WE DON'T HAVE....

Hello, most Alaskan's would quit their jobs and head for the beach if they'd just won the Lottery and received boodles of cash for a book they didn't have to even write. A bikini also looks better on the beach and she probably got tired of looking at Russia.

Speaks her mind clearly eh? Here is a quote from Sarah Palin during the Couric interview:
"Like every American I'm speaking with, we are ill about this. We're saying, 'Hey, why bail out Fanny and Freddie and not me?' But ultimately, what the bailout does is, help those that are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy to help, uhhh, it's gotta be all about job creation too. Also, too, shoring up our economy and putting Fannie and Freddie back on the right track, and so health care reform and reducing taxes and reigning in spending...'cause Barack Obama, ya know, has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans, also, having a dollar value meal at restaurants. That's gonna help. But 1 in 5 jobs being created today under the umbrella of job creation. That, you know. Also....."

As George Orwell points out in "Politics and the English Language," one need not take on the responsibility of thinking when composing sentences:

"You can shirk it by simply throwing your mind open and letting the ready-made phrases come crowding in. They will construct your sentences for you — even think your thoughts for you, to a certain extent — and at need they will perform the important service of partially concealing your meaning even from yourself. It is at this point that the special connexion between politics and the debasement of language becomes clear."

Maybe "Politics and the English Language" is one book Palin has read, or maybe not, maybe its just natural for her.

Ah but Sarah is not debating any of these people. In fact she does not debate. She makes statements, usually hiding behind Facebook, then takes no questions. We've seen her debate before. She can't. We've seen her try to explain positions. She can't. We've seen her try to govern. She quit.

If she ever tries to run for office she will not be able to do it from Facebook. And her first political debates would be with republicans in primaries. They would tear her apart. Shoot, Katie Couric tore her apart in a softball interview. A 3rd grader asked a question about what the VP's job was and she got the answer totally wrong showing she cannot even debate a 3rd grader and win.

Just how is Palin ever going to run for any office? And for those of you who feel liberals are worried about Palin, nothing could be further from the truth since liberals know she does not have the guts or ability to run a campaign herself. What worries liberals are those people who think Palin is a capable leader, intelligent and diplomatic, able to lead America forward. Its those people, not Palin, that have liberals wondering just how anyone could think that way. That is what scares liberals since it is they who voted for Bush and ruined this country where torture was a core value and spending is not a problem as long as republicans are the ones spending, including for bridges to nowhere.

Posted by: Fate1 | December 18, 2009 3:44 PM | Report abuse

One of the real benefits that flow from Palin's prominence is that she has brought to the surface many people who feel disaffected and removed from society. These are people whose views are rejected and scorned by many of us. These guys want to be heard and validated.

I do not share their views but I can debate them once I hear them.

Palin has positions which are supported by her ideology and beliefs but not by evidence and well-formed arguments. Many Americans support her because their values are similar.

Sarah Palin has no constituency, she has no base. She doesn't even rise to the level of Nixon: Nixon left politics after losing an election in 1962, which meant he stood in the arena, left stating the truth that the media would not have him to kick around, traveled the world, learned more about the way things work and re-emerged to win the Presidency by a landslide. (twice) She represents nothing, but one talentless family, whose opinions are only important to her, and her Facebook page.
