Senate health reform industrial policy

From the Huffington Post:
Gone from the bill is a tax on cosmetic surgical procedures, including Botox injections. Instead, Senate Democrats are proposing a 10 percent sales tax on tanning salons, to be paid by the person soaking up the rays. The Food and Drug Administration says ultraviolet radiation from tanning can increase the risk of skin cancer.

While most tanning salon use is vanity, it is also recommended by skin specialists in the treatment of some skin disorders including psoriasis.
Taxing treatment use is a bit ironic in the context of the bill.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, that taxing botox has been removed from the bill.
I guess we know what the price for a Kerry vote is...

Crap, the Botax was one of the most creative features of the bill. Only it should have been set at about 50%.

Nancy P. got the botox tax killed. Would have bankrupted her.

How about a tax on tattoos? We could buy back all of our Treasuries from China, bail out Dubai and still have enough left over to buy everyone free fries twice a week.

I'll bet the Botox tax made Pelosi's eyebrows raise.
Her face looked tight when she argued against it.

I really do believe that Boehner's tan is of the spray on Maaco variety.

Oh please let this stay in the final bill. Boehner should have to pay to look so silly.
