Sarah Palin: Bridge to nowhere

No doubt about it, Sarah Palin is the life of the party. The Tea Party and the Republican Party. That's great for the former, but for the latter? Not so much.

The GOP is bereft of a positive agenda or a unifying slate of ideas. And Palin, who serves as a bridge between the two wary camps, is doing nothing to change that. To be fair, neither is the GOP leadership, which seems content to tap the enthusiasm of folks who want "to take our country back" and "return it to the Constitution" without bothering to propose what would come after angry tea partiers "just vote them out."

For instance, the GOP has adopted the "repeal and replace" mantra for the health-care bill President Obama signed into law last week. As the latest Washington Post poll shows, there's fertile ground here. Yet, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) is the only Republican I've seen put forth options worth debating. I give him credit for this and for doing so without employing unnerving bellicose rhetoric. But just like his "Road map for America's future," his health care "replace" ideas will most likely be greeted by the sound of crickets.

The "Party of No," as Democrats like to call the GOP, has become the party of "hell, no!," as Palin and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who hopes her popularity will help him win his tough primary challenge, declared over the weekend. The American people ultimately respond to optimism. Anger is a fleeting emotion that can only stay stoked for so long before folks start to ask, "Now what?" A question for which the Republicans have no real answer.

Paul Ryan's "alternatives" are a set of cuts and privatizations that even his own party knows will not fly. There have been NO realistic alternatives proposed by the GOP other than a maintenance of the status quo - which has been pretty much acknowledged by both parties to be failing.

I am a young adult who have never really cared about the issues facing our country or even care to vote. That is until McCain picked Governor Palin to be his running mate. When she speaks, I listen not only because she make sense, but also she because walks the walk. She doesn't beat around the bush. Palin is intelligent, competent, has a vision, and truly understands the principals that make our Nation great.

Try to keep up with her and you'll probably understand where those who support are coming from.

Michigan 1985,
I am glad that you are now engaged in politics, when apparently nothing that had been going on before had sparked your interest; a just war of agression, to retaliate against a soveriegn nation that harbored and backed those that attacked us, amd was subsequently ignored and forgotten, to an unjust war of agression "just because" he could, (there are many explanations why Bush invaded Iraq, but none have made sense yet), to energy needs, power, water global warming, all those things that have been going on, not to mention the immigration crisis, and many others that you can read about any day in any of our mags and blogs.
Amd you are now engaged and excited by SARA PALIN? Really? Perhaps you are male. Many men have succumbed to her winks and smiles. They think she is personally winking at them. May be some type of librarian, secreatary fantasy, or something, maybe the eyeglasses. They only assume intelligence, they don't guarantee it.
Give me a break! An illiterate quitter who left her governorship to chase the almighty dollar, thank God! She did us a favor. But she and McCain also fortunately lost the election, another blessing. With her a heartbeat from the Presidency, and McCains failing mental and physical health, would have placed America in a very vulnerable and frightening scenenario, and would have really placed us in up the creek, not that Bush didn's already place us there during his 8 year reign. With her in the presidency, I'm sure we'd be at war with Iran by now. With others heating up on the horizon. Thank God she can see Russia from Alaska's shores. She obviously has geopolitical props. What a great plot for a new political novel. Egadds. Yikes!!!
You back a woman that reads nothing, that cannot speak an intelligable sentance, and you think that speaks common sense? She is the IT girl of the conservative hour, little talk, but no real solutions.
Really, I fear for America, based on your attitude, and perhaps others like you, just waking up tp politics as well. I hope its her femanine allure that grabbed you, and not her smarts, or lack thereof. I'm assuming that you were born in 1985, which would make you about 25 years old. What did you do with that education? But you are however, entitled to your ideas. That is the American Way.
There is a reason she and McCain lost, but I doubt you can see it. And that is also very frightening.

michigan85, do us all a favor and drop out of politics again. at least long enough to get an education, or at least long enough to pull your head out of your posterior. if not, "keeping up with palin" will lead you to join one of those nutty militias running around in fatigues w/ their jokey walkie talkies playing soldier boy in your michigan woods. you might want to take a look around your home state and begin to figure out that the unemployment that has destroyed the place is due to the policies of morons like miss alaska runner-up.

While Ryan has some good ideas, most embrace the failed no regulation, trickle down mantra of the GOP. True he does not engage in violence enhancing rhetoric but does little to condemn his party members doing it. He embraced the party of no ethic and then voted for some cloture over-ridden nominees. That seems hypocritical. I prefer the Alan Simpson ethic of compromise to get good GOP ideas into law. The health bill reduces costs nominally, but is a start. Britain after WWII addressed the health costs strongly and recovered from it's war debt. We still have not addressed the hole in medicare/medicaid and should start immediately before the boomers bankrupt medicare ending the program for everyone.

One of 'them'.

Sarah Palin lied about her bridge to now where.

She sees no need to be informed about anything.

She appears before the religious right bragging how she thought about her options before she decided to have a high risk child....overlooking that was a choice she made that she wants every other woman not to have....

She and her children have life time government sponsored medical care from the special program set up for Native Americans through her husband...

Of Course its ok for her to argue that no one else should expect health care as a right... she's got hers.

As phony as a $3 bill... Bimbos never have any trouble getting male followers.

Sarah Palin is a Bimbo with no intellect to engage in thinking about how to solve this Nation's problems or move it forward.

I have never seen so many men admit they think with their hangy down parts as Sarah Palin supporters seem to want to do.

Sarah Palin seems to be the life of every party she goes to; and as long as the money is right she will entertain the guests. I won't be suprised one day if she doesn't attend an event on behalf of Barney Frank. She doesn't seem to care if one group she talks to is at odds with another. She spoke at the Tea Party convention in Nashville; then turned up to campaign for John McCain who is being targeted for defeat by Tea Party groups in Arizona. Then she shows up at the rally against Harry Reid in Nevada who is being supported in his reelection bid by the NRA. Does she support the ideals of the Tea Party members and backers of the Second Amendment or not? I think she is trying to be everyone's favorite MILF for the right price. But is the audience getting their money's worth? Does someone who has to write their core principles in the palm of their hand to make sure they remember them worth the price of the ticket?

Posted by: CMAN27 | March 29, 2010 8:36 AM | Report abuse

What would really be helful is if the Teabaggers could precisely articulate their anger, instead of shouting meaningless slogans such as "We Want Our Country Back", or "We Want our Constitution Back"? The last time I looked, neither had disappeared into a black hole.

So, Teabaggers, give us precise, articulate, informed, and detailed, reasons why you are so angry. That, of course, requires that you do some bit of thinking, pondering, and informing yourselves by doing some serious research. Can you do that?

On the contrary, by keeping up with her it mystifies me as to where her supporters are coming from. She is a complete air head and her only idea is small government. It figures that a person that supported an Alaska Successionist Party, would want to promote small government. Paul Ryan is the only person in the country to try and articulate what he means it supporting small government. Unfortunately his ideas are non starters, the same old Republicans Mantra of investing social security in the stock market. The Stock Markwet has lost 25% of its' value since 2007, so what a terrible idea that is. Sarah Palin is flat out an airhead who has dumbed down politics to the point that it is shameful.

Sarah Palin needs to first be a good mother & train her daughters to use restrain rather than producing illegitimate children. It looks like the second one is getting baked to follow the footsteps of the older sister.

Sarah Plain is a loose wife & a Brainless Loose mom & only idiots & stupid people in the US follow her. Of course it also includes the retired saggy old cry baby who claims to be a war hero, John McCain. The old hat is a liar & a war monger. After he lost the election he promised to cooperate with President Obama but the senile bastard has a memory lapse and he has caused all kinds of obstacles & problems on the many challenges that faces this Nation. He is so desperate that now he is dancing around with the sleaze bag Sarah Palin. What is wrong with his wife, I guess elected officials have spouses who are dump & stupid & they will ignore anything to stay in power & steal from the American people. Shame on McCain for doing disservice to this country & its people. The party of no Good is trying to create a civil war among Black & White & other color minorities. I guess they want to get rid of color and all ethnic group, create a holocaust against the minorities specially the blacks & the Muslims & just reign the country arm in arm with the Israelis. I am not sure if this is indeed a sincere love affair or an affair based on the funding that AIPAC throws at these dishonest crooks.

How come McCain & Dick Cheney continue to live, they both need to pack their bags & hopefully get ready for their last journey. They are war mongers & they are unhappy dishonest mischief mongers. Overall the Republican party has created many problems for this country and they have stolen from the American people in broad daylight.

The American citizens need to wake up, get a reality check & do not let this party of no good create misunderstanding, fan hatredism among each other & do not beleive a word they say.

The Republicans are bribed by the power brokers of the Insurance companies & the strong unethical lobbyists who are preventing Americans to have government backed insurance. It is a sad day for all the unethical doctors who chose a noble profession only to become rich rather than serve humanity.

May God take john McCain & Dick Cheney soon & let there be a disease that should impact the mouth, hearing, & speech of all unethical & selfish, self centered & dishonest elected republicans who have turned a blind eye to the issues facing their constituents.

It's also scary, she preaches so much hate and discontent. What happened to politicians who put America first and worked to improve our country. Now republicans only try to tear down whatever positive steps that could happen. We survived eight years of Bush-Cheney. Can we survive another republican majority leadership?

My neighbors, what is happening to you all? I don't recognise you anymore! Aren't you the people going around the world as the saviors of democracy? Defenders of liberty? Fighting against terrorism and extremists? Yes, you are! I thought so!

I think it's time for many Americans to have a good look at themselves in the mirror! For the last week, many of your leaders, mostly republicans, have been giving a very distorded image of your sense of democracy and of your country all over the planet.

Mrs. Palin and co. are conducting themselves exactly like the extremists that your soldiers are fighting.

When a party leader and most probably a candidate in the next presidential election literally "targets" and "calls for the death" of elected congressmen and women because they voted on the health bill according to their conscience, I tend to get very scared!

And then, when these extremist persons representing a lot of you in congress, the senate or other levels of goverment call upon God to support and bless them, I freek out. GOD does not do politics. God is love, compassion for all that lives. God does not interfere in our human decisions, He gave man free will. So please, Mr. Palin and co. stop using His name for your own vile purposes.

To all of you the soul of America, do you really want your beautiful country to be gouverned par extremists? I don't think so ! You deserve better than that! You are a country with ideals "for the people and by the people".

How many of you, are ready to call the republican extremists out, to tell them enough is enough. Their recent actions have been talked about all over the world. Is this the picture of your country that you want the world to see?

I have family in the US and I love everyone of them dearly. I wish for them a country in sink with it's constitution.

I think the rise of Palin has as much to do with the media's schoolgirl crush as her base.
Polls constantly show her largely unfavored by the public. They just don't want to hear from her.
She is a failed vp candidate and half term governor who is now largely a reality tv celebrity.
She really has little to do with politics except to give speeches when, only when, she is paid obscene amount for her fee.
When has a failed vp candidate or ex governor warranted such attention?
And yet, whenever she posts on Facebook the media drops any important or substantive story to talk endlessly about Palin's facebook post.
Facebook. Honestly.
The media tries to say it's because the public cannot get enough of her. Riiight.
I ask, then why is her favoribles in the dumpster? Why does the public keep wishing she would go away.
Outside of her base, she has no appeal and frankly, with a voice like hers, only her rabid base can stand to listen to her.

Michigan1985, I have to confess--you have my coffee snorting out of my nostrils with your pathetic, adolescent "yearning" for Sarah Palin. Look. If Sarah Palin were a lake, there would be signs around her warning: NO SWIMMING DUE TO SHALLOWNESS. If she were the earth, we would all be in trouble because she would quit mid-stride in her journey around the sun! (Oh, I forgot! You still believe it is the SUN THAT REVOLVES AROUND THE EARTH!) If she were a star she would put out a great deal of heat but the light coming forth would be dim.

Palin attracts small minded jocks and empty headed women who still believe in the old traditional role model of females who "cleave" to their husbands and boy does she put out the cleavage.

Palin is a burger absent the meat. She is a hot dog with lots of relish, pickles, mustard and mayo but "weiner" and strangely enough, the men who are attracted to her also lack a weiner. Bill Kristol and Glenn Beck spring to mind!

Yes Indeedy! Pistol Moma with leathers just is a "true study in people following the blind." It is difficult to follow any words that flow from her mouth that have any meaning for anyone that has common sense.

So, one votes out those who seem in some minds not the right ones to govern. Then, put people in who are even worse and really do not appeal to the overall Nation.
So far with her following it seems to be missing certain populations of people.

Then, she delibrately states things that if some said the same statements would be handcuffed and put in lock up. She calls for revolution and says lock and reaload???? Okay, let Jesse or Al or Sotomayor's brother stand and tell others the same thing????? Oh that would be "terroristic threats"!!! Better believe that.

I sometimes wonder about dear Todd. Does he ever in life speak? or is he just amazed that she makes millions off some of these people?

Reality show-we have already had a preview. The poor turkeys; moose of the world. And golly gee-granny is back since she probably would be the only interpeter for her lingo. Ahhhh! a remake of Beverly Hillbillies-yep that explains it all.

What a PUNK this little effeminate, Capehart, is. Not even a first name. How very GAY of you. Let me tell ya, pretty boy; I'd rather have a BRIDGE TO NOWHERE, than this HIGHWAY TO HELL, that we've got now. This FAR LEFT Street Hustler, from the South Side Of Chicago. This HUGO CHAVEZ wannabe.
Guys like Capehart, they get all up in arms, if someone talks about HITLER. (unless it's one of them, calling one of us, Hitler) The similarities between Schicklgruber and Obama are incredible.
Hitler was a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER. He used his NAZIS (before they were in power) like Obama uses HIS STREET THUGS. (ACORN, SEIU, Black Panthers, Anarchists) Running through the streets. Intimidating anyone who might stand against them. Hitler was a NARCISSISTS. Just like Barry. Hitler thought that HE KNEW EVERYTHING. Also just like Hussein. And Hitler surrounded himself with anti-social freaks and homosexuals. Again, just like Jeremiah Wrights' boy. Isn't that right, Capehart?
So please, stop trying to scare everyone with images of A nice woman, with a nice family (who, incidentally, have ALWAYS been proud of this country) who has done good things for her Constituents when she was in office.
We like her. She's not the one giving CONVICTED BLACK PANTHERS, Get Outta Jail Free Cards. She's not the one RUNNING THIS COUNTRY IN TO THE GROUND. She's not the one trying to DEFEND the RIGHTS of the BUTCHERS that seek to kill us all, while at the same time, doing their best, to convict the very people who KEEP US SAFE. She's not TAXING our Employers to death. She's not DESTROYING OUR WAY OF LIFE. That's Capeharts' hero. That's the guy who went to MADRASSA in Indonesia as a boy. The guy who faced his prayer rug toward MECCA, five times a day, and prayed to ALLAH. That's the guy who has ALL OF HIS PERTINENT RECORDS SEALED IN A VAULT IN HAWAII.
Sarah Palin? That's all you got, pretty boy?

"When she speaks, I listen not only because she make sense, but also she because walks the walk" wrote Michigan 1985. Perhaps Michigan 1985 should do some fact checking before he/she puts too much stock in Palin and her view of reality. Even her old running mate, yep, the one she now "supports" released a number of emails to the media back in November when "Going Rogue" was published in an attempt to prove that her stories did not match reality. Going Rogue was nothing more than one huge complaint about McCain and the campaign in which she complained of not being able to share his views on a number of issues. I happen to really like McCain however, that she is now stumping for him is either a sad swallowing of a very large ego or a pretty large dose of hypocrisy on her part. Perhaps her reality has changed once more since her book was published.

As an Alaskan and sometimes visitor to Michigan, where many Alaskans came from (see the song "Saginaw, Michigan"), I can see why Caribou Barbie is so popular in the Midwest and less popular here after the reality set in. The story she is selling is the fantasy of "domestic common sense," the idea that the state or nation can be run like the stereotypical housewife runs the domestic sphere. Like most conservative policy provisions, it is based on Sunday School level fantasy about, to coin a phrase, "how things ought to be" and has very little to do with the realities of how things actually are. It is the same kind of homespun bunkum that endeared Reagan to the country in his image as America's Grampa rather than the slick Hollywood sleazeball he really was.
Grammar and spelling aside, Michigan 1985 can at least start to learn about how government really works in a plural democracy, and try to understand that compromise is the key to the national phrase, "e pluribus unum," which our own national Taliban would replace with "in God we trust" or maybe "Gott mit uns."

Sara Palin is just an opportunist. She would say and do just about anything to make a couple of bucks. Afterall, thats why she quit her job as governor of Alaska to make money speaking at rally's. She only tells them what she know they want to hear and leaves with fat pockets on their ignorance.

As I read through these comments, obviously scripted by left wing ideologues, I realize why we are so screwed up in this country. Most of you just don't get it; and if you do, you are enjoying the destruction of the greatest nation on Earth. That's the only conclusion I can come to.

Then I see someone is wondering why the teabaggers are so angry - and he wants details. Perhaps he should brush up on the constitution and the reasons why the founding fathers did what they did. That might give him a reason.

And if you think anger is going to disappear; you ain't seen nothing yet, 'cos in November those of us that do understand the constitution will once again have their say, and we will take back the country.

Oh, by the way, you're welcome to stay; however we may give you a book to read on the definition of "Representative Republic." It's really quite interesting; assuming you can understand it!
