Rielle Hunter bares too much

Of all the unattractive characters involved in the sordid sage of John Edwards, including the (thankfully) ex-candidate himself, we now have a hands-down winner for the title of most loathsome: Rielle Hunter. I don’t particularly hold it against Hunter that she gave an interview to GQ describing her relationship with “Johnny” -- “the force field of our love,” how they slept together the night they met, the sex tape. Tacky, certainly, but nearly everyone else involved in this story has had his (Andrew Young, the hapless facilitator) or her (Elizabeth Edwards, the tragic enabler) say.

No, the thing that clinches it for Hunter is the accompanying pictures. Hunter, belly bared, sweatpants provocatively untied, lying on a bed -- with her child. Almost as creepy, Hunter, pants off, pearls on, on a bed with plush toys, Kermit, Barney, Dora the Explorer. GQ had its big interview. Did it really have to sink this low in styling the photos? As for Hunter, the first words that leap to mind are, “What kind of mother…”

Sadly, we already know the answer.

"I am not making a penny from this interview!"... But I am posing pantless so I can cash-in in the near future!

How do you pronounce this woman's first name? Is it 'Reilly' or 'Rye-elle'? These fancy yuppie names confuse me and should come with a pronunciation guide.

Posted by: Baltimore11 | March 15, 2010 10:06 AM | Report abuse

I was tempted to rant and rave about why people like her don't go away and then I thought "hey, you read the article about her." So, she's news at least for a while. Whatever his moral failures, I would have at least thought Edwards had enough judgment to avoid this train wreck of a person and stuck with casual affairs, a la Tiger.

What ELSE would you expect from this shameless GRIFTER who aggressively went after a KNOWN to be married Senator with ZERO conscience?

I am actually starting to believe she is more than just a class-less home wrecker, I really do think she is mentally ill as well. Just one thing left to say---

RUN JOHNNY, RUNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!

The name is spelled Rielle, but it's pronounced "Tramp".

Can't understand WHY she posed in inappropriate clothes for those pictures! what is she trying to do to herself and daughter.. Honestly, she's a disgrace! Rielle, you made a mistake..with getting involved with a married man and this interview!

This is like watching Soul Train and nobody knows where the train is going or has a soul. They are all getting Blue Cross tho.

Well stated Ruth. The woman is a skank. She needs to go away.

Posted by: commentator3 | March 15, 2010 10:23 AM | Report abuse

Why is Rielle getting all the blame for those soft-porn photos? Where's the condemnation for the art designer and the [MALE] photographer who posed her, set up the background and lighting? Why is it always the woman who gets labeled, and not the male image-maker who is equally (or more) responsible?

The photos are despicable, but she didn't photograph herself.

Posted by: herzliebster | March 15, 2010 10:32 AM | Report abuse

Why isn't Edwards the one that people are calling names? He's the one who was married!

"The photos are despicable, but she didn't photograph herself."

True...but surely she knows how to say "No." Well, in theory anyway.

Personally, I think "Johnny" is the biggest t*rd in this particular punchbowl. But she finds it a comfortable environment.

Posted by: Skowronek | March 15, 2010 11:06 AM | Report abuse

She really is creepy. She needs to spend the remainder of her life in seclusion to spare the rest of us the annoyance of looking at her.

Truer words could not be spoken. Any person with an ounce of human dignity or compassion for what their child would one day experience would not say what she said or pose in such a cheap manner. She's a sad woman.

Envious a bit there, Ruth?

Doubt you could ever look that good.

(I do agree about it being tacky to have the kid in the picture.)

Typically a married man has an affair and we say he's a jerk and the woman stupid for having an affair with a married man. This case is over the top. Edwards was obviously thinking with his parts below the belt and is a total loser. For all kinds of reasons including having an affair while running for president, doing this while his wife has terminal cancer and the stupidest of all, not wearing a condom.

But this woman truly beyond the pale. So she had an affair. But she didn't crawl back under the rock from where she came, she allows herself to be photographed in this manner and gives a boneheaded hillbilly interview.

And to the poster who thought Ruth was "jealous" of how this woman looks -- sure, she is slim after having a baby, but she really isn't very attactive, she's rather homely.

So both Edwards and this woman are both equal skanks, how's that?

Pure trash. Sshe knew he was married and any woman who gets pregnant by a married man has a motive - but it didn't work he didn't leave his wife. All of which makes me wonder about "Johnny". Of course men sometimes just can't keep it zipped up.

How could anyone do that with their child is beyond any concept of decency. Just "pure D trash" as the saying goes.

So, this blond does have more fun! She is in love with herself. She done good! She got a baby, a house, and money for the rest of her life! And our "talking heads" and our country must love her...yesterday, today and forever! How can our soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world compete with this juicy, junk for junk food consumers and junk news consumers...We are what we are!" I have to say that she really looks great at 45! Those legs are to die for!

BTW, any time a woman complains about another woman "baring too much," that's always a sign of insecurity and jealousy... If there's anyone "homely" in this saga it's Ruth Marcus.

Posted by: eugene8 | March 15, 2010 11:44 AM | Report abuse

I normally have very few issues with the baring of skin, but in this case the photos generally, and the exposed midriff in particular, feel awfully tacky. Is she saying to all those mothers in the world---nah, nah, look: no stretch marks!? Or is she advertising her "unspoiled" form to potential successor suitors? Yuck.

Either way, ugly stuff.

Ruth, I have been following the Edwards/Youngs/Hunter fiasco for some time. It doesn't surprise me that Rielle is speaking out - I believe now that she has a contract with John Edwards for child support and a home he bought that is why why it has happened now and we will be hearing more from her in the future!

The articles that have recently been written about 'her quiet dignity' all really missed the boat (she couldn't speak out till she had the financial security). As it is said in other comments - "She is a sad woman."

My concern is the photographs that include her daughter, Dora the Explorer and all of Dora's friends in photos where Rielle is partially unclothed.

Where is Social Services, the manufacturer of Dora et. all? These all are in place for protection of a child.

Just when I think there is nothing more that can be written about this mess I get surprised. So for all of us it is a 'Stay tuned..."

Maybe we are tacky, she should rub our faces in it, it is the smell our media giving us sensationalist meat so a politician can be destroyed by those that specialize in destructive criticism and eliminating competition. It is the smell of our political dirt machines.
She is just doing what people have done forever, following her feelings and urges, but we think she should know better, but maybe we should know better ourselves.

Ms Marcus, I believe that your brief description of this situation says it all in capsule form. I knew that the word 'tacky' would have to star in the perfect version. Good job!

Ruth Marcus is as judgmental as it gets. Your FTC hubby probably freaked with a few law students once or twice...your life a perfect 10? His? Let's make it even personal...Are your two daughters free of flaws? Glass House lady? Sure you're not running for office (neither is Ryelle) you're just spewing personal filth all over a newspaper that oughta know better than to run blogs like yours. I thought you were a liberal. She's an independent woman that threatens you for some reason. Must be something in your past...

Posted by: rapimus1 | March 15, 2010 2:23 PM | Report abuse

She's not that hot.

This whole Edwards thing began with a big lawsuit win that netted him millions and made him a contender for the Senate.

It's sort of one of those mega-millions lottery winner stories.

Posted by: blasmaic | March 15, 2010 2:45 PM | Report abuse

Hunter is pathetic. Her money will soon be gone and her 15 minutes over very quickly -unless she gets a reality show. Feel sorry for the pretty little girl she gave birth to. Does the child have at least one semi-moral relative who can take her in?

Posted by: mirrorgazer | March 15, 2010 3:11 PM | Report abuse

These photos were like an audition. Watch for Hunter to pose for Playboy (or Hustler) in 5, 4, 3, 2...

Posted by: Nosy_Parker | March 15, 2010 3:14 PM | Report abuse

Oh, please, Ms. Marcus, spare us the faux moral outrage. Have you looked at the stuff your newspaper **routinely** publishes as "human interest" or "readers" or whatever you call them? Not to mention what kind of photos often accompany them. The obvious questions is, what kind of moralizing ... oh, wait, we already know the answer. The Post has a really nice compensation plan and the big buyout at the end of the rainbow...

Posted by: tdiaz | March 15, 2010 3:27 PM | Report abuse

I feel bad for the child. It's bad enough what she will have to grow up with. But now she's going to have these photos to look back on. This woman is a horrid mother for putting her child through these atrocious, tacky pictures. If she wanted to give the interview to clear the air, that's one thing. But posing like that with the little girl? That's just disgusting.

Posted by: laurah2215 | March 15, 2010 3:48 PM | Report abuse

Her name is pronounced Lisa

as in Lisa Druck, her riel name.

Posted by: vigor | March 15, 2010 4:22 PM | Report abuse

Gotta disagree. She's attempting to take advantage of what's left of her sexual charisma for whatever comforts she can get. He attempted to take advantage of the country's gullibility in order to become the most powerful man in the world.

Women like her are everywhere --- trading their charms (and sometimes their wombs) for upward mobility. While the presidency has known it's share of serial liars and men with heartless sexual appetites, such men aspiring to the presidency are still rarer and more dangerous. And we should object to them far far more, Ms. Marcus.

Blaming the other woman? Really? How far is the media --- who, remember, deliberately buried this story until Edwards could get ahead of it and then-candidate Obama could get clear of it --- going to stretch for this guy?

Posted by: edgydc | March 15, 2010 4:29 PM | Report abuse

There are only 3 sure bets that can destroy a politicians career: a dead girl, a live boy, or Rielle Hunter. Actually, you can talk your way out of the first two, but any association with moonboom Hunter is surely gonna end all aspirations.

Posted by: Martial | March 15, 2010 10:33 PM | Report abuse

I totally agree, Ruth Marcus. It wouldn't be so creepy if it were just her. But to pose that way with her daughter? And with a child's toys? What's the message there? I feel sorry for that child, who was rejected by her own father (before he acknowledged her). And then the child's mom presents herself as all the worst cliches about "the other woman."

The other woman in this case is destructive, impulsive, and fairly disgusting.

Posted by: cturtle1 | March 15, 2010 11:45 PM | Report abuse

Ruth, you must be kidding. Tacky, perhaps, but "most loathsome"? Compared with Edwards himself, the substance-free narcissist who once stood a plausible chance of being elected President of the United States? Or the wife and sycophantic aide who enabled him? Let's be honest - Ms. Hunter runs dead last in this field in the loathsomeness marathon.

Ok, from reading these posts it's safe to say that very few if any STRAIGHT MEN has commented! Yup, I said it... STRAIGHT. As in HE-TE-RO-SE-XUAL MEN!!!

So let me be one of the few. Look haters, remove the child and the stuffed animals... and the girl's got it going on! I don't give a crap about her morals since a) she's not my sister and b) I'm not married to her.

So on behalf of Rielle, suck it haters! You go girl!
