Rielle with cheese in GQ

Initial reactions to Rielle Hunter's interview with GQ were swift and strong. Ruth Marcus branded her "a hands-down winner for the title of most loathsome" among the cast of characters in "John Edwards: The Meltdown." When you see the photos of her or the video of the photos being taken of her you'll understand why she makes that assessment. But after reading all 9,000-plus words and the extra stuff online that didn't make it into the magazine, Edwards and Hunter share the most loathsome podium. And it revolves around one word: trust. You can't trust either of them.

When GQ writer Lisa DePaulo asked her if Edwards was okay with her doing the interview, Hunter said he was because "he knows how important truth is to me. Factual truth as well as spiritual truth." Asked why she thinks Edwards loves her, Hunter said, "He's very honest and truthful. And all of that was hidden." And when DePaulo asks "So you have enough of a bond with him that, even though you know he's lied to his wife and his state and the country, you really never worry that he will lie to you?," Hunter replies, "No. He does not lie to me. At all."

Wow, she's either the first mistress to believe that or she's suffering from an incredible case of Stockholm syndrome. But to think the latter, Hunter would have to be a hapless victim. No, no. This is the woman who had an affair with a man she knew was married. This is the woman who got pregnant with his child and willingly hid in the lap of luxury so that her "very honest and truthful" "Johnny" could continue his run for the White House. This is the woman who walked into court to testify before a federal grand jury in 2009 about $100,000 in payments she received from the Edwards campaign with their child on her hip facing awaiting cameras. And this is the woman Barbara Walters said called her yesterday, conveniently before "The View" went on air, and cried for two hours over the "repulsive" images in GQ.

"[Hunter] really is creepy," wrote a commenter to Marcus's post. "She needs to spend the remainder of her life in seclusion to spare the rest of us the annoyance of looking at her." With a possible indictment for Edwards, the existence of a sex tape featuring Edwards and Hunter and the potential for more musings from Andrew Young, the tell-all former Edwards aide, we're bound to be seeing more of all of them. Trust me on this.

Did anyone ask Dora the Explorer, Kermit the Frog and Barney if they wanted to pose next to this skank?

I can't believe we are stuck with these horrible, slimey people forever. They won't go away. They don't get it. The poor kid. She will probably turn out just like her parents. If this women loves her child she will just go away. Either that or the world is going to hate the kid too. Like it or not children suffer the sins of their fathers.

LOL @ reallyrogue!

Who thought having her wallow half-naked on her baby's stuffed animals was a good idea? Seriously, is that some kind of weird straight-man fantasy? I've never heard of it before.

She does not even come close to being most loathsome. Edwards was banging her while his wife is sick w/ cancer and doing all those cheesy interviews about his wedding anniversary at Wendy's every yearand lying REPEATEDLY to everyone. Sorry, the one of the Post's golden boys is scum.

To all those single guys out there looking for a girlfriend, here is a little advice: When you deal with someone like her, you don't walk away. You RUN!

I never thought I'd say this, but suddenly I miss Sarah Palin, who has now lost the title of Most Annoying Person to Speak Aloud in Public. This Hunter woman is really, really horrible--hugging her daughter in a pin-up, pantless pose and seeming puzzled about the "mighty wrath" of Elizabeth Edwards. John Edwards--sheesh. I can't believe I actually donated money to his campaign.

What's repulsive about the photos is that she used her child. She had an affair with a married man and then got pregnant and lived in the lap of luxury. No morals.

A married man has an affair with a woman and has a kid out of wedlock.
"I am shocked...shocked..."
Everyone get off your high horses...this story is as old as the institution of marriage.
I saw the pictures and am inclined to believe Ms. Hunter that she thought they were supposed to be from the neck up and thought the interview showed her as a new-agish person who is sincere about her view of herself. In fact she just seems human.
When over 50% of the population admit to infidelity (the real number is probably much higher), the moral outrage here seems ridiculous.
Too bad Capehart wasn't more concerned about who was doing who when the Republicans were doing it to all of us under Shrub.

Edwards wife was sick with "terminal cancer" in 2004....its now 6 years later. Was that too a lie? A political lie?

Here is a lawyer who "channels" and made himself rich by bankrupting companies. Why should anybody believe anything he says? After all, before the law its all relative.

Apparently she was forced to take off her pants for the photo shoot, because she doesn't like the pictures? Well you give nice thigh love!! be proud of that anyway!!

Ok, from reading these posts it's safe to say that no STRAIGHT MEN has commented! Yup, I said it... STRAIGHT. As in HE-TE-RO-SE-XUAL MEN!!!

So let me be the first. Look haters, remove the child and the stuffed animals... and the girl's got it going on! I don't give a crap about her morals since a) she's not my sister and b) I'm not married to her.

So all you haters can suck it!

This woman was a videographer--she knows better than most what these photographs would demonstrate.
