Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann meet Thelma and Louise

A new CBS News poll out today continues to show that Americans view former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) about as favorably as a gift Toyota.

Overall, just 24 percent of Americans view the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee favorably. Among Republicans, Palin's standing jumps to 43 percent. But after the book tour and the Fox News stuff and all that stumping for the Tea Party movement and Republican candidates, you wouldn't expect 29 percent of Republicans to be "undecided" or 12 percent of Republicans to say they "haven't heard enough." Palin is viewed "unfavorably" by 16 percent of Republicans.

palin_bachman.jpg

There is one section of the country where Palin is most popular among those who actually like her. According to the CBS News poll, "[S]he gets her highest favorable rating from Americans living in the Midwest at 31 percent." So, Palin was in friendly territory when she did a rah-rah for Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) in Minneapolis yesterday. They are the Thelma and Louise of politics. They met for the first time yesterday, so they won't be going on any road trips anytime soon. But given their penchant for saying and doing incendiary things, their popularity with the activist wing of the Republican Party and the rudderless state of the GOP, they are helping to drive the party off a cliff.

Minnesota conservatives are especially endeared to her because she's got her own version of that northern twang going on. They can relate.

Take Michele Bachmann.….Please. She recently suggested that the whole purpose of the census was so the government will know where the best places to set up internment camps will be. I realize that this silly woman has the IQ of your average hummingbird, but surely she must know that that statement is complete and utter nonsense. What does that tell you about her? It tells me more than I need to know. If there has been a more despicable demagogue in my lifetime I am not aware of it. In October of 2008, in an appearance on the Chris Matthews program, she stated (with a straight face, I swear) that all Democratic members of the House and Senate should be investigated for their “anti-Americanism”. I’m not makin’ this stuff up, folks. It makes one wonder if she’s ever given the Constitution even a passing glance.

NOTE TO THE PEOPLE OF MINNESOTA:

You gave us Bob Dylan, Judy Garland, Garrison Keillor and Eugene McCarthy. Is this half-witted twit the best you can do? Seriously.

The question needs to be posed: When and where will the first act of extreme violence be carried out? Think it won’t happen? It will happen and soon. The encouragement by these “responsible” legislators and commentators virtually guarantees as much. For months they have been egging on their mindless masses and it’s only a matter of time before one of them goes over the edge.

It's a little strange that the conservatives like jpfann who cheer Palin and put her in a quasi-leadership role then turn around and say that everyone else is "obsessed" with her incompetence, ignorance, etc.

Um, dude, she's in your leadership and she says stuff that's completely unhinged, so if you don't mind too much, we're going to keep on, like, noticing that. OK? Glad we've got that cleared up.

But as Mr. Capeheart points out, Palin's national numbers aren't too hot. If the GOP pins their hopes on the likes of her and Bachmann, they're in for certain disappointment.

Whether Palin is viewed favorably or not by a majority of Republicans is a secondary issue. What she will do is stir up the enthusiasm of some people to go to the polls and those people will not be voting for Democrats.

If this duo does drive off of a cliff I believe they will find more Democrats than Republicans at the base of the cliff after this November's election.

Four years ago the Republicans shot themselves in the foot with arrogance. The Democrats have done the same 4 years later. Does anyone on Capital Hill ever learn?

Bachmann just demonstrates that the tea party doesn't know much about the Constitution they claim to be defending. The Census is in it.

And she says health reform will lead to a 30% increase in abortions. With no funding for abortion, and lack of ability to provide health care for children being a contributing factor for abortion, the opposite should be the result, just as it was in MA (the abortion rate dropped with universal coverage). Once you realize you can get away with complete lies, some people abandon all shame and lie for popularity.

Palin quit her elected office and is now paid a great deal of money by Wall Street types to smile, wink, and shake her booty. All in order to rile up angry white people against the Democratic party of civil rights and a black president with an unusual name. Never mind that the best interests of folks being riled up are more likely to be served by the party currently in power than the party currently making Sarah Palin rich!

Michelle Bachmann is obviously pursuing the same career path. I seriously doubt either one is as stupid, psychotic, ignorant, and uneducated as they come across, to have risen to their current status. I do believe they are master manipulators. Ms Palin did receive her degree in broadcast journalism, which I suspect involves a certain amount of theatrical training.

They are both motivated by money. Rush Limbaugh has demonstrated over the years how much money those who benefit from keeping the masses divided against each other are willing to pay. They both know their audience and play to them. If they were at all interested in persuading others to their point of view; insulting them, calling them traitors, etc. would not be the best approach. Persuasion is clearly not what they are paid to achieve.

No, they are paid well by Wall Street to do one thing and one thing only; divide and conquer!

Wait a minute!

It is too soon to predict with any degree of confidence that Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann are driving the Republican party off the cliff.

As a matter of fact Sarah Palin's strategy of demagoguing and demonizing President Barack Obama and the Democrats as "socialists," and scaring the wits out of elderly Americans by saying without letup that the Obama universal health care provides for "death panels," is resonating with a large swath of conservatives and independents.

In reality what she is saying is far from the truth. They are really "lies." But probably having learned a lesson or two from Josef Goebbels, Hitler's brilliant propaganda minister, Sarah Palin is convinced that repeating her lies over and over again, like a broken record, will eventually be taken as the truth, in particular by Americans who are already predisposed to opposing what Mr. Obama and the Democrats are doing.

Sarah Palin has her eyes on the GOP presidential nomination in 2010--and she is working very hard to get it. If the GOP makes the mistake of giving the nomination to another Republican, she has the choice of getting the presidential nomination of the Tea Party--which will be a political party long before November of 2010--for sure.

Nobody's fixated on Palin except maybe some people on the right who swoon at the thought of her running for President. The reason she's always in the news is that she's always involved in a story somewhere.

Whether it's endorsing McCain in the Arizona senatorial election or stirring the tea party pot or in this case, campaigning for someone who herself is a comedy of errors.

If she'd go back to Alaska and stay out of the spotlight, no one on the left would care. Probably most people on the right too.

But the people who post their belief in Palin or Bachmann as leaders, as people who ever should be anywhere near a decision that affects other people's lives, as reputable, sane thoughtful politicians, as honest people even...

Those folks have a huge problem and may be certifiable.

phines1 is an example of what liberls are afraid of.

Popularity does not mean significance. You say she speaks the thoughts of this nation. That's just palinspeak. It means nothing because with a 24% approval rating there is a significant part of the country she doesn't speak for.

What you really mean is she speaks for you and you think you represent America. In fact, right now you and a few others are only the loudest part of this nation.

Those Bill Ayers types conseravtives squawk about were once very loud too, but they didn't represent America either.

Watch WWE and you'll see what Palin is all about. There are lot of people who swoon for the latest WWE star but it doesn't amount to significance...unless you're referring to $$$. In that case, Mrs. Palin is indeed significant.

She's significantly filling her bank account with your money.

Posted by: arancia12 | April 8, 2010 4:22 PM | Report abuse

Please don't tag them Thelma and Louise. It is just too easy. They are not even Lucy and Ethel. What they represent are 2 women who have no desire to help this country in any useful way but only to help theirselves and their respective ambitions. I wish the media would call them out. Both lie shamelessly and disrespect other Americans every opportunity they can get.

I am from Boston the cradle of democracy and if I hear either one them say that only the people who they think they represent are the true Americans my head is going to explode. The media also plays into this meme also why are you guys always going on and on about the "heartland of America."

One last point I watched a documentary by Nancy Pelosi's daughter about the teaparty members there was one guy going on about those New Yorkers and how they weren't real Americans and trust me I am no fan of New Yorkers and how they care more about the terrorists instead of the real Americans.

All I could surmise I quess the missed the fact that 911 happened in New York nevermind the 1st. World Trade Towers attack.

Then if the kids become more than they can handle they put them back into the system as foster kids or adults in foster care. Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin complement one another. Neither one of them has a good grasp of anything of consequence - be it political, historical, intellectual or otherwise. Both of them are more interested in being in the limelight and saying outrageous things (Sarah Palin's one-liners) that have no basis in fact, logic or common sense. Their deep and incessant hatred of President Obama deprives them of the ability and fortitude to examine, evaluate and analyze what they want to say before they open their mouths.
Given such commonality, perhaps these two Grand NO Party windbags should consider running in the 2012 presidential election on the same ticket (as Presidential/Vice Presidential candidates). And may I recommend that they hire the new and pathetic “I have never considered myself to be a maverick” John McCain to be their campaign manager?

Pelosi and Reid have worked very hard to do something FOR the American people. They are doing the job they were elected to do. Unlike Republicans, they have come to work and are doing the job they are being paid to do. They are not resorting to fear, scare and smear to indoctrinate gullible Americans.

Sarah Palin on the other hand is a quitter. She quit her job in order to make money by spreading lies and stirring up hatred among people who need no help.

Michele Bachmann has made a conscious effort to do everything she can to see our President and our country fail. She is currently being paid tax dollars for doing absolutely nothing. She criticizes everything and just like Palin offers no suggestions.

Neither Sarah Palin or Michele Bachmann have offered any answers. They just spout divisive, hateful rhetoric. Neither have a clue but they vilify our President each and every day. Neither have the intelligence or experience to deal with the immense problems facing our country today. I mean, after all Sarah Palin couldn't even be bothered to do her own interviews for her faux Fox TV show.

What have they done for our country? What have they done for their states? How can anyone listen to their rhetoric and not ask what their solutions are for the problems currently facing us? If Sarah Palin was the answer, why didn't she and McCain win the Presidential election ? I mean the majority of the American people ran away from Palin/McCain as fast as they could. No, Palin and Bachmann are the worse of the worse that could happen to America but thankfully the majority of Americans already know that.

The 3 headed Cerebus of Palin, Bachmann, Foxx left out Foxx from the article. The ridiculous statements and not even smart enough to replace gunsights with pink slips on Facebook pages drive sensible people also fed up with government away from the Glenn Beck type of speaker. The signs at their health care meeting, the spitting, the slurs, the Armey "talking points" to disrupt health care discussions, all drive independents from the Tea Party. The new strategic arms reductions with Russia will have to be verified by the senate. With a sensible Lugar leading the charge the GOP won't be able to fillibuster. They may even come to their senses and get their good ideas in for yes votes in bills.

If Palin is as stupid as the media says she is, why, oh why do they keep writing stories about her? EVERY DAY! Her EVERY MOVE is watched, reported on and commented about.

If they're trying to convince her followers not to pay attention to her, they've failed.

If they're hoping she goes quietly into the sunset, I'm afraid they're going to be disappointed.

If they really didn't care about her, she would not be making headlines in every media outlet, practically every day.

The only logical conclusion is that they are SCARED TO DEATH of her. Scared of the support she receives, the adulation that is directed toward her, and the amount of money she generates. The media knows that she is the Number One target to go after, so they sling more and more arrows in a desperate attempt to discredit her.

Result? Her legions are growing, and her message is clicking with more and more people.

Thanks media! Keep it up! The more hate and vitriol you direct at her, the more fans and supporters she gains. The American people are on to you and your leftist, statist agend. You are no longer relevant, you no longer resonate with the masses and your ratings prove it.

Hard for Capehart to ever acknowledge that a majority of voters no longer care for Obama and other liberals so they try to make fun of others. Looking at the disapproval ratings for Obama, the terrible health plan, Obama's ill advised nuclear policy, and his tax and spend liberalism they should understand November will be a route.
===============
these two cartoon characters couldn't hold any kind of conversation with Obama. ("you betcha" can only take you so far)
I hope they do run.. he'd definitely get a 2nd term... and that's a good thing.

I LOVE them. If only this continues. I look forward to a Palin/Bachman ticket in 1012 PLEASE. Obama is so cool. He has weathered all of this admirably and is a shoo-in to be our next President. He second term wil be much easier because the country will finally forget about him being "black". That is his biggest problem and you all know it! What a cool guy. These two make it all so exciting. I love it!

Those who wonder why others are "fixated" on Sarah, it's because she's a slow-motion train wreck, with her white-trash family and hollow verbiage, her appeal to simpletons who do not know that Africa is a continent, not a country. She's hilarious.

Please, . . PLEASE run both of these examples of American Conservatism in the next presidential elections!!

Palin's disrespect for the environment has damaged Alaska's wildlife and endangered Alaska's natural heritage. Ironically in March 2010 Discovery Communications announced that Palin was to host her own TV show on the beauty of Alaska. Palin belongs on Fox not Discovery. Please see THE GREEN MARKET.

Palin and Bachmann are not wearing American flag pins. Are they anti-American?

Neither of them has produced a birth certificate.

What are they hiding?

to all,

but especially to the LEFTISTS, the "obama worshipers", the UNthinking lunatic fringe of the DIMocRAT party & to every other LIB, who has posted here:

in NOV2010 it isn't even going to be "pretty" for you = the DIMocRAT extremists (like Princess Pelosi, Barney "The Bandit Queen" Frank, Chuckie "The MOUTH" Schumer and Harry Reid) are taking the DIMs right over the cliff, like so many lemmings & all of the DIMocRATS are too brain-DEAD to know that they are THROUGH.

BOTH houses of congress will be solidly in GOP hands come Jan 2011 & then we can roll back FOREVER all the foolish/leftist/ignorant nonsense passed by the DIMs in just one two year term & get this nation back to a land of hope/liberty that 80-90% of Americans can feel proud of.

ENJOY the next 7 months in power DIMs, as they will be your last, for a really long time.
(i travel about 20 states, for the NGO that i now work for & people are MAD at BHO & "his merry band of nitwits, BIGOTS, socialists, fools, antisemites, LIBS, union bosses & common criominals." = BHO couldn't win dogcatcher in NOV 2010 or 2012.)

btw, tell me: WHICH political party has a serving US Senator, who is a current/life-long national officer of the KKK?

could it be Robert KKK Byrd, DIMocRAT of WV? - YEP that's WHO.
(DIMocRATS, thy name is HYPOCRITE.)

NOPE, you're the one who's wrong.

"the brain-DEAD DOU" of DUMB & DUMBER is "Princess Pelosi" & "Prince Harry Reid", who will be G.O.N.E., GONE from power in about 9 months & their DIMocRAT party will be "history", as a real threat to liberty.

"The light at the end of the tunnel" for the DIMocRATS is a fast freight train headed right at their (empty) little pointed heads & they have their "EYES WIDE SHUT" to the TRUTH.

who will be horrified/surprised/weeping on the morning after this year's election, when the DIMs have lost BOTH houses.

for your information: those, who endlessly rant/rave/complain/whine/carp about style over content, generally are not intelligent enough to "contribute" anything else to the discussion
AND
they are endless surprized when their thought-free comments are simply dismissed/ridiculed as the ranting of an "empty-head".

Due to these two and their strong-armed, disgusting allegience to the pukes, their
body has lost the respect of the American

BHO even makes Jimmy Carter look BRIGHT/COMPETENT/QUALIFIED to be POTUS
AND
Richard M. Nixon look HONEST!
(Rep. Joe Wilson,R of SC, was 100% correct about BHO. he is an obvious/arrogant/clumsy LIAR & nothing more than that.)

this November will be a BLOODLETTING for the clue-LESS DIMocRAT extremists. = BOTH houses of congress will be in GOP control in Jan 2011 & Jan 20,2013 will be BHO's last day in office to EMBARRASS the American people.

"the blow that killed father" for BHO & the DIMs was their so-called "healthcare reform", with its many BRIBES, BACK-ROOM DEALS, DIRTY TRICKS & arrogant disregard for what 2/3 of the voters wanted.

Teaxsnative46, No I have a master's degree! How's it going in Texas where most people think we lived at the same time as dinosaurs, or aren't sure? And they don't want Jefferson taken out of history texts because of his separation of church & state stance? Being from the most ignorant state must be hard. Don't worry you'll be fighting Mexico when the immigrants vote to secede and join Mexico. I'll be pulling for you and say hi to the dinosaurs. Oh, by the way you only need to press the button once to submit your comment. They must not have gone over that in school!!!

crossroadshow,

FIRST: the WPs system kept telling me that the previous post was not successfully posted & had to be reloaded, so that ones NOT my problem. - also i called the WP & asked the "nice lady" at the post to remove 2 of the 3.- they are all 3 still there.

SECOND: whatever else you may say of TEXAS, at least we were NOT stupid enough to vote in mass for BHO, America's DUMBEST, LEAST qualified & most RADICAL POTUS.===> a dear friend of mine from grad school days/DAZE, who used to be a senior staffmember of Martin Frost's (D,TX) office tells me that BHO is widely regarded, even within the DIMocRAT party as a disaster, that will take the DIMs back (perhaps permanently) to being the minority party in BOTH houses of Congress, starting in JAN 2011 & will LOSE by a landslide in 2012, regardless of whom he faces in the general election.
(my guess is the BHO will not even win his primary, as right now he couldn't win dogcatcher = his personal rating today is 39% positive & falling.)

so obviously, we Texans are far smarter than the population of any of the "blue states". = we knew what an unmitigated DUNCE that BHO was, well before he moved into the WH.

finally, reference: BHO & his lack of gray matter & basic honesty makes him look LESS able as POTUS than Jimmy Carter & LESS honest than Richard Nixon. = we Americans are in for 2.5 more years of embarrassment.
(whenever i travel abroad, most recently to Swizerland, i'm constantly asked by foreigners why we "yanks" were stupid enough to elect a pitiful, naive, simpering DOLT, as leader of our nation. = Europeans "pat him on the back" (and tell him how great he is) to his face & laugh AT him & talk about how stupid, inept & naive he seems, behind his back.)

Jan 20, 2013 cannot arrive soon enough to suit me.

Sarah Palin opposes the Pope.
Michele Bachmann is anti-catholic.
President Obama is in agreement with the Pope.

Pope Benedict XVI Statement on Nuclear Weapons

"What can be said, too, about those governments which count on nuclear arms as a means of ensuring the security of their countries? Along with countless persons of good will, one can state that this point of view is not only baneful but also completely fallacious. In a nuclear war there would be no victors, only victims. The truth of peace requires that all - whether those governments which openly or secretly possess nuclear arms, or those planning to acquire them - agree to change their course by clear and firm decisions, and strive for a progressive and concerted nuclear disarmament. The resources which would be saved could then be employed in projects of development capable of benefiting all their people, especially the poor.

In this regard, one can only note with dismay the evidence of a continuing growth in military expenditure and the flourishing arms trade, while the political and juridic process established by the international community for promoting disarmament is bogged down in general indifference. How can there ever be a future of peace when investments are still made in the production of arms and in research aimed at developing new ones? It can only be hoped that the international community will find the wisdom and courage to take up once more, jointly and with renewed conviction, the process of disarmament, and thus concretely ensure the right to peace enjoyed by every individual and every people. By their commitment to safeguarding the good of peace, the various agencies of the international community will regain the authority needed to make their initiatives credible and effective."

Palin will never run for President. First, she would have to get through a couple of debates with fellow Republicans, and she doesn't have enough room on her extremities for all the notes she would need. Secondly, assuming all the other Republican candidates died, leaving her the last best hope of the RNC, she would not beat the President. Tea baggers may carry ugly signs and loaded guns, but those rich white guys are the least likely to vote. Third, if the world was ending and she was elected, she would suddenly realize that she was taking a huge pay cut, would have to talk to real press about real events, and would have to WORK for a living. She is not willing to do any of that, heck, she isn't even willing to mother the prop, er, toddler, she has back in Alaska. What makes you think she cares about YOU when she doesn't even appear to love her kids? She cares about being on the news and making money. Period.
