Refudiate: Sarah Palin's new political language

By Alexandra Petri

Refudiate: (verb) a word Sarah Palin just coined on Twitter.

Meaning: something "peaceful muslims" should "pls" do.

Use in a sentence: "Ground Zero Mosque supporters: doesn’t it stab you in the heart, as it does ours throughout the heartland? Peaceful Muslims, pls refudiate."

Country of Origin: Unclear, but you can see Russia.

Explanation: "'Refudiate,' 'misunderestimate,' 'wee-wee'd up.' English is a living language. Shakespeare liked to coin new words too. Got to celebrate it!"

Note: As someone who has never, personally, been "wee-wee’d" up but thinks it sounds like a painful process that would be difficult to reverse, I’m overwhelmed by Palin's boldness. Churchill said of Ramsay MacDonald that "He has, more than any other man, the gift of compressing the largest amount of words into the smallest amount of thought." But why even bother with the words? Sarah Palin has broken down the last boundary, and now the sky is her limit. Soon, her speeches will just be things like: "For too long, Americans have wandered in a gormless wabe, mimsy and absturpated. Can’t the U.S. government corribulate this reticulousity?" Well, can we? I'm not sure.

Sure, Shakespeare did this, but he was -- how to put this? -- Shakespeare. He wasn't trying to encourage people to take action on the political scene. He was writing plays, and his words usually came with context -- something "refudiate" lacks. I still am not entirely sure what it means, and if someone told me to "pls refudiate" anything, my circuits would be overrun, and I would have to lie down somewhere. Besides, just because Shakespeare did something doesn't make it all right. He also wrote "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and that includes fairies and men with donkey heads -- two things I doubt Palin would endorse.

Maybe she'll prove me wrong and "refudiate" will catch on. But if she runs in 2012, I hope we’re horpswangling enough to grountify her. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Bush mangled the English language too but at least he didn't tour the country acting like he was some kind of big expert, nor did he make the point of every speech to demonize progressives and the sitting President.

She should have just tweeted: "whoops, meant repudiate"

Instead she gives some kind of lame excuse trying to justify her obvious ignorance by comparing a term our President used "wee wee'd up" to her statement then compare herself to William Shakespeare.

Wee wee'd up = intentional slang
Refudiate = unintentional slaughter of the English language

Well, she does have one thing in common with William S., they both have written a lot of fiction.

this leads me to believe that:
1 the liberal left does not have much on Palin if this is what they hang on
2. they are terrified of her

It should come as no surprise that Sara Palin would A) make such a blatant semantic blunder and B) Compare herself to a literary genius whom she's probably never read.

Any "serious" HS student would roll their eyes at such ignorance.

In terms of content, that to is devoid of intelligence and at best is a collection of cutesie phrases and metaphors comparing women to various species of carnivours.

The woman is simply stupid white trash with a fancy wardrobe

You have to feel sorry for the sufferers of Plain Derangement syndrome. So every typo or misstatement of Palin's becomes not one but two (see 44)articles in the WP? Don't you feel sorry for these so-called journalists? Is there a cure for this obsessive behavior? What rocks do they lift up to find these ignorant writers, anyway?

Palin would have had to know what she meant to tweet this. Obviously, this attendee at 5 different institutions of higher learning doesn’t have a clue. I don’t know how she got through school, but I bet she spent a lot of time copying other people’s papers and work. It is obvious after listening to her for just a few minutes that she doesn’t have a brain in her head—there is nothing up there but empty space. Unfortunately, for those in her own party who recognize her intellectual vacuity for what it is, the Republican Party comprises a majority of white women and that being the case, Palin may have a strong shot at the nomination after all.

I chatted with a friend over the weekend who works with many conservatives and she informed me that many conservative women there daily listen to Rush Limbaugh, but not one conservative male in her workplace does. I have no way of knowing if this is typical, but if it is a widespread phenomenon it says a great deal about the psyche of the conservative white female. I would like to see a gender and racial breakdown of the Rush Limbaugh audience—I think it would be informative to see who is actually listening to this right wing windbag who seems to love Palin.

Another moron who just doesn't get it. You see, moron, if Palin had just said, "oops, I meant repudiate," there would be no story. But she had to go and compare herself to Shakespeare. That's why everyone is laughing at her, numbnutz.

Those of you who aren't laughing are like the sucker in the poker game.

1. Aldol...you've obviously not been paying attention if you can suggest that this is the only thing "the liberal left" - and many others, by the way - "have on" Palin...which is why, yes, many are terrified: of her ignorance, lack of understanding and minimal skillset for major political office.

2. yes...sure Aiden3...mispronouncing a word in a speech is the same as not understanding the language you are speaking or writing...or tweeting.

3. Shakespeare at least had a working knowledge of the English language before he then started to "play" with it for the purposes of his writing.

Posted by: docrt925 | July 19, 2010 4:16 PM | Report abuse

Funny, I don't remember the Washington Post devoting so much print (or server space, as it were) to President Obama's very similar "coinage" -- "wee-wee'd up."

Arguably, that sounds quite a bit more asinine, as he didn't merely mis-speak and mangle a word, but, lacking the word he wanted to use ("all keyed up"? how about "excited"?) created a particularly bizarre word out of thin air.

Then there's the "corpse-men" in place of "corpsmen," etc. But the Washington Post somehow found it more interesting when an out-of-office woman mis-spoke than when the President of the United States did, on multiple occasions. Do you people even feign objectivity these days, or should we just assume you're being funded by donations to the DNC? :)

Posted by: vette330 | July 19, 2010 4:18 PM | Report abuse

Why oh why is this woman *still* in the news?!?

I'll tell you why: She is the quintessential "useful idiot".

All the anti-incumbent fervor, the tea parties and yes Sarah Palin are about one thing only: Regaining control of the senate before the democrats let Bush's $200 BILLION tax cut on the top 0.1% of americans expire!

The top 0.1% is not ordinary millionaires like me, or any of the sucessful small business owners you might admire or hope to become some day. They are the super-rich. They have had control of the media since Reagan deregulated it.

They don't care if America goes down the toilet, because they already own a tropical island. They brought you the mortgage meltdown and the gulf oil disaster. They are the Bernie Madoffs, Ken Lays and Jeff Skillings of the world. (or more accurately, the hundreds just like them, who haven't screwed up badly enough to be thrown under a public bus)

Watch this short video and you'll understand how America really works:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn4daYJzyls

THIS is why NOBODY discusses the distribution of wealth in America and everyone is discusses Sarah Palin's typos.

They are using red states and blue states, tea parties and manufactured outrage over Acorn hookers and gay marriage to keep the other 99.9% of us divided and powerless.

We are being played...

Actually, the level of discourse has been generally something of a negative frenzy from the 'liberals' and the 'conservatives' -- moderates have long been scared off by the constant polemic tone of messages in all of the Post comment areas. Serious discussion is simply too much work and requires too much thought I guess, so instead people engage in spear tossing and catching contests.

I’m no fan of Palin but if you think you are more successful then her by all means post why. If not then you making fun of someone who’s better of than you only makes you look foolish. Either way her math skills seem pretty sharp at 75K per speech she’s doing pretty well……

Whatever may be said of Sarah Palin
Lack of clarity in what she says is not her failing.
Back in the days of WJC
The meaning of "sin.cer.i.ty"
(In the Oval Office prevailing)
Was, more or less, as follows:
Never say what you mean, or mean what you say. Always be sincere!

So folks weaned on WJC's view of sincerity
Most likely would think Sarah tends to be insincere
Because she tends to say what she means and acts accordingly--
A convoluted version of WJC's definition, it would to them appear.

I recall when Palin was announced as the GOP VP candidate receiving e-mails from conservative friends (gawd bless their dense craniums) where-in there was a flattering picture of Palin captioned “We get THIS…” followed by an unflattering picture of Biden captioned “…and they get THIS”. So let’s be extremely blunt about Palin; she was selected on MILF appeal alone as the McCain campaign was desperate for anyone or anything that could attract and energize Joe-six-pack even if they had to aim for the groin.

Mincing no words Palin is a mentally vacuous, narcissistic, opportunist who will say or do anything for attention and the ensuing money regardless of dragging her followers deeper into the pit of ever growing ignorance and fear in the process –period.

The GOP did not disappoint by dumbing-down the campaign with Palin in its desperation to win and Palin continues not to disappoint by following one stupid remark or action with yet another. She is the mesmerizing witch of the dark ages with a Blackberry.

Just because someone is willing to donate their hard earned cash to a celeb doesn't make that celeb knowledgeable. As long as she keeps trying to tell me she has some erudite knowledge and wants to have a role in running my country then I'm going to hold her accountable for being ignorgraphic.

The left has become unhinged when it comes to Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement. Those who are now chuckling over "refudiate," are the same ones who say Obama's opponents are "uncivil." They either lack the capacity for irony or are selectively principled.

koolkat_1960, you're wrong. President Obama's "Corpse" and 57 states comments were a hoot, as were these other classic President Obama gaffes:

- When running for President, candidate Obama bemoaned the lack of Arabic translators in the military in Afghanistan, despite the fact that Afghans don't speak Arabic.
- He welcomed crowds in Sunrise, Florida and Sioux Falls, South Dakota by calling them "Sunshine" and "Sioux City," respectively.
- He said the spirit of hope from the civil rights protests in Selma, Alabama inspired his birth, although he was born four years before those protests.
- He claimed his uncle was in the American brigade that liberated Auschwitz, when the Red Army liberated that camp.
- He finds it "embarrassing" that American's don't speak languages other than English, and he does not speak either Spanish or French
- He gave a Memorial Day speech in which he claimed he saw many "fallen heroes," in the "audience here today."

Just because you like President Obama and don't like those who oppose him doesn't mean his gaffes aren't funny. You can't refudiate how gaffetastic they trulifically are.

arancia12, you're correct that President Obama doesn't compare himself to Shakespeare. Shakespeare is not nearly a big enough comparison for President Obama's ego. In his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, he said his nomination was "the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal."

Nice "azure," pun, BTW.

SP didn't "coin" a word. She misspoke. She actually thought it was a word until she was corrected. Whereas Shakespeare was deliberately filling in a gap in the language he knew to exist. Very different.

But what I do not understand is why this and every other Twitter utterance merits an article in the Washington Post. Here is a politician who has spurned mainstream journalism and speaks only to the chosen few -- those who can't or won't ask her any questions or confront her with any facts -- yet she gets exactly as much coverage in the Post as if she held a daily press conference. If she disparages the "lamestream media" and talks to Twitter only, why shouldn't people have to go to Twitter only to see what she has to say? Why is the Post willingly disseminating her every word and getting nothing in return?

"She should have just tweeted: "whoops, meant repudiate""

I suppose she might have, if there hadn't already been a video of her using the "word" on FauxNews. She obviously has thought this was a word for awhile.

The real odd thing here is that we still have no idea if she knows the difference between "refute" (to insist that something hasn't happened) and "repudiate" (to denounce something). So I still don't know: does she want Muslims to deny that someone wants to build a Mosque in NYC, or does she want them to denounce the building of a mosque. Either one is a very odd thing to ask free people in a society with a First Amendment to do. But then, Sarah and her extremist followers don't really believe the Constitution applies to anyone except themselves, which makes "repudiate" the likely meaning she intended, no matter how abhorrent and unamerican the demand may be.

As a life-long liberal I share none of Palin's politics but am a great admirer of her use of language and particularly her near poetic ability to coin language that resonates with her base. "Refudiate" is a case in point, an overloading of "repudiate" with "refute". She wants the "good" Muslims to repudiate their fellows who want to build a mosque and at the same time smuggle in the idea that they should refute their beliefs as well, something sure to resonate with evangelical followers.

Mortgage lenders are taking a harder look at prospective borrowers whose income has temporarily fallen while they are on leave, including new parents at home taking care of a baby. Even if a parent plans on returning to work within weeks, some lenders are balking at approving the loans."

Banning Mosques in New York is a great idea, I think. And considering all the terrorist acts that have been committed by people of the Christian faith, they should be banned too. Less religion = less ideological strife = less terrorism. When are people going to realize that it is all bunk? Without it, people don't suddenly become criminals, and with it, they don't necessarily avoid becoming one. Charity works fine without them -- the only difference between having them and not having them, is that without them, the clergy would have to find productive jobs instead of lying about things (saying they KNOW things to be true when really it is just a game of pretend, placebo at best, neurotic delusion at worst). The greatest moral strides before, during and after the Enlightenment, have been taken outside religion, and the churches get dragged screaming and kicking into the future. The very word "religion" means --, according to Cicero, the authority in this -- "tightly bound, as with a rope." The world doesn't need it.

And then in 2013, she'll quit to go write another book. Sarah Palin is the best thing to happen to Democrats, as she successfully splits the Republican party apart even more than they are doing, themselves.

Also I love when Republicans quote "Obama's approval rating" as currently, it is about even if not slightly more positive. If Bush had not had 9/11, both approval ratings would be about the same. (I'd say go look at a comparison graph and notice Bush's downward trend until the WTC attacks, but facts seem to either scare Republicans or just go right over their heads so that probably wouldn't matter much.)

The word she was struggling to find was "refute" and mixed it it with "repudiate"; either of which would have meant something. Bush often "misremembered", but he was trying to lessen the impact of saying "I forgot", which would've made him look more foolish.

Lending a meaning to a new word must either be to minimise an older word or phrase, or, to coin a word that has no equivalent. Otherwise it's just sloppy language or an attempt to create a popular slang term. She's popular enough among the language-poor so it wouldn't surprise me to see it used by them - making their protestations sound even more incomprehensible than they typically are.

What do you expect? Palin went to 6 different colleges to get a 4 year degree. Todd didn't graduate from high school (he earned a GED later, I "think"). The oldest son didn't graduate from high school. Bristol didn't graduate (she had a baby instead) but supposedly she is taking classes again. Queen Sarah travels the country putting down higher education as "elitist" as if it was a bad thing, so what do we expect? That's why the rest of the world laughs at us while the American population gets dumber and dumber, thanks to the Rethuglican mentality.

I'm sure she is thrilled at all the extra publicity and no one asking her to explain herself, how what she says jives with our Constitution, and if this went to court, where she thinks a lawyer could argue against it on Constitutional grounds.

But the press is way to happy to write fluff columns like this instead of taking what this dangerous woman, who thinks Consitutional rights can be refudiated, seriously and challenging her. When person is talking about only abiding by the Constitution when she agrees with the results, she MUST be challenged and called out for her anti-Americanism and cowardice. GENUINERISK:

Before you criticize Palin for her attitude toward elitist education, and her lack of the same; you must read what current Congresswoman from Texas Sheila Jackson Lee said just last week on the floor of the House

“ . . .today we have two Vietnams, side by side, North and South, exchanging and working. We may not agree with all that North Vietnam is doing, but they are living in peace.”

There's more, but you get the idea. Lee is also a proud graduate of Yale University (which is having a bit of a rough decade) Aside from the geopolitical ignorance exhibited, would it be unfair of me to point out that a Yale grad should know that only east and west can be side by side, never north and south? LOL

The interesting question is why is Palin's remark gets front pages news and Jackson's, a current voting legislator, doesn't.

PS I'm a bit of a liberal myself if that matters.

All public figures make mistakes of this kind when two synonyms come to mind"and the camera is rolling.

I enjoyed Obama showing his knowledge of military vocabulary when he said "corpse" and "corpseman".

http://www.nowpublic.com/world/obama-mispronounces-corpsman-prayer-breakfast-corpse-man-2570232.html

February 5th 2010 - At the National Prayer Breakfast yesterday, President Obama slipped up in his speech when speaking of a Navy corpsman named Christian Brossard.

However instead of pronouncing the word corpsman like kawr-muhn, he pronounced it as corpse-man.

... but of course that was an intelligent mistake and Palin's or Bush's make them illiterate for WaPo journalists and "progressives".

What a waste of time!

While you're at it, why don't you also excoriate her for coining another new word -- "pls"?

To people such as Petri, it is apparently of greater concern that Palin made a minor error while typing than it is that a mosque is being planned for Ground Zero. With such petty, immature people in the media as this Petri woman, ss it any wonder why we find ourselves facing double-digit unemployment, a 12-digit national debt, and a President about whom we know nothing, including nothing from college or law school that would attest to his highly-touted (at least, among media sycophants such as Petri) "brilliance"?

I'll take the person who strongly condemns the establishment of a mosque at Ground Zero and who uses a minor malapropism anyday over a dilettante and Big Nothing who stutters and stammers without his teleprompter and who is busy pitting Americans against each other while he flies around at taxpayer expense campaigning or vacationing.

54465446, My previous comment was intended as riposte to your earlier comment that "The interesting question is why is Palin's remark gets front pages news and Jackson's, a current voting legislator, doesn't." I think I've adequately established that the reason is that Jackson's remark about "North" Vietnam getting along with "South" Vietnam was merely stupid, while Palin's remark made headlines due to its underlying religious hatred.

Palin's comment is reminiscent of that of the bigoted kid in Porky's who kept calling a Jewish kid a "kite", to which said Jewish kid finally informed him of the correct term, adding "You're too stupid even to be a good bigot". See:

I must disagree. If you look back through the comments almost no one wrote about the context, only the quote itself. I don't think Palin is stupid or a bigot. (though I would never vote for her) I think she is ignorant of much of the world outside her experience, a bad quality in a President, but not itself stupidity. One doesn't have to be a bigot to have some fundamental problems with Islam, as currently practiced in the world. In no Islamic country in the Middle East would a synagogue be allowed to open in this manner, nor can Jews and Christians openly practice their civil rights. Turkey is the only wholly democratic Islamic nation in the world, and that only because their military keeps it that way. Labels like bigot don't shed much light on the controversy at hand, and make reasonable discourse on the location of the mosque unlikely.

RedderThanEver's 10:32 p.m. post illustrates the most amazing of Ms. Palin's abilities. With each manifestation of her limitations, she actually GAINS popularity in certain quarters. If this woman were to actually admit to being stupid, there would probably be no stopping her! If only I had her ability to attribute my shortcomings to media bias . . . .

Oh, and RedderThanEver, let me connect the dots for you in terms of what we know about Obama. Only the best of college students generally makes it into a graduate school, such as law school. Only the best of those applicants gets into one of the elite law schools. Then only the best of those make it onto the law review.

Obama was President of the Harvard Law Review. With him having made it over so many hurdles in order to have gotten there, one does not have to see a transcript to surmise that Mr. Obama is no dummy.

Now I know this might be difficult for you to understand or accept. In fact, if Obama were to come directly to your house and show you certified copies of every report card he ever received, signed and notarized by each and every teacher he ever had, you would no doubt respond in typical birther fashion: "See, he refuses to produce any documentation."

Now I am willing to allow that Ms. Palin may not actually be the bimbette that she appears to be. Maybe it took 4 or 5 different colleges before she could find a challenging enough program. But don't EVER address the subject of Sarah Palin's intellectual capabilities in the same post in which you discuss Obama's. It is an utterly absurd comparison.

If I remember my history of the English language class from college correctly, William Shakespeare did not coin a single new word in any of his plays or sonnets, and John Milton only coined one -- Pandemonium.

However, Shakespeare used the words in existence to supremely great effect.

Why give these incompetent, ignorant idiots such a massive stage as the front page of America's national press?
This is what happens when the media gets bored, all of America finds itself dumbed down by 10%.

neilmckenna --

Your response is simply absurd. You think that a minor typo while making a larger point of great importance is a "manifestation of her limitations"? Then you must think that 90% of the posters to this website are idiots, because they (including myself) make typos and minor "brainos" all of the time. Unlike you, however, I do not assume that such people are of low intelligence. In fact, it is very often the case that the opposite is true. I work with an individual who is brilliant in his creative scientific thinking ability and wise leadership of our company but who can't spell. I also work with brilliant people who can also spell. They are truly blessed.

I've met many a person who is glib with words but not very intelligent when it comes to abstract thinking ability or making wise choices. Absent Barry's transcripts, LSAT score, and other objective measures of abstract thinking ability, combined with his poor decision-making, blame-shifting, and inability to talk off-the-cuff without a lot of stammering or resorting to hackneyed phrases, I easily conclude that he is at best of slightly higher than average IQ, but certainly no brilliant thinker or wise leader.

And there is no need to "connect any dots" for me regarding the abilities of people accepted into Ivy League schools. Unlike you, I'm not impressed with credentials alone. I went to graduate school at an elite school, and I saw first-hand how the Affirmative Action students were treated. Even back in the mid-1980s, they were coddled and given all kinds of breaks on test scores and final grades that the average white or Asian students were not. Obama was apparently a big Do-Nothing AA recruit at HLS, having produced not a single paper for publication. And the position of HLS President is an elected position, not one based on ability or grades. Until he produces his transcripts or LSAT score, whether at my home or via the media, I will continue to assume that he isn't all that intelligent but merely glib.

You say, "But don't EVER address the subject of Sarah Palin's intellectual capabilities in the same post in which you discuss Obama's." Who, exactly, are YOU to issue such threats? As long as there is a First Amendment, I can and will address Palin's intellectual capabilities in the same post in which I discuss Obama's. And his are seriously lacking.

You tell me: Is it acceptable for a mosque to be built at Ground Zero, or is it, as Palin stated, an unnecessary provocation? I happen to believe the latter, and I don't care how many typos are made in a Tweet to communicate that thought. I have yet to hear our Fearless Reader offer an opinion on this matter.

How about Palin's larger point? Do YOU think it is acceptable for a mosque to be built at Ground Zero, or do you believe, as she stated, that it is an unnecessary provocation? And do you think she has no right to state her opinion? What is Obama's position on this issue? Why has he not weighed in? Is it because he's simply too brilliant?

There is a difference between tolerance and surrender, and I don't care who says it or whether he / she commits 1000 typos or malapropisms while communicating that thought. You guys take your eyes off the ball and obsess over Palin at your own peril.

Joe Biden makes routine gaffes daily. From asking a wheelchair bound fellow to "stand up", to mispronouncing chief generals names in speeches, and talking about how FDR would "go on televison" (which was not available in those days, by the way).

From a vanity perspective, Bidens gets his teeth capped and hair plugs, Palin looks like she is now a 36 D.

The point is, they are human and are prone to err. Why do we give Biden a pass and Palin gets kicked in the stomach?

Politics. That's why. I say give them both a break.

at least she does NOT think that "J-O-B-S, JOBS" is a THREE-letter word as STUPID Joe Biden (the VPOTUS) does - he said that STUPIDITY five times in TWO speeches in two different states in 2008.

also, Sarah Palin can speak at least HALF-intelligently, when her teleprompter breaks down . - the same cannot be said of the FOOLISH, ARROGANT, SELF-important, SILLY, little weakling, who temporarily resides in the White House & thinks that he visited FIFTY SEVEN (57) states during the 2008 DIMocRAT primary campaign.

BHO is just PITIFUL & a NATIONAL DISGRACE to THINKING PEOPLE everywhere.- he has about TWO more years left in office.

Sarah long ago convinced most people, with the exception of the "teapartier types", that she is not qualified for public office.

Her use of a non-word is just a minor example of the fact that she is ill-prepared for the Presidency or any other high office.

Her presence on the ticket caused John McCain and many Republican congressional candidates to lose the election in 2008.

Personally as a life long Republican of 79 years, I believe the Republican Party can never win on a national level so long as she appears to be a leader of the party.

That’s the problem. She’s rallying people to fight against Gov. over reaching its boundaries and inflicting itself on us where it should not. This is not something that just goes away no matter how much you or the LIBS wish it to. She’s going to continue and the more the left whines the stronger she grows. What the majority of people will refute is THE DEM PARTY and their agenda the administration is trying to force onto America.

jato11; all,

well, all i can say is that right now we HAVE another "malevolent idiot" as POTUS following GWB.

fyi, i will never forget seeing Senator BHO, in person, in NH at a rally.
a little girl (probably about 11-12 years old) asked him, "Senator, what is your favorite movie?" - BHO was UNABLE to answer her question! instead, he stammared, stuttered, made SILLY/off-topic comments, thanked her for "coming to see me" & "looked like a deer in the headlights" BUT never gave her a movie TITLE. - that's when i figured out that he's nothing but "a good reader" of SCRIPTS & when/if he gets "off script", that he is UNABLE to say anything even HALF-intelligent. = BHO is a SELF-important, arrogant, DUNCE & nothing more than that.

in 2012, we TEA PARTIERS will help elect an INTELLIGENT leader to reside at the WH.- who he/she will be is just a guess at this early date, but BHO will be the EX-POTUS in about two years.
(right now, many TPP favor US Senator Jim Demint of SC, but that does NOT mean that he will be "our candidate". - fwiw, Sarah Palin will NOT even run, as she's GETTING RICH as an "entertainer" & "political pundit".)

John McCain used poor judgement in choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate.
McCain couldn't control his emotions when making a crucial decision concerning the V.P. nomination.
After being given a number of good V.P. candidates, -including the politically judicious female Gov. of Arizona- he decided instead to let his hormones run the show.
The Old Timer last hurrah for sexual appeal emerged from his long time hybernation.
From the first time he met her under a sycamore tree by a creek in his ranch of Arizona, -where he told her his decision- he'd have an instant crush on her, and she also made him feel young again.
But no matter, he preferred a political neophyte instead of more appealing and experienced candidates.
We know now that the formula of "Beauty and The Beast" lost in November of 2008.
With the illiteracy and the gaffes in their public speeches, and with their comic misbehaving, republican politicians are acting more like "The Three Stooges."

Normally I despise Palin with all my being but [and I can't believe I'm saying this] the English Language is elastic. Especially in our modern era we have been inventing and adding words to our dictionaries at a pretty good clip. But having said that I think Palin just did a portmanteau, blending repudiate with God knows what other word. While some of these words make it into the language [brunch, chortle] I don't have high hopes for Refudiate. Because let's face it, despite being right about English being a flexible language Palin is no Shakespeare.

Now Katie Curic needs to ask her what are her favorite Shakespeare plays, excluding "Romeo And Juliet."

Ms. Malaprop does not trouble herself with the conventional....unless, of course, she is paid a minimum of $75,000 to appear at one of those "conventions". She does not bother to peruse those liberal, elitist books like the Dictionary or the Thesaurus for fear of contamination of her innocent, pure mind. She doesn't read, period, for, even if lacking in formal education, reading instills a knowledge of word, language, content, and usage. Yes, Bush had his share of twisted words, but, he laughed at himself, too. He never tried to justify or explain it away, or blame the interpreter. And Palin is certainly no Shakespeare. The fiction and drama she perpetrates should be "refuted" and repudiated at every utterance. All of this said, she has still be deemed to pen opinions for the WP, so, maybe it is all the rest of us who are ignorant.
