Is the fighting Obama back?

For President Obama"s supporters, watching his speech at a Milwaukee labor rally on Monday was old-fashioned fun from a leader who hasn't given them all that much fun in a while. To draw enough Democratic-leaning voters back into the electorate to stave off disaster, he'll have to stay in fighting form for the next two months.

Even his most controversial line served a mobilizing purpose. "They talk about me like a dog," Obama said, chuckling about the Republicans. "That's not in my prepared remarks, but it’s true." The reminder of all furniture and false charges thrown Obama's way by the G.O.P. (and by the farther reaches of the right) was a call for the cavalry of his own supporters. It was a way of saying: Are you going to let them get away with this?

And yes, there was substance, too. Obama's proposal for an infrastructure bank to rebuild the country was good policy, and the only shame is that he didn't offer it earlier. Even in anti-government times, building projects is popular because skeptical voters can see and touch what government is actually creating.

Two new polls sketch the depth of the Democrats' problems, but also point to a way out.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that if November's elections were held today, 47 percent of voters would back Republican candidates in their districts and 45 percent would back Democrats. That's not good news for the president's party, but it's well within the capacity of a campaign to turn a two-point deficit into a two-point lead.

But among those most likely to vote, Republicans lead, 53 percent to 40 percent. Yes, Virginia, there is an "enthusiasm gap."

A Wall Street Journal-NBC News poll used a different question to reach a similar finding. The country split evenly, 43 percent to 43 percent, when asked if they wanted November's vote to produce a Republican or a Democratic Congress. But those most likely to vote gave the Republicans a 49 percent to 40 percent advantage.

The Journal story pointed to the small silver lining in these very gray clouds for the Dems: "There are enough pro-Democrat, pro-Obama voters available to help the party head off disaster – if they can be persuaded to show up and vote."

And that's why the fighting Obama can't disappear but has to keep shouting, joking, laughing – and making his case relentlessly. My hunch is that this Obama not only has a chance to turn a substantial share of his own supporters back on, but also appeal to some of the independents his party needs to woo back. Middle-of-the-road voters vastly prefer a battling, engaged president to a distant figure who doesn't swipe back, even when he's being treated like a dog.

EJ really has his head buried today. In a new poll even 33% of union households say they are voting Republican this year. Obama, who has never shown respect for the office of President demeaned it even more yesterday when he stated he was being treated like a dog. I was amazed that even Obama would say something like that. He preached bipartisanship during his campaign and has done nothing since but attack anyone that does not follow his line. Professor Obama needs to return to school where he can preach his scholastic theories as he completely lacks real world experience.

Finally! Someone who seems to get that if you are in a fight, you fight, you don't sit and let your opponents dictate the stage and the rules. Your pont is dead-on that he MUST be the scrappy, head-on, VISIBLE and AUDIBLE individual we elected. He must hammer the obstructionist role the opposite party is taking, attack head on the refusal to cooperate in any way, the focus on staying or getting in power as opposed to working for the American people. I am, for one, sick and tired of the blatant character of BOTH parties whose goals are those of POWER, not what they can do for the populace. Achieving power is a plutocratic, authoritarian concept; achieving positions here is supposed to be about getting there to reflect and address the needs of this nation. C'mon, President Obama, GET YOUR MESSAGE OUT THERE!!!!

The country despises Republicans, and is ready to be convinced to switch back to vote Democratic. All people need is some fighting spirit from President Obama and the rest of the Democratic leadership. Because if there is one thing we all know in our hearts, it is that the Republicans on the tickets in 2010 haven't got a clue about what to do.

I can understand the lack of enthusiasm that this election's democratic voters feel. That is often the case coming off a major electoral win. What I cannot understand is the dramatic shift of independents to the GOP. The independents seem to have lost all sense of proportion. They unreasonably expected Obama to clean up a massive dirt pile left by the Bush administration and the GOP. It is not as if Obama wasn't pretty straightforward that it was going to take a long time to dig out of this mess.

I just have to think that something else is at work here and it involves the muddleheaded thinking process of the independent mind in general. Indeed, I do not think these are independent voters at all. I think they are people who have no serious understanding of the complexities of the issues that our leaders in both parties face. The right wing is always going to be against any activist government involvement in any of our national problems. They just don't care because they are wedded to an obsolete governing ideology that is at odds with the workings of modern nation states.

But independents are worse than right wingers. They have no philosophy at all other than give me what I want, right now or I will vote you out of office. This sector of the voting electorate has grown in recent years and my theory is that they are the very type of people who are most averse to any change that affects them in even a modest way. The single biggest reason they are gravitating toward the GOP is that they hope the GOP will take us back to the excessive lifestyles they were accustomed to prior to the financial collapse in 2008.

They are likely to be bitterly disappointed when they find out that republicans have no better solutions to these complex problems than do the democrats.

More "authentic" shuck & jive from a Chicago community organizer?

A perfect example that what thrills hard-left Dems mortifies an America that has "seen what government can do".

Keep it up. See you in November.

Posted by: happyacres | September 7, 2010 9:28 AM | Report abuse

I honestly think that the biggest problem democrats have is the media and the polls. Most people wrongly assume that they are driving the polls and that polling is merely a reflection of how people actually feel. Wrong! Look. Anyone who has been involved in classroom surveys knows that the vast majority of students when asked a show of hands on a particular question will tentatively start to raise their hands as they look around. If they don't see a majority of raised hands they slowly bring their hands down.

Polls are nothing more than self fulfilling prophecies and have little or nothing to do with how people honestly feel. All one has to do is track the direction of these polls. I guarantee you that if suddenly the Washington Post began to show a turnaround, successive polls after that would begin to track in that same direction. It is the very same phenomenon one sees in the classroom. Everyone wants to be on the winning side.

My suggestion is that polls be regulated in such a way that they do not drive public opinion rather than the reverse. Polls used to be handled in a much more restrained fashion than today. Polls today have become so partisan that there really not all that reliable as anything other than a tool to manipulate people's opinions.

He should know , however, that his two historical hero's, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, were Republicans.

Happyacres, your "shuck and jive" rasp is revealing of your racist character. But, more importantly, your frothy reference to "Chicago community organizer" is the most telling indicator that you are a racist. Your notion of community organizing has to do with African -American activists organizing to promote better schools, better health care and more job opportunities for African-Americans. Quite obviously, you are opposed to those goals.

But, the reason you resort to such infantile phrases is because that is what you are herded into saying by talk radio hosts who know you are ignorant enough, racist enough and enough of a hateful, miserable bigot to be aroused by such hate talk to get you out to the polls.

In time, this asininity will pass and Americans will dispatch haters like you back to the outhouse pit your originated out of. But for now, Americans are just too angry themselves over the loss of jobs which is not Obama's fault but can be laid at the feet of decades of conservative fiscal policies of de-regulation and supply side tax policies that have ruined our economy.

EJ, there is something you libs need to learn. Windmilling your arms, flailing around in the dark is not fighting. The first is reactionary, defensive and actually a show of incompetence as there is no target or reason for the violence. The latter is preceise, corrdinated and for a specific purpose. Bill Clinton knew this and was good at it. Obama is not.

bimul83, you can take your semper fi and jam it up your 80 plus year old ars! This giant pile of manure that we have been wallowing in since 2008 was brought on by decades of right wing economic policies. You microbes may indeed take back the House and the Senate but sooner or later, the American people--the real American people who are out there sleeping right now because they don't think midterm elections matter--are going to wake up and see just what a bunch of whacked out nut jobs got elected while they snoozed.

This happens ever so often and generally when times are tough. But just as in 1994, it didn't take the public long to wake up and realized what had happened. That is why Newt Gingrich got a big smack down when he tried to do precisely what you wingnuts are trying to do this time around.

Not only that. There is a very good chance that most of the dweebs elected to the House this year will be booted out by 2012 or before. Why? Have you taken a look at some of the crooks that the Tea Party is supporting? Many of these people could not be elected as a toilet attendant in a normal year.

In the face of catastrophic challenges, Obama has been a very good chief executive in regard to foreign and domestic policy - basically center-left, regardless of all the ridiculous extremist caricatures. What I never expected was that he would be a horrible politician, completely misreading the potential (none) for bipartisanship, failing to achieve disciplined backing from centrist Democrats in the Senate, failing to effectively defend himself and his policies with the general public, and failing to keep his base energized. While for Bush-Cheney-Rove, it was all-politics all the time (dreadful), Obama has been almost apolitical, apparently presuming that if he does a competent job as CEO, the politics will somehow work out. The net effect is a likely disastrous mid-term election, and resurgent GOP attack and paralysis from a position of power for at least the next two years. It is depressing and the depression is evident in Obama voters, a large portion of whom won't get out of bed on election day.

While your characerisation may be true for some, it hardly represents quite a few others. Speaking for myself, I am independent and moderate. It is not because I am selfish or have no philsophy, far from it. The reality is that I don't think that either party has a monopoly on what is right and what is wrong. I will go a step further and say that it is not the independents who lack a philosophy, it is the parties themselves. Why else do the GOP reject in lockstep ideas that they themselves proposed only because Obama is now the one proposing it? Bob Dole once accused Clinton is 'stealing our ideas.' The GOP is the party who dramatically expanded Medicare, the program whose creation they bitterly opposed. The party of fiscal responsibility and pay as you go backed this unfunded mandate along with two wars which they didn't pay for. Neither of the parties are about philsophy unless you consider taking power a philosophy. I would turn your argument on it's head and say that those people who are died in the wool Dems or Reps are the ones without the philosophy. They are the ones who are more like to support an idea if their side likes it, hate it if the other party likes it. That doesn't sound very attractive to an independent thinker who judges the idea, not the party throwing it out there for discussion.

I've read hundreds of political articles in the last few months.. and this is the first "dog" reference. Obama has been called many distasteful things: Community Organizer, socialist, leftist, Muslim, liberation theology Christian, but referred to as a dog ?

Isn't this a form of race-baiting ? Will Black Americans now be incensed ? encouraged to vote against those racist bigoted GOPers ?

What ever happened to our Post-racial America ? our new unity ? or post-partisan President ?

Is all we have left... a failed one-term historic President known for his divisiveness ?

What a tragedy. I can only think of Macbeth.

The only example we really need is the relabeling of troops as "non combat", and calling it a withdrawal.

Or making health care "universal" instead of affordable. Is it really more accessible if it's making the middle class poorer? We've done NOTHING to make health care less expensive.

The only Obama there is: Politician Obama.

Look trk113, when you have a failure on such a massive scale as the Bush administration, and a failure in conservative ideology that led to the financial collapse and ensuing recession, and then you elect by decisive margins a democratic President because you wanted change, and then you don't even have the clear eyed understanding that not even two years into his first term, you are ready to turn your back on him and put back into office the very people who brought us this massive dung sandwich, then yes, I do have to question just how independent you really are or whether you are simply being unreasonable because he can't leap tall buildings in a single bound.

Independents who actually think that change could come about that quickly are in for bitter disappointments ahead because I guarantee you putting conservatives back into office ain't gonna get you there. They don't believe in any change other than a backward course toward what they have always been used to and that is continuing tax cuts for the top 5% until ultimately there is no more to cut and all taxes will be paid by the middle class, more de-regulation of the type that brought us this happy state of affairs and social policies that take us back to the Victorian Age.

The voting isn't over yet, but it sure doesn't look like the Dems will do well, no doubt. The dilemma for an independent is that you're right, the GOP is awful, but the Dems aren't showing me much of anything either. I sure don't want to reward the GOP for the Dems failures when the GOP caused most of the problems in the first place. On the other hand, how do I send a message to the Dems that they have handled things poorly. I agree with those hwo claim that Obama has not done things all that differently than has Bush rergarding the economy. The stimulus was poorly handled and we have much less to show for it than we should if they hadn't been so slow to recognize that the GOP had no interest at all in bipartisanship. All we really have to show for it is another trillion dollars in debt and a dramatically more polarized electorate. I would be happy to have an official policy that says you can choose to be left along provided that you do not avail yourself of any service of any kind that involves government or is payed for through taxation. That means freeway usage and US highways, sewage disposal, police and fire protection, etc, etc, etc.

In the oval office last week, he looked like a guy whose suit and desk were too big for him -- perhaps the job as well. Maybe he should go on another rock-star world tour to make his base feel better about him.

We seem to have elected a president weithout true leadership experience and ability. (oh well, better luck next time.)But, if he wants to truly lead this country (that is, all the country, not just the base), he's going to need more that a comfortable venue to make him seem effective.

Obama should fight back HARD, for THIS is all the GOP has to offer:

Republicans introduce “Kill the economy” plan

Congressional Republicans unveiled a plan on Monday that they said would hurt the nation’s economy, benefit the wealthy at the expense of the middle class and add billions to the national debt.

The move is a continuation of Republican policies during the Bush administration and part of a plan they hope will lead to rising voter dissatisfaction and Republican gains at the ballot box.

“Remember how we racked up huge deficits during the Bush years, gave billions to the wealthy and let the middle class fall behind? Well, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R- Ohio) said. “We’re going to drive those unemployment and deficit numbers up so high that the American people will be voting Republican until they realize we screwed them over once again.” (continued….)

Too often he sits and allows Republicans to frame the debate and blatantly lie about his policies and agenda. The Democrats have vision by lack the balls to push back. The American people need to know the truth in simple black and white terms.

Yet, anyone who is willing to return our Congress to the very people who ruined our economy and gave major tax cuts to the rich is either clueless or rich. Most Americans are not rich, so they must be clueless.

EJ,
I was thrilled to watch Obama's Milwaukee speech yesterday. It was a rousing call to action that is really needed by the Democrats this fall. I hope and pray that, as he continues his campaigning until election day, this speech will mark the beginning of a return to reality for the voters of this country.
As in most elections, turnout is key. If the analysis of who is a likely voter is incorrect, the Democrats can hold both houses. Message: VOTE!

Great point about not respecting the office and how yesterday was another example of it. He has made no effort to unify other than to say he is going to unify and then attack anyone on the other side of the aisle and anyone who does not agree. By the way, the infrastructure stimulus is a good policy? Was that not the plan in the original stimulus plan as well? Hate to tell but we still have major economic problems. No problem, just another 50 billion +.

Obama has not and will not do a thing to turn this country around. Just like most other politicians, he's only in it for the money. That's the whole idea behind contemporary Washington politics. Get elected or appointed, go to Washington and live happily ever after. It's hard to find politicians with any kind of acceptable moral standing. They're out there, but they're hard to find.

We don't need another election, we need a second revolution. Nothing Obama could promise us will fix the economy. Nothing the Republicans have ever done ever fixed the economy. It's up to us, the people, to stop being complacent and start raising hell. It's the only thing that will scare the bejesus out of our clueless leaders, doing the one thing they thought we'd never have the guts to do. We're not deaf and we're not blind, but it's time to stop being afraid too.

Poor Baracky, all his teleprompter will do these days is "whine": "Mommy, you and Daddy taught me that a 100% re-distribution of the wealth would make me a hero to the proletariat; but, the nasty members of Congress are refusing to submit to any more of my budget busting agenda, and even refer to me as a dawg; do you think they just don't like the dawg food that I've been feeding them Mommie; the American people no longer respond to my Slickster readings; and, although I've taken a lot of time for golf and Michelle relishes the extravagance of White House galas and sojourns on AF #1, my poll #s are tanking, jeopardizing our tenure in the WH and Michelle may again have to stop being proud of her country; and, even my former European Socialist friends make fun of me behind my back, and won't join with me in bankrupting our respective countries. What's a poor Marxist to do? Is that what drove Daddy to becoming a raving alcoholic? Saul Alinsky told me that it was not supposed to be this way. Mommy, you know that I could never get a real job in the private sector. I need you to channel some answers to me Mommy." Greg Neubeck

Can't you figure out that the upcoming election isn't about party loyalty? The reason the Dem's are in dire straits right now in the polls is because an increasing number of Americans do not like the way they are governing (Healthcare Deform, Stimu-not, attempts at Cap and Trade, etc. [Sorry, I couldn't resist]). Voters are energized to counter-balance the President's policies with some opposition.

If you notice, the Republicans as a brand aren't polling well either. They have even lower positive marks then the Democrat party as a brand.

For better or worse, the U.S. is primarily a two party system. Now if you are a voter and you don't like the policies and direction of the current leadership (Pres. Obama and Democrat-led House and Senate) the only ones left to vote for the Republicans. The Republicans aren't gaining ground because their GOP, they are gaining ground because voters don't have anywhere else they can turn to in order to change course. These voters may have to hold their nose while pulling the lever, but they'd rather vote Republican again rather than to continue to allow Obama and the Democrats unchallenged power to continue the way they are going.

He has never understood the Republicans are at war with him and intend to win...it seems they are going to win.

Maybe being raised by his grandparents made him too nice. He was not elected to be nice, he was elected to win and produce results. He has certainly done some of that, but he seems to have no guts for a real fight.

Is someone talking about Mr. Obama as a dog would? Barking, whining, etc.? Or his is meaning that when some people talk about him, their comments refer to him as one would a dog? If the latter, just whose comments are we talking about?

The only "dog reference" I can recall with regard to Mr. Obama was his own, referring to himself as a "mutt," in terms of ethnic makeup.

It's no wonder he rarely strays from "prepared remarks." When he does, the remarks don't make much sense.

Obama is going to raise taxes on all American's. Obama has divided this country for the November elections. Obama has accused the American people of abusing the civil rights of the immigrants. Ironically, as "pundits" like Dionne mangle polling results to try and paint a rosy picture, he confuses liberal politicians and their base (both of whom still think the mainstream media feeds them the truth).

Unfortunately on November 3, Liberals will be left licking their wounds, confused but still content in their knowledge that although Americans still love their Liberal agenda, middle class Americans were "tricked" by evil Republicans who secretly want nothing more than to strengthen American business and those who invest in this country...the horrors!

Promises vs. (reality):

1. A new age of moderate bipartisan politics (laughable).

2. Complete legislative transparency so the public could see what was being proposed BEFORE it was passed (worst ever - THEY didn't even know what was in the multi-thousand page monsters that they passed, and still don't).

3. Lobbyists OUT of the White House (it's crawling with them).

4. Line by line removal of pork barrel spending with threat of veto (the most porked up "stimulus" in the history of American politics).

5. No mandatory individual healthcare tax (drubbed Hillary with this one and then changed his mind and broke his word after elected).

The stimulus plan for infrastructure is a rehash from the first stimulus. It didn't work then, less than a third of the original stimulus for shovel ready projects has been spent, and it won't work now. What the Dems don't understand is that the environmental and safety legislation they have created has morphed into a bureacratic nightmare. it takes years to navigate the permitting process for major projects like roads and bridges. In the 1940's it took us a little of two years to build the Penatagon. That same project would take 7-10 years today. Also today any Federally supported construction- thanks to the depression era Davis Bacon Act- must pay union wages. The Dems and central planning = a job killing machine.

The notion that independent voters are worse than "right-wingers" is remarkably stupid.

Voters in general are not well-informed. After all, look at the people in Congress from either party who shouldn't be there.

Independents are unhappy with Obama for many reasons, including reasons mentioned in Left-wing newspapers, such as the Wash. Post and the N.Y. Times.

For one thing, the constant blame of Republicans for the economic mess distorts reality.

Democratic-controlled Congresses in Bush's last years approved excessive spending including money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan

Bush should have vetoed some of this legislation, but he signed all of it.

So, yes, Bush was a big spender - and Democrats in Congress provided the money.

I don't think if the Republicans winning the House is a new wave. It is a temper tantrum. They lost the 2008 election plus the economy didn't turn around like everybody thought it would. It is not a "change" election when only 40% of the voters vote and with over 80% of the voters being white and mostly over 45 years old. Here is the thing: a blow election maybe good for Obama and the Democrats because it allows them to regroup

-----------------------------
This could have been ambiguous.

Do we have a project FOR actually Building something?

Or are we merely building a project?

I.e., indulging in an armchair exercise?

The "is" indicates the second meaning, probably not what Dionne intended...

It is like Noam Chomsky's example, "Flying planes can be dangerous."

But the author of Syntactic Structures (among his other claims to fame) did not allow himself to be tripped up by a confusion between "is" and "are". Both of his two meanings are grammatical. Whereas Dionne seems to have made a simple mistake in grammar.

And, Chomsky wrote his sentence decades before two flying planes slammed into the World Trade Center.

He took it like a man, with dignity, and continues to do so today.
This is the difference between a man and a spoiled, whiny child.

Boy did the Corporate Media swing and miss when they were congratulating the country for entering into a post-racial America. Posts like this show that, unfortunately, racism is alive and well in America.

When the President had to take a jack-hammer to the wall of obstructionism to get any reforms accomplished, to address any of the problems that eight years of ignorance and deceit left us, he was working overtime. People who are working are not on welfare, even if that is your misguided image of African Americans.

WaPo's kool-aid-guzzler-in-chief spins another yarn chock full of wishful thinking and excuses for the failures of our over-worked and under-appreciated poodle-in-chief. Neither will ever seem to realize that socialist policies and class warfare are not the stuff of leadership, but rather the last desperate attempts to keep the progressive dream alive. Thank goodness the American people are finally waking up and will be sending a message, loud and clear, to these career political hacks, their cronies as well as the lapdog media.

Frustration with the Democrats is understandable. Voting for a party with no agenda and no principles isn't.

The Republican Party has contracted out responsibility for its vision to the likes of Limbaugh, Beck, and Palin and time after time reminds us that when an election can't be won ethically, the unethical route is fine. Today's entry in the "Say Yes to Sleaze" sweepstakes:

Hey democrat pendejo, this registered democratic American is enjoying the B slapping you are taking. In fact I am looking forward to the pounding you treasonous lying louts are going to take in Nov and every election that follows.

The fact that more Americans are becoming informed as the democrat scumbags continue to expose themselves and get exposed by AMERICANS like myself not ashamed to admit having blindly and ignorantly voted straight democratic for 16 years. Having never called myself a democrat it took less than 16 minutes to end 16 years of irresponsible voting.

Listening to the grotesque minority democrats attacks and lies against President Bush as they fiend for power, drooling like crackheads, babbling like idiots was the most disgusting democrat wanton lust for what they can never win on merit or honesty. Democrats can no longer disguise who they are and watching them covet George W Bush's Presidency is a display no one should ever forget.

Just recall the bug eyed screams of Pelosi ..... He's OBLIVIOUS! OBLIVIOUS! OBLIVIOUS!

The drunkard ...QUAGMIRE! QUAGMIRE!

And never forget democrats causing the needless deaths of American Soldiers as they emboldened the enemy and aired for our enemies how to best kill Americans now and in the future and how to use our own laws and Constitution against us. Thanks to sick and evil democrats whose only goal mirrored that of our enemies, defeat Bush by securing defeat.

His charm and spell creation has gotten lost in the teleprompters. No more magic lies and deception, especially the independent have realized they were taken by a great used car salesman. After November he and Michelle can be on a continual vacation in the last two years of his lame duck term. He would do the country a great favor by resigning, but then we would get an even greater fool with Biden. Zero is deceptive, Biden is just stupid.

The blasting from the left is necessary to remind Obama what his supporters expected from him. Anybody on the left, however, that sits on his/her hands coming next November will have nobody to blame but themselves for two years of stasis and decline.

Obama's Gen. David Petraeus has released the results of special operations missions - 235 militant leaders were killed or captured in the last 90 days, another 1,066 rank-and-file insurgents killed and 1,673 detained - to demonstrate the Taliban and their allies are also suffering losses as NATO casualties rise.

Petraeus told reporters traveling Friday with the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen, that in the past 24 hours, special operations forces carried out eight missions, capturing three targeted individuals. Four more were believed killed or detained, Petraeus said.

Accentuating the positive is part of Petraeus' media style, developed when he commanded U.S. forces in Iraq and was widely credited with helping turn the tide in that war.

Those skills are part of what the White House knew it needed when President Barack Obama selected the four-star general in July to replace Gen. Stanley McChrystal, after remarks critical of the administration appeared in Rolling Stone magazine. Just like Vietnam - give us body counts.

Barack the community organizer was nothing more than a lobbyist, trying to get the government to bestow on his community that which they cannot achieve themselves. It is the ultimate special interest group looking for a handout.

For jaxas70, his community organizing may have seemed like "organizing to promote better schools, better health care and more job opportunities for African-Americans" but that's not what it was. It was a money grab for the EXTRA services such communities need because their schools stink -- primarily because there is woefully insufficient parental interest and responsibility for what their children are doing there. The jobs they need are hard to come by because their neighborhood is poor, dangerous and woefully lacking in people who are qualified to hold a job. Health care typically goes with gainful employment.

So Obama stumps for a handout, despite the fact that 40 years of handouts have left those communities in worse shape than they were ever in.

The independents who are coming to their senses as they abandon Obama temporarily joined the "progressives". This pejorative term is a marketing ploy by wild-eyed liberals who want increasing givernment control over everyone's life.

Eejit Dionne and Jaxas70 (a sublime name if ever I heard one) deserve each other. What did the resr of the country to desreve them?

Or has he rather been quick to placate our enemies and insert himself into domestic issues to please his financial supporters? Where was the fight when he was smiling and taking a book from Chavez? Where was the fight when Iranian protesters were being beaten, raped, and killed? Where was it?

It's easy to be bold in front of a crowd of admirers, but in the real world, courage demands boldness in front of those who want to see all that you value and cherish destroyed.

to all "progressives"; LIBs; DIMocRATS,

don't worry.

in less than 2 months the DIMocRATS in BOTH houses will be in the MINORITY, as it appears that they will lose about 60 seats in the HoR & 11 seats in the Senate. furthermore, there is NOTHING that you can SAY/DO to change the outcome. - you're THROUGH, DONE & FINISHED.

instead of trying to think of something to post in response to these comments, start polishing your resume, pack to move out of DC and ponder the FACT that you elitists/party pros/leftists have done this to yourselves. = 11/02/10 will be the biggest BLOODBATH in modern political history & the DIMocRAT party and BHO will soon be IRRELEVANT.
(otoh, this election will not be as big a trainwreck for your party as election day of 2012 will be, as then your party will ALSO lose the WH by a HUGE landslide, perhaps even worse than Reagan's landslide.)

HOW can i say that? = the answer is that the DIMocRAT Party is now LOSING large numbers of union "rank & file" & "moderate to conservative" party members all over the USA, permanently.
(those union "losses" include at least FIVE members of the OCAWU & two "skilled craft unions" from MY family. - they are now ACTIVE members of our county TPP.)

absent STRONG union support in money/time/ votes at the grassroots, hardly any districts which have a considerable percentage of union members, are even competitive for "the donkeys".
(the former union members in my family are NOW members of the TEA PARTY & they will NOT be voting for the DIMs again.- full disclosure: two of those former union activists helped write these comments.)

in case you don't know WHY this mass desertion of The Party of Jefferson is happening, consider:
1. BHO/WH staff condesends to, makes sport of & "looks DOWN upon" the "workers" as inferior/unsophisticated/ignorant/stupid,
2. the DIMocRAT congressional "leadership" thinks that we ordinary working "people from flyover country" are UNimportant & laughable,
3. the "party leaders" also think that we are such FOOLS, RUBES & HAYSEEDS that we don't fully understand that "the elites" think that we are "beneath their notice" & our opinions/beliefs are NOT even worth considering
and
4. the DIMocRAT elites contempt for our patriotism, churches, religious faith, traditional values & support of the Second Amendment is OBVIOUS.

so we have LEFT The Party of FDR, Patman, Nunn, Truman & JFK and will remain Independents & TEA PARTY members. =====> Oh, btw, we'll be sure to wave "BYE, BYE" to you, on the way OUT the door.- it's only polite to say, "GOODBYE".

just my opinion.

President Obama, just pretends to be a President working for the people , how much evidence do we need to see to catch on?

In reality, President Obama was brought into power via the back door, as you are soon to see as Pelosi and Biden are both well aware of as we was manipulated in by the Global Elite and he is their instrument for the purpose of giving Rothschild and Rockefeller and their minnions, the inroad to control over America in order to set up a "North American Union", under NAFTA!
